  1. While they making changes they really could use some tater tots. Not a huge fan of their fries, but dang you got the fryers warmed up lets toss some tater tots in there.
  2. Whataburger pancakes are no joke. They are solid. Also you ever eat a piece of Whataburger sausage and compare it to McDonalds? I think McDonalds sausage could double as their hamburger meat, no flavor.
  3. Agreed very well run events.
  4. His potato salad always looks so good to me.
  5. Looks like tickets still available to this if anyone is interested in going. Music and BBQ. Pretty good lineup of joints and musically if you are into that kind of thing. It's in Georgetown on Saturday June 4th. https://www.troubadourfestival.com/?ck_sni
  6. Every time I'm in Marshall I eat here. Their dirty rice is fantastic. I get the Breaux Bridge Classic https://www.cajuntx.com/menu/#entrees
  7. That looks good but I don't know if I see $25 there. Compared to other restaurants and what you can get for $25 price point.
  8. Yeah, was thinking about using it on steaks right now for perfect temp
  9. Any of you guys have any experience with these? Reviews are good it seems. https://store-us.meater.com/products/meater-plus
  10. Headed to Sundbird in Longview on Saturday. Great stuff.
  11. Well that sucks. You don't lose that many people and have me believe this was all part of the plan. That joint may be looked at as toxic moving forward.
  12. Ribs, Chicken (Half birds), sausage and bologna (Okie) on the smoker. Made some homemade pickles and pickeled some onion (first time doing those) and making up some pimento cheese and some spicy saltines for appetizer. Sides are someone elses problem.
  13. JBarM only been open a little while, someone probably been looking at the financials and decided they could double profits being open at dinner as well; with little thought to how that impacts everything else.
  14. Man those spiral sliced hams this time of year for like $1 are a steal. I love a smoke ham. Just use some coca cole or dr pepper as a glaze on it. Super easy and break it down and freeze leftovers.
  15. I struggle for things to eat at breakfast. I can only eat so many eggs and sometimes eggs, sausage, bacon don't leave me feeling good starting the day. Thought about just trying to skp breakfast all together but that's hard some days.
  16. Anyone ever eat at either of the Tipico's locations? One by Love Field kind and other in Carrollton. It's some messy cheap but good mexican food.
  17. Family traditionally comes in the Saturday of Easter for a big meal. I usually smoke bbq, brisket, ribs etc. Thinking about skipping the brisket this year though. Too dang expensive and takes forever and just rolling ribs, sausage, jalapeno poppers, chicken, etc. Not sure the pork butts and brisket are worth the time they take to cook sometimes.
  18. They used Mesquite at Bodacious on Mobberly predominantly and was never a problem.
  19. https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/tyson-foods-beats-revenue-estimates-higher-meat-prices-2022-02-07/ It's been blamed on everything from rising corn prices to labor shortage but in the end it's the simple fact they can charge more and are doing so.
  20. I been feeling like prices going up but every morning when they open up the door if there is a line they know they can continue to raise prices. Until they open the door and there isn't a line the price can stand to increase. I don't have a huge problem with the big increase in brisket prices we have seen but damn when I go to the grocery store and pork is still cheap and you're selling pulled pork for $20+ a pound I got to wonder if it's truly the pandemic causing all of this.
  21. Where are you with bbq prices? I feel like more and more (over the last two years) they have really gotten where I can't afford to go out and eat it at several locations. I had a friend at Hutchins in McKinney the other day and asked for prices.... Brisket...$31 Beef Rib...$31 Pork Ribs...$24 Sausage....$24 Turkey....$24 Chicken...$20 Pulled Pork...$24 Does this stuff get to a point that you can't afford it any more or you definitely get more selective on how many times you will go out to eat? My friend and his family (5) went and it was $160. Another friend and his wife went and it was $80. Think of the ribs that would mean a rack of ribs (3lbs) would cost you $75. I assume as long as there are lines restaurants aren't too worried about the prices because folks are lined up, just wonder if there is a tipping point to the bbq craze? If lunch is going to cost $25 and up then you can get a steak and two sides at Texas Roadhouse for the same price in comparison.
  22. Met and ate at Johns places on several occassions. Any time I would head down to Austin I would make sure I ate there. First time was when he had just started his own trailer and was over on the west side of town which evenutally turned into the original LA BBQ it was John and John Lewis working then I believe. I can still remember my first time and how the smoke hung in the air on a cool Saturday. The food was incredible. Then he made his way over to East Austin and had his smoker and trailer set up. I walked in wearing a Lockhart BBQ shirt and he called me out for wearing another BBQ joints shirt to his place and told me I shouldn't have done that. I order my food sit down and start eating, he waits a while and comes over to my table and sits down and ask me how the food is (It was damn good and I told him so) he laid a shirt down on the table and said "here is a better looking shirt for you to wear next time, and don't tell anyone I gave it to you because I'm supposed to be an asshole". One of the best moments of my going to BBQ joints I've ever had. I went back to that same location a few more times and each time there was something off or missing and you could tell that business wasn't long for being around. I think I have watched every youtube video of John Mueller stuff I can find. I have always been fascinated with the man. We would tweet and DM back and forth and he would always tell me he appreciated me being a teacher. Just a good good dude to me on the occassions we interacted. I saw him in November at BBQ Festival and he looked frail. I will remember the man the myth and the legend that was John Mueller. He would tell you he was a cook, damn sure not a pitmaster. Rest in Peace John Mueller.
  23. These are my boys... Daniel Vaughn new article on Sunbird BBQ in Longview.
  24. It's been that way since they were featured on a Netflix show a few years ago.
  25. Stop at Stiles Switch. Solid.
