I don’t care if they made a million bucks a year, they would still be susceptible to lobbyists.

I agree.  I was half assed in my comment, since that pay raise would be tied to restructured campaign finance and lobbying rules in an effort to get big money out of politics.  I know, pie in the sky dreaming.  And not the discussion for this thread.

  2. It wasn't a pay raise per se.  It was an adjustment to the per diem they can claim while in DC for both food and lodging. Think it came out to about an extra 37K each.

I personally think they should be forced to live with the increased costs of living caused by their actions or inactions.   On the other hand I think they are paid too little, leaving them susceptible to the lobbyists.

  3. I have a cousin who went to Baylor on scholarship in the 70s, and was a twirler.  There's just so much holier than thou, but also we're just better people, since we go to a high dollar private school and you went to a common school.   Then when they are losing they shake their heads and ask "what do you expect from little ol Baylor?"    When they win, it's practically God's will or something, and you never hear the end of David slaying Goliath.   Of course, there's no mention of any of the crap that's transpired there for decades.    And that cousin is highly racist and all the members of her family drop the N word with regularity.

SMU and Bill Clements and the Pony Express shit was just more of the same, sans God.  The methodists aren't as avid as the baptists.

    TCU were always the cockroaches.

Tech, I can remember when they joined the SWC, that never was a rivalry.  They were more suited to be Aggies' rival.

UH came in with Bill Yeoman and then Jenkins.  Those were bad years, but even then we knew they weren't players in the long haul.

RIce was the only one I ever respected, they weren't a bunch of insecure douchebags.   They knew they were whipping everyone academically, and that was the name of their game.  They played the games for the pleasure not the prestige.

I do have to say outside the football arena, basketball and baseball will be interesting come the tournaments.

  4. Lot of guys have different opinions after the game than before.  Maybe doing what you speak of would be better without all the kneejerk emotional comments and seeing actual analysis commentary.

The game threads are a beating with the same guys commenting over and over how Ewers, Sark or Worthy suck.  Like their waiting for the game to go south so they can say "told you so."

You guys did several years back with that one really good analyst.   Maybe have a team, some for different analysis and some surly humor tossed in?  Do a poll on who surly thinks would be best?

Well, that and the fact that he and Jill are pulling in roughly $600K per year.  Their debt obligations, including mortgages, are roughly equal to one year's income.  That's pretty damn good.  Most Americans probably owe at least 3 years income in mortgage alone.

That's why she's still working, to keep the upper hand on that leverage.

But I'm wondering at their age if they still have a mortgage.

Heck his book sales alone would buy quite a bit.

Oh I agree. Trump could literally beat an old woman to death on live TV and he'd still get 30% of the vote.

40% if she's a woman of color and on welfare.

  7. I have enjoyed watching Almost Paradise.  I like series that are filmed in and show different cultures, instead of what hollywood wants to portray them as.

And the female costar is very easy on the eyes.   Now and then she dresses down, which is an extra treat.   Standard cop detective type show, but not a bad watch.   And now and then they have some pretty decent guest stars.

  8. Yeah that Baylor game stunk.  On top of all that Teaff had money whipped Robert Strait to Baylor the year before and that left a really bad taste in a lot of folks' mouths.

The fix was definitely in that day to give Teaff a nice sunset to ride into.  Guy always reminded me of a lot of Osborne with his holier than thou airs.

  9. One of the things that hurt us in 09 was Mack not getting Gilbert in more games for experience under fire.  I guess he was playing McCoy so much to help him get a Heisman.

I like the fact we are seeing Bush, Taafe and other non starters in the rotation.  This game like Rice had the feel of a scrimmage, like someone said above.  First half was a lot of trying out different personnel in different packages, plays.    Then in the second half, they quit experimenting and pinned their ears back.  Like a cat playing with a mouse, then getting to the kill part.

I see that working for us, because you never know who is going to go down to injury, even short term.  Nice to have level 2 with experience beyond mop up.  Good to have these guys on game film for teaching purposes.   Makes it almost sound like our staff wants to develop players and leaders.

So the day after he accepts a plea deal he rapes a girl?

    Holy shit. No words.

According the article, the incident occurred in late August, which makes this plea deal seem interestingly timed.

  11. UT 44-10.   RBs get 212.  Blue pops some long runs.

The 44 score got me to thinking of Cole Pittman and his untimely death.  That NC game they held the score down to 44 in his honor and everyone held it there.  Hard to believe that was over 22 years ago now.  Certainly a "dusty up in here" memory.

  12. Seems to me that the Saudis trying to influence the elections by turning the tap down might bite them in the ass if Biden plays it right.  People are growing more weary and suspicious of O&G due to the extreme weather fluctuations.   Expose them to be the bullies they really are.  Talk about how they take all this wealth from across the world into their countries and build places like Dubai.   They don't even use any of that wealth to help their own countrymen, much less use any of it to help the rest of the planet.    How things like Dubai and Maserati golf carts are obtained on the backs of just not their people, but Americans too.

Get into the program to drill more here, to insulate us from this, while at the same time pivoting to better alternatives.   Instead of riding a dying horse until it collapses and we're stuck in the middle of the badlands, like Mad Max.
