That’s not at all what he said. It’s almost the opposite, in fact.

Then why even bring up revenue? The point is, these “arguments” all boil down to emoting about being bad at football. No one is happy about that. But when you try to contend the athletics department is failing at winning or losing money, they fall apart, because they’re simply not true.

But revenues aren’t falling. By your own criteria, he’s not failing at football.

So if you concede that, what exactly are you arguing anyway?

Is that what that was supposed to be?

People arguing on a message board about how someone else uses their “limited time and resources” is amazing.

“He’s too responsive to fans!” is such a bizarre talking point.
  8. This is a false dichotomy, though. You don’t have to mortgage the future to load up now.

I wonder if anyone claiming this actually read the letter. He didn’t say anything about the caliber of the current players. He talked about attrition, injuries, and illness. The point was about depth, not throwing anyone under the bus. The hysterical reactions to that are ridiculous.
  10. If you read it, he simply pointed out that we’ve had a lot of attrition (plus injuries and illness). Which is why the pull quote says we have “depth issues.” That’s hardly throwing any players under the bus.
  11. Well you seemed to be talking in much more absolute terms to me. Sorry if I misunderstood.
  12. Did you miss our basketball hire?
  13. You know the answer to that. But this thread isn’t about logic, it’s about petulance and angst.
  14. I was thinking like he lost a bet or something.
  15. There’s more than a chance, it should be the expectation. Not being 11-1 would be a disappointment. Seton Hall is the only team with a pulse.
  16. I’m having trouble putting these two things together.
  17. Cool, revenue isn’t hurting at all, no worries.
  18. Or the baseball team that was just in the CWS. Or the basketball team that made a home run hire. Or the women’s team who just went to the Elite Eight. Or…
  19. The football team is. The athletics department is not. That’s kinda the point.
  20. The BMDs hired Herman without even considering other candidates. He was the splash hire who also had ties here-the golden boy. That was a mistake even at the time-not because Herman’s failure was inevitable, but because it was an anointing rather than a true search. Then when he disappointed-and because he’s such a grating personality who had no political capital-they undermined him to force him to be fired. There are always the machinations behind the scenes and delusions of grandeur to hire Saban or Meyer or whoever the next shiny toy is. This has been going on for a decade now (and other than Mack winning enough/politicking enough to keep them in check), really ever since DKR retired. It does not matter who the AD is. But sure, let’s fire a guy who is overseeing an otherwise successful department because we’re too stupid to butt out actually let him do his job in this area. A massive power vacuum will only make things better. And there’s no way we could make a huge mistake in hiring the next AD, right?
  21. I am “churchy” I guess. I agree completely with you.
  22. Literally having the most successful athletics department in the country last year, hires other than football, new facilities.
  23. Maybe some people realize the athletics department doesn’t just consist of football.
