those are pretty embarrassing comments from bill burr.  no one is saying they don't have starbucks, dude.  the issues are a little heavier.  i'm in favor of a bit of a cultural exchange and want to encourage Saudis in taking steps to westernize, so i don't really oppose our comedians doing this stuff.  but he doesn't need to come back here and tell us they are totally on the up and up.  the whitewashing is exactly what everyone's concern was.

Could’ve also gone in the wnba thread

his story is hilarious (he has an absolutely stacked resume full of stuff he never actually did), and all around he just seems like the most regular guy comedian ever. i love his style, just super relatable. his standup special from austin was great. this story of his kills me every time though:

really really like this guy. i hope he becomes a mainstay in austin with joe rogan's new comedy club and running. i saw that he's already performed there once, so maybe it'll happen.

the story in the op and the following story are what got me into shane in the first place. he’s just so funny, and he doesn’t have to try to be.

You've clearly done a deep dive on Shane Gillis. Glad you like him so much.

From my limited view, it has felt like he's tried to ride that line a little bit politically, while also capturing the Barstool sports bro culture. He rose to fame through Joe Rogan's comedy circle and I've seen Gillis on a couple of painfully unfunny Kill Tony episodes that my BIL asked me to watch. I don't like Joe Rogan or the Kill Tony dude. I think they are really shitty. Gillis might be the outlier, but the company you keep kinda matters to me. So I've chosen to not pay much attention to him.

What you described is exactly my problem with Shane Gillis. He's an opportunist and hedges as much as possible.

The dude moved to Austin for the comedy scene, and now spends his time shitting on Austin and the comedy scene. He joined the Rogan circle and now is trying to worm his way out of it. He makes fun of Trump but thinks Trump is hilarious. He doesn't want to lose his Trump supporter frat bros or the "liberals" who aren't hyper aware of the comedy/podcast scene and just see his TV appearances.

what, exactly, did he say there that has y’all posting this? “nick fuentes is funny.” i watched all six minutes and that’s the most damning thing he said. is that it?

Very cool to go on Rogan, bring up Nick Fuentes, and then placate Joe's attempt to normalize him.

man, you are so invested in shane being some hateful conservative, it’s wild. and all it’s doing is having us rehash the same exact argument over and over and over. the guy who doesn’t pay attention to shane gillis keeps coming back to insist that he’s this hateful maga guy, then i allude to the million facts which refute this idea. rinse and repeat.

he just did a whole ass segment on his MSSP podcast about how he can’t stand the holidays anymore because of all of his maga relatives. he shits on maga constantly. he’s openly liberal. accept it. or don’t. but for gods sake, get over this wild crusade to prove that this guy you don’t even follow is someone he’s not. “he went on rogan’s show and then didn’t shut rogan down when rogan tried to normalize nick fuentes!” omg, that definitely means he’s maga and totally trumps every single other thing he’s ever said or done which irrefutably proves he’s not a conservative, or what’s more, maga. yeah right.

also, on this same episode of rogan shane brought up the plaques which trump installed, which rogan hadn’t seen. they pulled them up and read them aloud and talked about how batshit crazy it is. rogan said that this is bad “because it opens the door for democrats to do the same thing when they get in office.” shane replied with, “nobody is going to do what trump is doing.” then rogan yelled back at him that gavin newsome would absolutely put up plaques about trump. of course shane chose not to fight back super hard at this point, because that would be dumb and pointless, so if you watched that clip you’d probably still come away angry and alleging that shane is maga for not pushing back harder.

Your reading comprehension is terrible. I don't think Shane Gillis is a hateful MAGA guy. I think he insincerely straddles the line politically to absorb as many fans as possible. That's been my annoyance with him, this was just another example. I mean, he's still going on Rogan's show??
