  1. in this depressing world, you can always use a laugh.  Here, we learned that the west will find out that Russia has the best military armaments in the world, weapons that are extremely powerful that the west doesn’t even know exist yet.  And while Russia used to have quantity of items, now Russia has the best quality of weapons.

He announced that NATO has a plan to attack Russia in five years.   But if we do, I can only assume that there will be more tactical golf carts facing the Polish armored columns than we could’ve dreamed.

What I get out of that is that Putin is preparing his country for the long-term war economy, and letting his fellow country even know that there will be an economic depression while Russia prepares to defend itself in five years.  Trying to prevent blowback from continuing its current policy of transforming Russia into a war economy, with all of the deprivations that will entail for the serfs?

I guess telling Ivan that he will be attacked in five years is the spoonful of sugar that helps the rotten potato go down for the next several years.

Suddenly, tens of thousands of drones that are sitting offshore in container ships and/or transported into the US suddenly strike our electrical grids, military installations, the Houston fuel reserves, nuclear plants, etc, across the US, plunging the country into utter chaos.

Like our robust electrical grids could go down so easily….

Very true. Plus, no radios in their tanks. They used signal flags, lol. I think the WWI traumatized the French so hard that they didn't have the stomach for WW2.

Well, who needs radios when you have élan!

He doesn’t have that many options left - this latest hit on Kyiv was probably it.  They are constrained by missile and drone production or acquisition.

man, I hope you are right.   if that is the worst that they do in response, that makes Putin looks weak.    Like our response to Pearl Harbor being the US Navy sinking some Japanese subs and calling it a day.   I’m not so sure you can humiliate Putin and Russia so deeply and get off so easily.

  8. You know that Russia is going to respond in a dramatic way to the drone attacks to its nuclear bombers. Because it’s Russia, it will likely be aimed at civilians.    I have a very bad feeling about Russia’s response.

And yet it seems like we are at some sort of pivotal point where the orange man may get mad enough at Putin keeping him from his Nobel prize that he gives Ukraine toys that can fuck Russia up more efficiently.    If Putin kills a ton of Ukrainian civilians in some horrific attack, Putin has to weigh the public relations debacle having the possibility to push Trump into a pro Ukrainian position…. because TACO always has his eye on public opinion polls.

What will happen? I fall off the fence thinking that Putin doesn’t give a shit about what the world thinks and is soon going to send a whole lot of Ukrainian civilians to their graves

If anything, the attack reveals how technology, combined with imagination, can overcome a mindset that is stuck in the past. I am afraid our military mindset is firmly stuck in the past, with gigantic task force groups and huge, vulnerable weapons platforms. I think technology has evolved to the point where an imaginative enemy can overcome our defenses by employing asymmetric attacks, like 911 and this drone attack on Russia's strategic arsenal.

And France actually had better tanks than the German Mark IIIs that rolled through the narrow roads in Belgium.

What France did NOT have is a tank doctrine that gathered tanks into a modern armored division.  The French thought of tanks simply as infantry support - and spread them throughout their forces - which prevented the ability to assemble a large French armored force in numbers sufficient to repel the German blitzkrieg.

    Was it uphill both ways?

Just one.  You had to walk up the hill to get to school - but coming home was easy peezy.   Except the day I got my brand new Schwinn bike that was a bit too big for me and on the way home the hill was steep enough that whatever the hell I weighed was not enough to bring the bike to a stop, so my runaway bike actually did not stop at the end of the street - but went through - and across - the street into a neighboring ball field.

Fortunately, while there was traffic coming in both directions I was untouched going through the intersection.   To be fair to long-ago prosecutors, I did come pretty close to dying that day.

Shit, a few years later when I was on safety patrol in Kansas during a blizzard the school let us stand out in the zero degree /high winds with my whistle and my buddy’s stop sign on a wooden pole.  by the time it dawned on them that maybe they should bring us back in we all had frostbite on our faces.

In a whole lot of ways, the good old days were moronic.    Everything is a balance, and the pendulum has swung too far the other side.   Letting us run around unsupervised during the summer from morning to when it got dark put me in several circumstances that could’ve been serious injury or fatality producing.  I fortunately missed that experience, but it was probably the golden age of pedophilia because nobody was watching the kids.

Now, of course, the kids have all been taken and they are gone.

Woke complaining won’t bring back those cabins.   They will be sold off by DOGE to better private businesses who can use them in a way for more efficient than the government ever could.

I understand that Elon has had several bids - including one from the owner of a pizza place with a basement who wants to buy the cabins and turn it into “Don’t Tell Mommy Day Care”.

ya see, this is where that political science degree comes in.   It is top notch liberal arts training like that which allows me to see the incredibly nuanced differences in Putin and Trump‘s attempt to resolve the Ukrainian war problem

are any of y'all familiar with the term "broken" as it relates to a condo building?   I get a newsletter from a big commercial lender every week or so, and this week they are tooting their own horn because they placed a loan on a 125 unit "broken condo building".   I've got a lot of experience with distressed assets, but I've never seen "broken" before.

    Any idea what that means?

    Quote

A "broken" or "fractured"condominium project refers to a multifamily residential property where the developer or owner has less than 100% ownership of the units, often meaning there are unsold or leased units mixed with those owned by individual homeowners. This situation can arise when a project is not fully sold or when market conditions change, leaving some units unsold or in a state of incomplete development.

Tass have published Russia's memorandum, which it refused to hand over to Ukraine until the peace talks in Istanbul today.

The demands basically amount to surrender, regime change, and putting Ukraine back in Russia's grip. They are:

    1) Ukraine withdraws from four partially occupied regions (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia) and lets Russia have them. "International recognition" follows.
    2) Ukraine pledges never to join any military alliances or coalitions (NATO etc). No foreign boots on the ground or military infrastructure either.
    3) Any current or future efforts to this end are rolled back or banned.
    4) No nuclear weapons for Ukraine.
    5) Caps on Ukraine's military. Far-right units are disbanded.
    6) "Full guarantee of rights for Russian speakers." Russian becomes an official language.
7). Ban on "glorification and promoting of Nazism and neo-Nazism." Nationalist parties and groups are disbanded.
😎 All western sanctions are lifted. No sanctions can be introduced in future either.
    9) "Resolution of issues" with family reunification and displaced persons.
    10) Both sides agree not to demand reparations.
    11) Ukraine rolls back its restrictions on the Russian Orthodox Church.
    12) Full restoration of diplomatic and economic relations, "including gas transit," as well as transport and "other ties, including with third countries."

There are two paths to a ceasefire:

Either: Ukraine withdraws from the four partially occupied regions within 30 days.
Or: the "package option" – Ukraine does a bunch of other things first, including holding elections, and then withdraws from those regions later. All within 30 days.

Looks like we are really close to a deal then, huh?
