8 minutes ago, Irwin F Fletcher said:The democrat's strategy should be as follows. The Judiciary Committee should hold hearings on the Mueller Report. Have Mueller testify before the committee, request others to testify. Those that don't should be held in contempt of Congress (not sure what legal ramifications that holds), and/or go to court to make them testify. It all needs to be documented for the American public. It is Congress' job and not doing so will only weaken the nation. Edited to add, if there is evidence to move to impeachment in the House then do so.
Moving forward with this strategy will drive Trump crazy. We've already seen his Twitter responses from when the Mueller report was released. It has him rattled. The Democrats can keep him in this state by doing their job. On the same front, they should continue to pursue his tax records, they have the authority to do so. At some point Trump is going to step further over the line and the shit will really hit the fan.
Congress. Do. Your. Job.
Fuck the Courts.
Open impeachment hearings. Call Mueller. Call Cohen (whose testimony provides separate bases for impeachment).
Then subpoena Barr. If he refuses to testify at an impeachment hearing, then impeach him for obstructing Congress from carrying out its constitutional obligation.
Then call Mnuchin about the tax returns. If he refuses to do the same, then impeach him, too.
Then impeach Trump, adding an additional article for obstructing Congress's constitutional oversight duties.
If the Senate Republicans vote to acquit, then fine--it's a vote to dissolve the United States Congress as a legitimate body. Let the judgment of history be on them.
eta: and by the way--if you do this, you tie up the Senate with trials and impair its ability to confirm Trump's various appointees.

Is it? Or do they want the Dems to impeach so they can fundraise and campaign on it and get Trump a second term?
I think there's a lot of that. But I think they've miscalculated.
Everyone is extrapolating consequences of a impeachment-without-conviction from a sample size of 1. That's not a very sound way to predict future events.
Pelosi and the Democrats act like not impeaching is the safe play. It isn't. It holds its own risks. It may be damaging to Democratic prospects to forego impeachment than to impeach. If Democrats don't impeach, then their base may be dispirited and disguised with the gutlessness of the Democratic Party, say "what's the point," and stay at home.
The fact is that we don't know what is "good politics" in this situation, because we've never seen it before. We're all just speculating. And in a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine scenario, it's best to default to the what's-the-right-thing-to-do position.

My boss is from West Texas but spent many years in St Louis for work. He's a Blues fan -- and a Stars fan. Was asking him about Jordan Binnington yesterday. Sounds like he literally came out of nowhere as the Blues went on their run. Is it because of him? Did he go along for the ride? I don't know the answer to that but he had one NHL appearance before this season. I do know, however, that Binnington is an amazing 24-5-1 as a starter. The Stars accounted for two of his losses and were 2-1 against him this season. Also, his numbers were down considerably from the regular season to the first-round series against Winnipeg. I didn't watch much of that series at all but if we lose to STL this round, I don't think it's because of Binnington standing on his head or anything.
I didn't watch a lot of that series, but I saw enough to form an opinion about Winnipeg. It seemed to me that they entered the playoffs looking lousy over the past three weeks, and they maintained that form for another six games.
That's not to say that the Blues didn't earn it. They entered the playoffs in good form and looked good. I'm just exceedingly skeptical of Winnipeg.

Goddamn what a game. Bishop was incredible throughout.
If he keeps playing like that, we’ve got a real chance against the Blues.

Yeah yeah yeah
We need to win game 6. I don’t want to go to game 7. So good job. Now we can win this series. But it’s not a given.

Happy news on this Friday--Kate Smith was a huge fucking racist. And that means that we don't need to hear her awful warbling rendition of "God Bless America" every night during the seventh-inning stretch at Yankee Stadium.
Now if we can just eliminate the song altogether, we'll be set.

I'm certain I was at the game, and I vaguely remember it. It was definitely a walk-off win for the Longhorns, and I recall it being some quirky play (maybe the runner scoring from second on a wild pitch or some damned thing). I'm reasonably sure Spike Owen scored the game-winning run.

This is unbelievable.
It'll be really funny if the rest of the match is a defensive stand-off.

That's what it looked like. I'm guessing the spire coming down punched out one of the stone arches.
The one on the right.
Ok--I got to tell you--that looks a lot better than I would have expected. That there are still substantial parts of the barrel vault still intact is really very promising.

So by next week the French government will be setting up a national subscription soliciting contributions. I would expect that they'll get a fair amount that way, both domestically and from overseas.

Yup...tower is involved now. Wow...
I don't think either tower aflame. There appear to be firefighters shooting water out of the right tower into the nave. I don't think they'd be doing that if either tower were on fire (and I don't think you've have firefighters up there at all if there was imminent danger that they'd go up).

I'm glad my kids got to see it when we went to Paris last fall. I'm sure they'll rebuild, but it'll probably take 30 years for the reconstruction. Maybe they'll be able to take their kids to see the rebuilt cathedral; I suspect I never will.

Lol Lightning should be ashamed
Their defense and goalkeeping have deserted them.
But they're also having trouble scoring, so that seems problematic, too.
-
Now let’s get some second-period goals.

The lightning seem like 2000s Ottawa. Dominate the regular season, fold in the playoffs.
Down 3-0 now in the 2nd.
What year was it that the Mariners won 122 games in the regular season, only to lose in the ALDS? Yeah--feels like that.

I'm sorry, but is that supposed to be some sort of threat? We need more people to do all the jobs we have here in Austin. You want to release people here to work and help our economy? Uh . . . thank you?

How far is Nashville going to get with the worst power play in the league?

Another good reason to open impeachment proceedings--the pardon power can't be used "in cases of impeachment."
