This thread needs more activity because I refuse to join one of those weird jeep sites.

OK, git your Jeep and start the mods, then post pics!

We've probably done all the mods we're going to.  About a year ago we wore out the stock tires and moved up to 35s.  You can do that on a stock Rubicon because it already comes with a bit of a factory lift compared to the other trim packages.  I think some of the brand-new Rubis are even coming with 35s as a factory option, I'm guessing it's as a result of competition with the new Bronco.

That competition is good, Jeep had been resting on its laurels for quite some time, with really no other true competitors in the same market space.  Now the Bronco is pushing Jeep designers to change and innovate.

  2. I've driven I/Os my whole life and I can pretty much put them anywhere on a dime.

When we got our current X45 it was a huge and lengthy lesson in humility, learning how to maneuver that large inboard.

And as y'all have mentioned, that "large" boat is pretty small compared to modern towboats.  It's crazy.

Like all their other turditions, they made it up. Are they counting those fake NCs they decided they should claim (and no one had ever heard of) when they moved to the SEC?

And also does their conference championship total include those fake B12 football conference titles they put on their stadium, when they tied for the division and didn't even play for the conference championship?

Those towns around there don't have the infrastructure to support that amount of craziness.  We have a family ranch not too far away and I'm not sure if I want to brave going to that area and leaving after it's done. My house in Central Texas is in the area of totality and only 20 seconds under the very center of the eclipse line time.

Leaving after it's done is the primary concern to me.

I expect that people will arrive in someone staggered fashion throughout the weekend leading up to it, but since Monday is a school/workday I'm guessing a lot of folks will be trying to leave very shortly after the eclipse and get home to be ready for work/school on Tuesday.  Gonna take a lot of patience to exit the area Monday evening.

it is absolutely, completely and totally going to 100% be a shitshow in Fredericksburg.

need to plan to be stuck out there most of the time you are in town and steer clear of HEB/Walmart for groceries. expect very poor cell service and gas.

not even kidding. initial expectations for the county were supposed to be in the 80k range, then upped to 100k and now it's over that.

very seriously, it's going to be crazy as hell.

    hope y'all enjoy it!

Thanks.  We'll be out on the property camping.  Didn't really have any plans to go into town.  We're 100% self-contained for freshwater, wastewater, heat, cooling, etc.

And we'll have plenty of guns as well, if it turns into a zombie apocalypse survival thing, with all of the Fredericksburg tourists scattering into the wilderness searching for food and water.

  6. Intentionally setting up and driving out Horner in the midst of his second run of domination at RBR seems... stupid.

I mean, RBR can go suck it, I'd be fine if that team ejected itself from F1 and faded into the mists of racing teams long past.  But it sure seems like people that actually like Red Bull, wouldn't want to dump their highly successful team principle.

I haven't liked 'vettes since the 1963.5 split window.  The C8 changed that for me.  Damn fine car.  I'd like to get one in a couple of years, but my wife says I can't wear a gold necklace, so tradeoffs.

I actually really liked the C3s.

And I bet you could rent a gold chain, just long enough to buy the C8, and then return it.  Wife never has to know.

  8. I have a bunch of random stuff, including a set of white national championship highball glasses just like armybrat's upthread.

But my most cherished item is an autographed football signed by Darrell Royal, Earl Campbell, Mack Brown, and Ricky Williams. My aggie father-in-law knew the equipment manager at UT back in the '98 timeframe and got them all for me.  Earl signed in a massive gold paint pen, it's awesome.

We got like 6" of rain in the last 24 hrs

Yeah I'd heard that was coming your way.  Hang in there!

(No, I mean literally, hang in there and try not to slide down a mountainside...)

  10. State laws govern NIL, the NCAA  never can, nor can any other body that the conferences try to put together to standardize it.  The states aren't ever going to bother standardizing so only a federal law could, and I doubt we ever see one.

  11. Oh, and for the past few years, Bestop has run a mail-in rebate program in the spring/early summer.  Between $100-$150 off with proof of purchase.  We got $150 back on ours 3 years ago.  So if you end up deciding to go that route, start looking for the rebates to show up in March or April.  Hopefully they'll renew the program this year.

I don't want him to go because I feel the lulz would be so much more with a Ferrari engineer. Bono and Lewis have been together long enough that they know the language for each other. Lewis and whoever the hell is saying stuff like "We are thinking about Plan E, plus five. Question."? Popcorn is ready.

Oh I'm sure that Ferrari engineering and "strategy" will still provide the lulz.

Update - the blue Jeep had rust all over it, even on the inside. It was obviously a beach Jeep that wasn’t maintained well. Pivoting to another Jeep that just came in. It’s a sport S with a hard top and brand new Goodyear wranglers for $1000 more than the base sport that was rusted.

So, any specific suggestions for a hard top? Should I consider an aftermarket soft top for good weather seasons?

Thanks in advance for the help, Surly Jeep Community.

I like having both a hard top and a soft top.  We usually run the hard top in DEC-FEB, and use the soft top the rest of the year.  Aftermarket soft tops run from $1,000 to $2,000.  Bestop makes the OEM version that brand new Jeeps ship with, and most folks (including me) recommend sticking with Bestop for aftermarket.

This is the one we have, I like the sporty slant-back better than the OG squared back, but it's totally a matter of personal preference.

I'm actually fairly discouraged with how many people are going to see this.  It's a shit show trying to get reservations anywhere.  I don't know anyone with private land in the line, so I guess I really will just end up driving out to the hill country and pulling over on the side of the road.  If the authorities are trying to stop people from doing that, I'll be even more pissed.

Yeah I get it and that sucks.  If we didn't have a "private land" option and I were staring at $1000/night reservations, I'd be really frustrated too.

    People, man.  I hate 'em.

(Not y'all of course but, ya know,  OTHER people...)

I read that Ferrari's stock (RACE) was already up 10% in high-volume trading in reaction to the earnings report when the news hit, but the news probably had some effect on the remaining increase in value, adding to the momentum. Good timing for Ferrari. RACE has corrected today with profit-taking and is down 3%. So Hammer Time is over for now...

    In other news:

Since rumors broke early, and from credible sources, and were ultimately true-- I don't think it's unreasonable to believe they had more to do with the increase.  I'm not sure it's normal for a luxury brand to increase by 12.6% in one day, or even 10% in one day, based solely on an earnings release from a prior quarter...

Well Ferrari did what they could to make this an easy decision for Lewis.

Ferrari stock jumped 12.6% yesterday, that's something like $9 billion.  They also had higher than expected earnings in Q4, but that's not what's drives a 12.6% jump in one day.

    Just... wow.
