Just like Omega >> Breitling every day of the week, Toyota >> Honda every day of the week, and doubly so on weekdays.

Comparing Swatch Group ownership to Partners Group ownership is insane, one is a watch company from day one, with serious watchmaking staff throughout every company under its umbrella, and one is an investment firm that just...bought a hygiene paper product company, sold a cloud software company, bought an energy infrastructure inspection company, sold part of a wind farm, and bought a biogas platform.

Way to do your research 👍👍. Both are mid-tier, mass-produced watches. And Swatch has fucked every company it's gotten its greedy hands on. Same with Richemont. Independents is where it's at.

Like arguing with my brothers kids or something...

I’ve never had an Omega but during my 30’s I had to have a big gangster Breatling Bentley. It’s the only watch I’ve ever owned that I had to send back in for repairs (not maintenance) several times.  Will never buy one again and I never wear it.  Not sure why I still let it take up space in the spinner rather than just dumping it because it’s not going to appreciate.

Breitling has a shitty history of using multiple suppliers for its movements. However, about a decade ago, they built a really solid chronograph movement, B01 that's one of the most robust in the business. It's what's powering all of their modern chronographs.

Coaxial escapment, Master chronometer cert, COSC cert, better resale, James Bond, Olympics, Buzz Aldrin, Suspicious.

Honestly, Omega and Breitling reside in the same mid-tier category among watch enthusiasts. Both are now in the hands of holding companies, Omega with Swatch Group and Breitling with some investment firm. Resale for both is atrocious, Omega slapped everything except their moon watch with "sea master" and with the exception of some re-editions and Breiling Premiers, Breitling's Navitimers can be pretty garish. I'd stack the b01 movement up against an Omega chronograph movement. Both Omega and Breitling have COSC certifications, Rolex was the original James Bond watch anyway, and the first watch in space was actually Scott Carpenter's Breitling Cosmonaute.

Arguing over which is better is like arguing Toyota versus Honda.

SIAP but Daniel Defense now has the H9.  https://danieldefense.com/daniel-h9.html

Low bore axis, trigger, and feel of a 1911 in a striker fire is the goal.

It's DD's remake of the Hudson H9.  I have two of the Hudsons in my safe - never been fired.

Interested to see the reviews of the DD version.  Hudson was certainly on to something before the went poof.

Hopefully DD has their version nailed.  Would be a great compromise for those who love shooting the 1911 but want the simplicity of SF.

Edit: I'm so regarded (and trying to type up a proposal, deal with a conference call, and peruse Surly all at the same time)... You answered my question in the first sentence... my bad.

    ---------

This looks a lot like the now defunct Hudson 9... Did Daniel Defense buy the designs from them?

Hudson H9 Low-Bore-Axis Striker-Fired High-Capacity 9mm Combat/Tactical Pistol: Taking the 1911 Pistol Right into the 21st Century! – DefenseReview.com (DR): An online tactical technology and military defense technology magazine with particular focus on the latest and greatest tactical firearms news (tactical gun news), tactical gear news and tactical shooting news.

  5. The other option is an auction house. I've seen folks do really well there. You might call around and see if any would be interested in listing your piece.

So at the risk of violating protocol, I have a Sinn I’m looking to sell.  What are my options if I don’t have any rep on Reddit or watchuseek?

I’d appreciate thoughts, can take things dm, etc, given I haven’t posted on this thread in a while.

Try chrono24 and ebay. If you want to be screwed by a gray market dealer and you're in Austin, Bernard Watches might buy it off you.

Was at Russell Korman yesterday getting a link taken out and BS a little with the sales lady.  The Rolex watches they have on display are not theirs.  They are rep watches from Rolex so customers can see different models.  They change them out frequently.  They do not have any in stock that you can purchase.  You get on a waiting list and pay retail whenever that comes in.  My 118 series day/date is trading at $34,600.  Plain rose gold/stainless date is $15,000.  Platinum chronograph $77,500.  They are waiting for their first shipment of preowned and reconditioned Rolex watches.  Told me Rolex is getting into this space in a big way and expects to dominate the resale game.

The "waiting list" is basically a piece of paper that they use to take your name and number saying they'll add you to their electronic list but instead toss in the trash when you leave...

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is partnering with Texas A&M University’s Corps of Cadets to give military service academy applicants an alternative path for admission into the Corps.

Under the new partnership, those who apply for admission into a service academy through Cruz’s office can now have his office share their information with Corps officials at A&M as an alternative way to pursue a military career. Cruz said Thursday his office receives hundreds of applications each year from Texas students who seek an appointment to attend one of the nation’s military service academies, but nominations are not given to every eligible applicant.

“I am proud to play a role in opening a fantastic avenue to the many bright, ambitious young students with the courage and drive to serve our nation,” Cruz said in a statement. “This program has a storied history and proven track record of producing skilled, qualified service members. Joining the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets is an incredible opportunity, and I am excited that we are going to provide it to so many fine young men and women from the Lone Star State.”

Sooo, if you can’t into one of the military service academies, you can get in the aggy corps.  Great backup plan.  They’ll take anyone.

What's funny here is that Aggy will actually be excited about this... when in fact it's just Ted Cruz using their ego to solve his problem... Lol...

I carry a SAA replica in .357 with a three inch barrel and a bird's head grip. It conceals well enough under a long shirt, and points more naturally than any auto I have.

I carry a 460 S&W up in Alaska, but that’s open for bear protection. I find them annoying for concealed when there’s always an easier to conceal and reload semi auto option.  You’re definitely not going to find an auto throwing out this kind of knock down power.

I need an excuse to get a big boy revolver... how often do you go to Alaska?

Thoughts on using expanded steel or metal roofing for the shoring? Or should I stick to 2x nominal treated lumber?

I mean…as a lifelong gun owner and shooter who would like to see the tradition of American gun ownership continue, I can tell you that our best bet for growth of that culture is to BROADEN it, not narrow it. The more American gun culture becomes defined by the tacticool “I have 5 ARs and all kinds of superfluous ‘combat’ gear” crowd, the less the broad population will be interested, much less supportive.
30+ years ago, I got a bunch of guys interested in guns, including buying their own first gun, because they saw several of us going skeet shooting and dove hunting and having a good time, so they wanted to try it out.
TLDR: the group of “American gun owners” used to include a large portion of hunters and recreational shooters of hunting weapons, and a very small number of combat cosplayers. Now that is flipped on its head, and that’s bad news if you want firearms and gun ownership to be part of the mainstream instead of a fringe thing ripe for marginalization.

Then I think it becomes incumbent upon those, like you, to help counter the marginalization of gun owners, regardless of how they choose to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

I'd also say, that the popularity of AR-styled rifles increased in response to threats against them.  If certain legislators stopped telling people they plan to ban certain guns, people won't stockpile them thinking that we're entering a dangerous phase of American history...

Again, for those who vote for those same legislators, I think it's important that they voice their support for gun ownership so that their representatives understand their constituents aren't one-sided on this issue.

This is my issue with the current trend of Madden-type offensive minds and I believe overreliance on scheme and “neat-o” plays. The belief in the whiteboard over the actual field of play. I believe at its root football is about imposition of will on the team and individual across from you. It can come from better stamina in the fourth quarter, executional excellence, scheme, or coaching or lots of other things.

Maybe this is from my football days playing single wing ball and watching Texas destroy folks running basically a set of 3 or 4 plays out of the Wishbone. There was no scripting. It was pure power football. We’re going to run Steve Worster straight up your ass over and over until you stop it. Nothing fancy but executional excellence combined with an ingenious concept. A lot of the folks calling plays today don’t test this part of the game anymore.

This past weekend was full of this. Mike McCarthy with endgame playcalling so brain dead it nearly costs a game. Texas failing to use the run to neutralize Penix, Bama simply bamboozled into dumb plays thru a game to lose. Several instances of prevent defenses used to basically lose games. The explanations for these overcoaching decisions usually are shaken off with coaching gobbledygook.

I think the fact that we went down early and were playing catchup all first half, only for Washington to effectively stay on offense the entire 3rd quarter, meant that we didn't get a chance to fully deploy the run game. Had we scored first and held Washington, I think you would have seen more of it.

  17. I was about to recommend a 30-06 (what I've always used outside the hill country) and it's always worked a charm. But I didn't want to be accused of being old and uncool. :)

Anybody here have opinions about Blackjack gunsmithing or somebody else you like and have had good experience with here in Austin? Somebody gave me a Tec-9 that had been in its case in the back of a closet since 1992 that looks to be in good working order but should disassembled, cleaned, inspected and test fired by someone other than me.

Also came with a the optional barrel extender and two Intratec 32 round magazines, one of which was full of 30 year old bullets, and had one in the chamber when it was given to me.
And that's why we ALWAYS check first, kids.

Let me know if you do go and what your thoughts are.
