  1. Christ on a cracker, OU's offense is historically good--and we gave up 39 points.  Included in that is a safety and a TD at the end of the half that never should have happened.  Sometimes your HC has to do you a solid.  We held them to 13 points in the 1st half, and instead of taking a lead to HT, Herman crapped himself.

I'm more concerned why we look like a bunch of pussies in the 4th quarter of half the games.  Offense and defense.

Also, I'm to the point where I think we should sign 5 DBs every cycle and push the ones that can't keep up out every couple of years.  We need 7 legit DBs in the pipeline at any given time.

That said, I think our future is extremely bright.  Sugar Bowl is way more than I was expecting, and I think we're a 9 win team next year.  2020 is the one I'm eyeing for contending for the CFP.

Fried up a stuffing patty topped it with a little leftover turkey, a touch of gravy and 2 fried eggs for breakfast.  Outstanding.

This right here.  I call it Thanksgiving Benedict in my house.  It's a crowd pleaser

  3. I'm doing a Heritage Turkey this year.  Did one 4 years ago and don't completely remember what I did, other than brining.  It was great.

After doing some research, I'm not brining this year, but will rub a compound butter between the skin and breast, and I'll roast hot and fast.

Does anyone have a good jerk recipe?  I want to make some jerk chicken here soon.  Would buy pre-made if I have to, but I'd rather be able to make it (and tweak it) myself.

Dry jerk seasoning or jerk marinade?  The below dry rub is awesome on wings.  It's what Plucker's used.  I imagine it's great on other cuts as well, and I plan to try it on salmon in the near future.

I have't found a marinade that particularly blew me away.  I've tried my own and I've tried stuff in a jar.  It was all a bit "meh".

  5. Saw Black Panther last night.  I enjoyed it--or at least I was entertained.  But I guess I was expecting more.  Seemed like everyone went on and on about what a great movie it was.

Saw Blockers last week based on a recommendation from a guy at work.  I was skeptical, and for good reason.  I can't believe I paid for that POS.  At least it was only $6 for PPV and not $100+ for tickets, drinks, snacks, babysitter, etc to see it in the theater.

I'm familiar enough with microbiology to know soaking a vat of rice and then washing it is riskier than just washing it straight away.

Serious question...where is the risk introduced?  Are you assuming the water it's soaking in is already ripe with bacteria?

  7. Had a flashback this morning to something that happened over the summer on vacation.  We were walking down the street in Crested Butte after eating lunch.

Wife: Where are my sunglasses?  I can't find my sunglasses!

Me: Well we haven't gone far, so they may be at the restaurant.

Wife: No, I know I had them.  They're not here!  Not in my purse, not in the stroller!

Me: You're not talking about the sunglasses you're wearing right now, right? (kinda smile thinking I'm going to get a glare for my tone.  She'll sometimes carry 2 pairs of sunglasses--one stylish and one for exercise--and I thought obviously she wasn't talking about the ones on her head)

Wife pulls them off, says "yea, that's them", and keeps walking as if nothing happened.  She didn't have them on top of her head.  She was actively wearing them to protect her eyes from the sun.  Thank God some random dude witnessed the whole thing so he could laugh at her with me.

My 7 year-old son did the same thing with his watch this morning.  He was frantically looking for it, only to find it on his wrist 2 minutes later.

This.  Cheap straw cowboy hat when on my tractor cutting the back lot and lease.  Gets dirty and smelly AF so I replace it every couple years.

No shit.  What does everyone else wear when mowing the lawn?  A fucking baseball hat?  That'll only keep your forehead protected from the sun.

If you didn't get an answer, we have Spectrum in South Austin because Google Fiber isn't ready yet.  Internet is $90 per month with their equipment (router).  Decent service but too expensive.

Thanks.  I pulled the trigger 2 weekends ago.

Paying $65 for 200Mb/s down.  I have my own modem and wireless router.

And went with YouTube TV for $40.

After taxes, I'll be saving about $67/month, but now have a better selection of sports channels and almost 3X the bandwidth (had 70Mb/s down before).

  10. Any recent data points on how much people are paying for internet only through Spectrum in Austin?  I am cutting the cord this week and am curious what I should be pushing for when I make the call.  We don't watch much tv, and when I looked at the programming option on Youtube TV, it looked like a no-brainer considering how many sports channels there are.  About the only thing I'll miss is Food Network, and the reality is I can watch episodes on You Tube (not youtube tv) if I really want to.

I started studying my bill, and I pay $75 after taxes for cable boxes, DVR, and "local TV and sports programming".  This doesn't include the $99 I pay for bundled Internet and TV.  You Tube TV is $42 after taxes, but I'm curious what I should be shooting for when it comes to Internet only plans from Spectrum.  For reference, I currently have the Extreme plan (100 Mbps down), and it is perfectly fine for what we do so I plan to stay at that level.

  11. It's amazing to me to see the number of people that think it should be perfectly legal to launch yourself at the head of an opponent.

I've also thought for a while if you really want to eliminate that sort of hit from football, you need to take away padding, not add more of it.  If players wore leather helmets, no one would lead with their head.

I'm leaning more and more towards convenience so might just do the Weber Performer ...

I've had a Performer for about 8 years now and love it.  Never smoked a brisket on it, but the Smokenator looks interesting.  I usually just move the coals to one side if I'm going to smoke something.  I grill way more than I smoke, and the convenience of the built in propane starter is awesome.
