  1. You’ve perfectly encapsulated my style...
  2. Dots would be perfection on that LP.
  3. My wedding ring wasn’t a traditional band. It was a fairly wide and airy James Avery continuous Icthus band and it made a racket. However, I found that it made me learn to position my left hand more properly and be a lot more precise in my fretting. The ring (and ex wife) are long gone but my playing improved significantly. Win/win.
  4. As a small business owner and freelance illustrator/designer I’ll go ahead and thank you for him.
  5. The white gives it a vintage vibe IMO. Had I not already bought that Strat there’d be two of those in this thread. That’s a beauty.
  6. Damn, Bama, really sorry to hear about your health condition. However, welcome to the club. Mojo gave some great advice. I’ll go one further and say whatever you do, don’t overthink it. It can get frustrating trying to do too much too soon. Learn the fretboard, the chord shapes he mentioned and the position of power chords. Then move to simple scales and scale shapes. Pretty soon simpler songs will start to sound familiar, then look familiar and finally *feel* familiar.
  7. Congratulations, Celery. All the best.
  8. Buzz, you’re the bomb, brother, but imma strangle you for Flagpole Sitta. Just reading that is gonna give me the ear worm from hell.
  9. That is a tough call. The red one is really striking and different. However, I think the tweed case pushes the blonde over the top for me.
  10. I’ve been coming back to this thread since Friday and I’m still struggling for words. He had been dealing with Fcancer since around ‘05 and I knew the day would come. He fought like the champion he was and defeated many of his demons in the process, and for this I’m very grateful. I’ll never forget watching that brilliant leg of the 4x100 in Montreal. His stride was so elegant and graceful. Effortless. It was as if he was born for that moment in time. So many memories. My brother knew him at UT. He says though he was catered to in HS, practically worshipped, he remained kind and humble. He will remain one of my all-time sports heroes, Texas or otherwise. God bless you and rest well, Johnny “Lam” Jones. Sincere prayers for the family and all who are affected by his passing.
  11. Had the soundtrack for “Athens, Ga. Inside/Out”. I think my niece might still have it. Pylon, Dreams So Real, Flat Duo Jets, Bar-B-Que Killers, Love Tractor, The Squalls... great sampling of an amazing time in music. Also bought Dreams So Real’s “Father’s House” after hearing their cut. Wow. They were REM good. Too bad they went major label and watered it down. EDIT: went way off topic. Mea culpa.
  12. noharleyyet shoots! He scores! “Boom” goes the dynamite!
  13. I. R. S. Records was truly the sound of the early to mid-‘80’s. And, as a very relevant aside, Mitch Easter’s contribution to pop music simply cannot be overstated. R.I.P., Sara. And Faye too, of course.
  14. Damn, those both look sweet, AUTF. Whynotboth.gif. Think I’m leaning white though. No racist.
  15. Gotdammit. I had an old EBO back in the day. Ballsy raunchy bass. I hope whomever stole it enjoyed it or at least pawned it and it found a good home. As for P-90’s, you must own at least one guitar so equipped. If you’re adding after-markets, I highly recommend the Seymour Duncan P-100’s. They also make one that drops right into a ‘bucker slot. NRAA. No Routing At All.
  16. Yup. I was like Grandioso at first. Now I want.
  17. Sometimes I wonder if I need the tinfoil with you... Spot on.
  18. IIRC, Currier offered to sell Earl his number for like 10-20k but Earl refused. Not surprising from a guy who grew up with just a tad more than nothing and was still driving a mid-60’s Buick Le Sabre. Today’s generation of players should be so humble and wise with their new-found money. God bless Earl Campbell.
  19. I’m pretty sure Scooter has all the guitars, Chad.
  20. Good stuff, guys. Thanks. I’d be thrilled with What You Want, So Many Details and Freelance. Especially the last one. It really speaks to me. Me and Chaz are both designers as well as musicians. He’s just way fucking cooler than I am. (I’m fully aware that second to last sentence is grammatically incorrect. It was done for effect, lest anyone think my copywriting skills are wanting... )
  21. Brother, I’m old enough to realize the significance of your user name. But only just... and we could all die tomorrow. That’s why we should buy new guitars today, amiright? Thanks for sharing. You’re selling that rosewood short. Gorgeous, as they all are.
  22. Surly/Gilmour’s doing it wrong/Guitar Mafia
  23. I’d love to hear a review on this when you get a chance. My son and I have really been into Toro y Moi as of late. The guy’s catalog is all over the place in a good way and I think he’s an exceptional talent.
