what does "surly" need a press pass for? what even is surly? a sad modicum of a partial slice of what shaggy once was in its prime? an internet message board almost entirely dedicated to grown men compulsively and obsessively wrecking their own emotional and mental health over politics and college football? a site where the owner is a hypersensitive aggy version of campus loopy and lhg? yeah, this site definitely deserves a press pass. for suuuurrreeeee. 👌🏼

Use the "Multiquote" button damn it

  2. Can confirm CR and DT are still full of retarded cliques who brigade neg regardless of good faith intentions. Fucking ridiculous this shit is still going on. I've been on this site for its whole existence, but because I don't post much and don't have 1000+ rep, I'm in danger of being booted because some butt-hurt children have time to waste going around and mass negging thirty posts at a time. I see this kind of immaturity out in the real world, but it's sad to see it's happening to Shaggy.

I'm hearing a lot of complaining, but not really given many solutions.

    Mix and or Match:

    - Shut down negging

    - Shut down negging posts in CR and DT

    - Don't allow more than 1 neg per poster per post per 30+ minutes (or similar)

    - Don't allow posters with more than 50% posts in DT or CR any neg privileges

    - Automatically neg posters who give out more than 5 neg in 5 minutes (or similar)

    - Block negging for posters with a high negs given per actual posts written (or similar)

Something needs to be done because DT and CR are a fucking cesspool that threatens discussion on the whole site. I understand it's an election year, but if this childish tribalism isn't addressed it will stay and spread like a cancerous malignancy to the rest of the board worse than it already has. And No, I could care less about the actual neg, it's the automatic banning that sucks. All because kids can't use their words, only mentally masturbate themselves with the neg button.

That's what proxy wars are.  It's the people fighting on the ground, but it's also the powers behind them/supplying them/egging them on.  The sides aren't just the ones listed, they're also Russia and Turkey.

This may come as a shock to you, but from 1955-1975, we weren't just fighting North Vietnam.  We were also fighting, by proxy, the USSR-their true backer.  Those little wars we fought in the 1980's in Central America?  Those were also proxy wars with the USSR.  Not all wars are named just for the primary belligerents.  Spoiler Alert:  The French & Indian War...yeah that wasn't between France and Indians nor France and Native Americans.

We're backing both Turkey and Russia right now, at least in terms of diplomacy and absence of condemnation.  That's an unsustainable model.  Or so history says.  It's okay, we'll get you caught up later this weekend.

Everyone here knows what proxy wars are. We are currently backing neither Russia or Turkey, regardless of twisted rationalizations where the US doing nothing equates to US "backing". And there has been plenty of condemnation from State, military, and private sources. So again, if the US is neither arming , nor advising, any the combatants, how is "the world's only superpower" "backing" both sides?

An Azerbaijani is a national of Azerbaijan, while an Azeri is an ethnicity.

We are neither directly supporting Armenia nor Azerbeijan.  We are looking the other way though as the two powers behind this proxy war duke it out.  We tacitly kiss the ass of both Russia and Turkey, as well as the despots who run those nations.  That is an unsustainable model.  Armenia and Azerbeijan aren't the issue for the U.S. and/or NATO.  Sooner of later, we can't be the kid hoping for attention at the party from both Putin and Erdogan.  We're gonna have to grow a spine.  This just the latest incarnation of proxy battles for test the U.S. and NATO.

So again, how has the US backed either side? The rest of your reply would seem to agree with my observation of American geopolitical withdrawal. And how is our detachment an "unsustainable model"? What interests do we have with either of the combatants or with the area? How does it hurt us geopolitically to let the Russians and Turks bleed themselves dry? Fuck both of them.

How has the US backed Armenia? Specifically? And aside from negotiating and encouraging the Caspian pipeline in the late nineties, how has the US backed the Azeris? Specifically?

In case no one is noticing, the US is moving away as the "world's policeman", and has been for about 15 years. We do not have a dog in this fight, and won't in most fights to come, save the Pacific.

To clarify, Cleopatra was of Greek descent.  She was born in Egypt.

I think people are basically outraged that a Jew is playing the leader of a Muslim country.  Or that a white woman is playing a brown woman.  I know, I know.  But people are that fucking stupid these days.

    Correct and known.

Egypt was not a Muslim country. Muhammad wouldn't be born for about 500 years and Cleopatra wasn't "brown", but ethnically indo-european/caucasian.

Activists, SJW, and people who randomly assume others give a shit about their political opinions are almost always morons.

The project is progressing. I'm wondering about how tuning might factor into the project. For some time, I have been wondering why our phones and computers need software updates, but not our car ECMs. Well, I found the following that helps any GM car owner check software upgrades that are needed but may not have been applied to your vehicle:

Most of the progress I have made on the project has involved defining my wants, needs and expectations for the output of the engine. First, drove to a "proper place" (for me, a feeder street) and from a dead stop, dropped it down into 1st, and romped on it, when I hit what I thought was an aggressive push of the engine, I shifted into 2nd and noted the RPMs. Same for 2nd to 3rd. Winding it out in 3rd had me flying on the freeway, so the 3/4 shift point can be thought out later.

With the RPM info, I googled the dyno chart on the engine and found out how many HP I was drawing from the engine at what I thought was the aggressive end of my driving style. Well, it turns out that number ain't that high. I was flying around at about 3k rpm which is about 200 HP. About as much as a Miata puts out.

So, if the engine is capable of 285HP stock, I need to some more research to learn how tuning might affect the rebuild decisions. Clearly I want power in the lower end of the power band, and I'm willing to give up top end (the engine has never been over 4k in its life). I also want gas mileage for between 2k and 2.5k in 4th gear (70-90 mph with no load).

Upgraded the transmission cooler core to 20,000 (from stock), planning the transmission rebuild to a 4L65E.

On to the tune. Any thoughts/ comments/ suggestions would be appreciated.

Good to see you're finding out the LS is already set up well for what you're asking of it, and should be able to deliver with just a "torker"/"RV" cam and tune. HP Tuners is the software most often used to adjust GM engine management, otherwise any good dyno shop should be able to adjust your PCM to suit. Please keep the thread informed, as I plan on a cam/exhaust/tune eventually too.

But the hype is real.  Really real.  Low end torque is where it's at for most people, when it's combined with decent horsepower and rpm (the things a lot of diesels lack).

True. Drive for show, putt for dough... Torque is where it's at.

It costs less than $3.60 a month, what do you expect?

For it to be the 5Mbs that was promised, and as stated for the third time, I understand that promotional internet would be the slowest. I didn't order it, nor do I pay for it, I'm just the one asked to "fix" it. As this thread is about Google Fiber, these are my experiences with it. YMMV obviously.

If you can't easily stream high definition with 50 Mbps, much less 500, then you have something set up horribly, horribly wrong.

That is barely paid fiber. You are paying for less than 6 months of any other provider for a service life of 7 years and bitching? That is amazing. Pay for the poors shit and get that shit. Jfc

This is actually a political post it seems. Go fuck yourself with that shit. Less than 50 bucks a year for internet is a steal. Sorry impoverished people get a better deal, allegedly. Also, fuck off asshole.

Sorry, meant 500 kilobytes download, and the set ups and specs have been gone over with Google, who tried to blame wifi usage though most users are within 15 feet of the router. As stated, I understand promotional fiber would be the slowest, but it is nothing like what was promised (5Mbs) regardless of cheapness. And there is nothing political about stating the facts of the matter.

  14. Family has Google Fiber in Barton Hills at the special promotional price of $300 total for 7 years which was offered when it was first run about 2-3 years ago. It is very slow and the wifi box is only 2G and can't be replaced. Can barely watch YT at 1080p, max of 500 megabytes download, and there is a noticeable lag when surfing around. I understand the promotional deal wouldn't come with wicked fast speed, but it is very slow and annoying that paid fiber is purposely nerfed when public housing gets higher speeds for free.

OL can be so hard to project. Who expected Cosmi and Kerstetter would be great starters?

    7 hours ago, Fud said:

Cosmi’s senior hudl wasn’t as good as it could have been because he was playing injured all season. But he got healthy around playoff time, and looked like a take for major programs

There were certainly rumbles about how good Cosmi could be when he committed. Fuddy is correct in that he was injured most of his senior year but healed towards then end and did a great job against Kelvin Chaisson in the playoffs. Kerstetter was the really pleasant surprise.
