  1. Top 5 draft pick, top 10 prospect Kyle Tucker and minor league free agent Jose Siri are not exactly comparable situations.
  2. Too late to edit, but I meant to add that’s based on a faulty premise anyway. They’re not actually working less. The school day and year are longer to compensate.
  3. That’s not happening. One of the best paying districts in this area has been doing 4 day weeks for many years now. It is done primarily for budget reasons, sure, but no one is cutting teachers salaries.
  4. This is increasingly common where I live just outside Houston. Seems like at least one new district is going to it every year now.
  5. Gurriel makes 8 million , is in the final year of his deal, and Houston is $30+ million under the tax threshold. That’s just pure nonsense, even before you get to his standing in the clubhouse.
  6. FWIW, baseball trade values rates his value more highly than any prospect in the org except Brown.
  7. Or just completely ignore the last 5 days, whatever works. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2022/07/25/mlb-power-rankings-trade-deadline-standings/10141255002/
  8. This would obviously never happen in real life, but Baseball Trade Values accepted this: Astros get: Soto, Bell, Corbin Nationals get: Garcia, Brown, McCormick, Meyers, Diaz, Leon
  9. Jim Edmonds: the master of making easy catches look difficult by diving unnecessarily. One of my least favorite players of all time.
  10. He had a great serious turn as Burt Macklin.
  11. Justin Verlander in the 2017 ALCS comes to mind.
  12. It’s not about length of game so much as lack of action. An emphasis on 3 true outcomes+base hits being gobbled up means that there’s nothing going on except increasingly longer at bats most of the time.
  13. So many of the first 10 picks were college Seniors that they can sign underslot, they should have plenty of cash to facilitate it.
  14. Because first you’d have to pass over Antarctica which rings the entirety of the outside edge of the earth, of course.
  15. Not really. That’s just the way the Astros tend to draft. In both 2018 and 2019, they drafted 2 high schoolers in the first 35 rounds. They’ve been picking college bats in particular for a long time.
  16. Benintendi is just a Michael Brantley who cant play in Canada. Unless Brantley is not going to be healthy by October, I don’t see the point.
  17. "If you were a breakfast taco, and you were starving, would you eat yourself?"
  18. The op reads like an excerpt from the manifesto of a mad man. And yet, this is the most insane post on this thread.
  19. Thomas Malthus was worried about it a couple of hundred years before you were born. Maybe those concerns were misplaced.
  20. At least we missed the Eugenics Wars of the 1990s.
  21. Probably a poor choice of words on my part there, but not at all what I was trying to convey if you read the thread (and you added the “faith” part). I meant he’s all about glorifying himself. It’s narcissism.
  22. Could be. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m just not convinced that’s the primary motivation. (And I’m a former high school athlete too, fwiw and my brother is a high school football coach). I read this guy as being much more inwardly than outwardly focused, personally. At any rate, speculating as to his motivation(s) doesn’t really matter too much. We agree more than disagree.
