Zeihan says Russia has 25 years worth of dumb bombs to strap guidance fins onto. That's a stretch, but still. Not encouraging.
Good thing he's a joke and prone making outlandish prognostications and presenting erroneous information like it's the gospel. If you take this guy seriously, you need to look for better analysis.

On the other hand - I'm getting very tired of the "oh well, we lost another Starship" casualness. You are eventually going to run out of taxpayer money (funneled through Elon).
I agree with your sentiment. It's helpful to consider that other Aerospace Cos just lose that money without launching a thing.
They just burn that money in the waterfall design process. Starliner? When will it fly in production?
I think that Space X has shown that they can deliver, and perhaps more importantly can capture the public's attention and therefore government cash. Maybe think of these flights as 75% development 25% marketing

Share trivial interesting things you just learned. Doesn't need to be important or useful.

Agreed. Standing up for Blackthorne took guts, and the gift exchange was quite touching.
She's not scared of death... she's hoping for it. It's been 30yrs since I read the book, but IIRC it was some Japanese 5d chess. Women ran the home and she was within her right to ask him to leave. So he had leave or risk losing face.
If she died protecting the guns, she has served Toranaga, protected her family honor, done her duty to the Gaijin, and gotten a quick death.

90% subtitles is just too much to keep straight for my booze addled brain.
I can do a show in Spanish because I speak the language..sort of. Enough to at least not have to stare at the subtitles the entire viewing.
Well on Hulu you can go into episodes and choose the english dub version. I normally hate dubs, but it's been pretty good so far (there are still some sub titles though)

I'll give you a 50% credit towards my own rap competition... The winner get TWO writing credits, royalties from all of my albums, but you must go on tour with the next Surly road trip...
It's $100, but I need two verses so your recording costs might be slightly higher depending on how fast you can

Yeah, they did that for me with England and Ireland. It may be accurate, it may have to do with how many people there took the test. In my case, there's a good 1/4 of the family with Highland Scottish names who barely leave a blip. For some of them we know which town or island they came from, but no dice.
On the other hand, pretty strong showings in the west of Ireland and round about Manchester, Liverpool, and nearby industrial areas. I don't doubt that many of them came from there too, it matches other names. So where are the Scottish Highlanders? Well, most of them don't live in the Highlands anymore, thanks to the clearances and normal backwoods emptying-out. So where might distant cousins from there live now? Possibly all over. Sitting in Manchester taking 23nMe tests?
But in the meantime I just claim the Pogues and Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Same-ish Lots of Scottish surnames in my family and family lore of being predominantly Scots. Ancestry returned majority English ~65% Scotish~17% Irish~13% and Germany/Norway making up the rest.
Here's the rub... there is also a decent bit of French in my family... I know this because I have genealogical records of ancestors coming directly from France. This is why...
Illegal DNA test in France
It is considered illegal to take a DNA test outside of legal proceedings in France. According to the law, it is forbidden to carry out a genetic analysis in a private setting, for example on the internet or abroad. Therefore, as an individual, you do not have the right to use tests considered recreational through private laboratories.Bottom line these tests are only as accurate as the data they are compared against.

Worked at the FEC through undergrad. Loved working there, from being an usher to working security to being in the front office. The whole place was a blast and the people were cool to work with. Best times were when big shows would roll in -- you could meet the performers if you knew where to be when. I was never obnoxious about it, but I wasn't going to miss a chance to meet people. The best memories are shaking Stevie Ray's hand and working security outside of Van Halen's dressing room. Met all of them, they were all super cool, and Eddie warmed up for the show right in front of me. Thanks FEC for letting me meet and hang with my two guitar heroes.
man! I worked security @UF. I only got to see Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, and Garth Brooks! ^This is some bullshit!
csb I was one of a few guys working security for a small indie band I'd never heard of. It did not go well, toughest gig I ever worked. It was Indigo Girls and the crowd was not really thrilled with the phallocracy. Just 4 guys trying to tell 1000+ women what they could and could not do. Not scary but very very hostile.

During wwII Coke had engineers imbedded with combat troops. They had some sort of sweetheart deal to set up bottling plants as the army advanced. After all you need good sources of clean water. The French dubbed it Coca-colonization. It lead to some of De Gaulle's pushback against American cultural spread after the war and France's resistance to all things English & American.
