But also...one could argue the only Republican that has a chance against Biden is Trump.  Like it or not, he is the “leader” of the movement and it will be challenging for the GOP not to nominate him. It’s almost like Trump doesn’t have that much choice. He will be the nominee, even if he’s dead or in prison.  I very much want to be wrong on this.

Without Trump on the ballot, millions who held their nose and probably voted for a Democrat for president for the first time in many election cycles if not ever likely go right back to voting Republican.  I also believe there are plenty of rabid Trump supporters out there who may stay home and not feel excited enough to go out and vote for a different Republican, but I think the first group outnumbers the second.  Just my gut feeling.  80-year-old Joe Biden isn't exactly exciting to most people.  He's not going to be as hard to beat as Obama or Bill Clinton, regardless of his record number of votes in 2020.  Millions of those votes were anti-Trump votes, not pro-Biden votes.

Jeezus... why are we still talking about 2020 election.... it's no wonder people could care less about politics or Washington in general....

Let's revisit 2020 and name call to ramp up the partisan divide once again... great job. 2022 off to a great start by looking backwards.

It's the 1 year anniversary of the attempt to violently overthrow the results of the election.  It's also still being investigated by special committee and an event which people are still being prosecuted and sentenced for.  The book hasn't been closed, so it's not going backwards, and more people should care about those in our government and media who were behind it.

  3. My young elementary school age dream was to be a cartoonist and draw comics for the newspaper.  Turns out I suck at drawing.

If I could do it all over again, I'd move to LA for at least a few years after high school and try to pursue acting or comedy.  It's something I secretly wanted to do, but I just thought it was so impractical and a pipe dream.  Told myself I'd spend a lifetime being poor chasing a dream that would likely never happen.  But it's not like I didn't waste plenty of time anyway switching from one unrelated job to the next in my early-mid 20's.  I didn't wind up in my current industry that I'll spend the rest of my career in until after I was 30, so I could have chased the dream for a few years and worse case scenario ended up in the same exact place I'm at now.

Nah, internet Karens who complain about fireworks on July 4 and December 31 are the worst.  Any other night, bitch away.  People go on Reddit/next door on those 2 nights to bitch about fireworks like it’s some new phenomenon

Noise in general doesn't bother me.  I live about a mile outside of downtown and hear train horns, police sirens, and helicopters on the regular.  A night or two of fireworks doesn't phase me.

I hate them for my dog's sake, though, who spent his new year's eve hiding between the couch and the wall shivering in fear of the non stop popping all around us.  Before the 4th of July I'm going to have to get some doggy xanax or something.

Not sure about that.  Apparently breathalyzers detect mouthwash, bread, gum, etc as alcohol.

I've had an interlock from DUI.  Mouthwash, yes, but it's pretty simple to not blow a false positive.  Have a drink of water or literally anything non-alcoholic before getting in the car and the mouthwash alcohol will be gone.  I think the bread, gum, energy drinks, and everything else setting off an interlock is largely nonsense and an excuse people use when they get caught not wating long enough after drinking to try to start their car.  I never changed my eating or gum chewing habits and not once ever had a false positive.  I'm not saying it can't happen, just that it's extremely unlikely and can, again, be solved by taking a drink of anything and getting the bread, gum, or whatever sugars out of your mouth.

The fact that interlocks might once in the bluest of moons give a false positive and stop you from starting a car for a few seconds while you rinse your mouth out isn't really a good reason to not have interlocks in cars, IMO.  I think a bigger issue is you might have to make an exception for someone who has COPD or possibly a respiratory issue that affects them from properly being able to blow in it.  It's not just a quick little blow.  You have to blow pretty hard and consistently into an interlock emptying out most of the air in your lungs.

I for one, am super jealous of the athletic program whose football team won 2 games last year and is 5 years past an institutional cover up of rape scandal.

I'm not jealous of their program's shameful scandals, but yeah I'm a bit envious of the way they find ways to not suck at football.

I can also admit when other schools have good football teams and we don't without having to put qualifiers and whataboutism around it.

Although to be fair I'm far less in awe of what Baylor is doing and far more frustrated with what we're not able to do.

If you want to make a disaster movie about global warming, just do it. I like Adam McKay, but this was too cute.

If you made the movie deliberately about climate change and promoted it as a climate change movie, half of the population would automatically tune out and rule out seeing it without knowing anything else about it.

I get that the comedy bar is lowered for Trumpers/GOP supporters, but are they even trying anymore?  Nothing about this even makes sense.

GIFs and JibJabs used to be the one thing they weren't completely terrible at.

was surprised that second post credit scene was more of a teaser than just a scene

Right?  That wasn't a post credits scene.  It was practically a trailer for the next ________ movie.

The movie was very fun and enjoyable.  I'd personally been getting Marvel fatigue the past couple of years, but this one I was pretty amped for all the way through.

  11. Yeah, definitely watch season 1.  If you're going to skip a season, skip season 15 that's airing right now.  It's kind of shit so far.

Never thought I'd say this, but Dee's parts are the only ones I'm genuinely laughing at in these episodes.

  12. Fair.  I'd probably do the same thing, but they will still let their biases and opinion bleed into their straight reporting.

CNN is still far better than FOX, which at their worst can be lazy, sensationalist, and overtly biased, whereas Fox lives in a completely alternate reality.  Both are worse than what they were 20 years go around the time of 911.

Good Lord, I miss newsmen like Walter Cronkite and Mike Wallace.

(shit, I shouldn't have typed that...now somebody's gonna #metoo them from beyond the grave)

I think Chris Wallace just got fed up, like his father and stepfather did so many times, with the status quo of the "news machine."  FoxNews brass telling him to sit and look deeply impressed while somebody recites "Person.  Woman.  Man.  TV.  Camera."  Guy didn't study journalism at Harvard and build upon a family/stepfamily legacy for 50 fucking years so he could sit at the White House and pretend this was all so dammed fascinating.

However, my earlier quote was an illusion to "Major League", not anything actually about CNN/FOX.  Both of which, after 7:00p, are fucking garbage.

Just after 7:00?  Are we still doing the thing where we pretend cable news has "straight news" hours during the daytime filled with good old fashioned reporting?  That the punditry and propaganda only begins when Tucker Carlson comes on at dinner time to rile up your drunk grandma so she can call you just as you're putting the kids to bed while she rants about how the January 6 attacks were actually the FBI dressed as Antifa dressed as MAGA supporters?

CNN/Fox is mostly garbage all day.

  14. When you go to the movies and they always have a commercial for their own theater during the already too long commercials/previews.

Hey buddy, I'm already here.  You really don't have to try to sell yourself to me.  Get on with the show.

  15. Conservatives/GOP types love to pretend that post-pandemic gas prices were the norm throughout the Trump presidency and that the price of oil didn't suddenly tank in early 2020 when the roads across this country looked like the opening of Vanilla Sky combined with a Saudi-Russian price war in March.

Had the house to myself so I put on my Let It Be T-shirt like a dork, went to the patio, smoked a bowl, and put on Let It Be. So fucking good.

If wearing a Let It Be t-shirt makes you dorky, then I don't want to be whatever the opposite of dorky is.

  17. @Buzzrock Do not skip season 1.  The show is good from the start, even without Devito.  You'll be doing yourself a disservice.

Season 1 they're still kind of finding their groove, but the chemistry is good from the start and the consistency is better than the majority of the last 4 or 5 seasons where many episodes are very hit or miss. It's not like it's a bad show just because Devito isn't there yet.  The underage drinking one where they all go to prom is a classic, and like AI_4_ISU said, you'll miss a lot of world building with the characters' origins.

He’s had a surprisingly good career. He’s had major supporting roles in 3 terrific TV shows( FNL, Fargo, Breaking Bad) as well as several highly regarded films.

Oh, yeah, he's a great actor.  Game Night was one of the best comedies of the past decade and he was hilarious in it.

The actor that played Landry Clarke, Matt’s bff, married Kirsten dunst.  Not sure who married up

He did.  Dunst isn't a knockout, especially by Hollywood standards, but she's pretty cute and I've always liked her.  Landry is Landry.

  20. I watched it the first time it was streaming on Netflix around 2014ish.  I really liked it and will probably eventually run through it again some day.

Loved that most of the high school cast turned over and the show didn't miss a beat rather than forcing people to pretend the same group of kids were playing football together for 5 years.

The whole "there's an entire second high school in our little 4A town nobody talks about and they haven't had a football team until now" storyline seemed a bit unrealistic and out of nowhere, but it worked.
