Damn. Coffee and French open and Stearns is already bounced?

Not a good day for Longhorns.

Peyton had great wins against top players in Rome and then 💩 the bed in the first round as a seeded player against… are marginal Ukrainian immigrant to Germany with a 59 world ranking.

If Stearns isn’t injured, then this is mind boggling.

Interesting men’s LOSERS on Monday…

•#18 Francisco Cerundolo 🇦🇷

•Stan Wawrinka 🇨🇭

•#4 Taylor Fritz 🇺🇸

•Sebastian Baez 🇦🇷

Stan received a wild card because he is a past champion, but when you are not a big draw and you lose in the first round, that is probably your last wild card.

Baez is about 5’4”, but has brought that Diego Schwartzman vibe on clay the last few years, but his opponent won 6 games in each set.

Fritz has been playing through injuries a lot this year. I think that it has been an abdominal injury. Don’t know if he is still hurt, if he hasn’t played on clay this year, or whether he just wanted to move on to the grass court season… perhaps a combination of things, but he was the #4 seed.

Rinderknech out here shooting his shot, throwing pirouettes and no-looks. Pretty entertaining before Sinner inevitably squashes him.

Sweet jesus, American Emma.

Someone (jokingly 🤷‍♂️) mentioned it regarding Peyton upthread…

Perhaps Stearns was dealing with menstrual cramps

I wonder how many matches are all over the place or are complete surprises due to one day being just an absolutely awful day of cramps/ menstruating 🩸.

I dated an American girl who was traveling the Americas and travel blogging. She didn’t want to be caught in Nicaragua or Ecuador or wherever and need sterile “feminine products”, so she got a prescription for a shot that she gives herself every 3 months and she just didn’t have periods. Nada

That girl never wanted to have kids, so maybe that’s why she was comfortable with that, but I would think that it is an option that professional female athletes should explore. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have crippling cramps on any match day, and especially not during the high paying grand slams.

Anisimova with an 0 and 2 knockout of Golubic in under an hour.  Impressive.  Dolehide plays Ostapenko later.  Interesting to see how fast some of those balls are hit.

Ruud is gone.  Lost the last 2 sets 1 and 0.  TNT just showed the end of the match and said he was dealing with a knee injury.

Apparently winning the first 2 sets can be bad - see Tommy Paul yesterday and today.

I saw that De Minaur vs Bublik score at about 4:55am before going back to sleep and it was in the second set. Just felt like this wasn’t a good matchup for Bublik.

I was NOT expecting that!

And though he appeared to be even or better in roughly every aspect, Munar fails to hold serve when serving at 4-5 in the 5th and the match was over.

Usually in close matches, the winner will win about 1 to 4 more Total Points than the loser of the match.

Here, the winner won 15 FEWER points than the loser!

Katie has a pretty good drop shot and a good forehand, but her serve isn’t great (plus too many double faults) and once Katie had to return a hard shot to her backhand side she was fucked.

Also, Katie may have been a smidgen taller than Maddie. I did not realize that.

TCU vs TCU in Men’s round 3

IMG_0452.thumb.jpeg.eccd2b96f690f86069ec45f5a3785080.jpeg

“The manner in which he quietened* the pro-Wawrinka crowd in an efficient victory stood him in good stead for facing Humbert.

The Roland Garros crowds can be boisterous but Fearnley, whose background in the trash-talking US college game helps ensure he does not get fazed, sapped some of the energy from the home fans in a confident start.”

Good to see our classless street tennis 🎾 is getting its proper respect from the British press.

👏👏👏

*in the USA we use “quieted”, not “quietened”… that’s the first time I have seen that spelling. It may be an error.

Rybakina about to beat JO for the privilege of pounding Iga in the next round.

I wanted Ostapenko to win, because she is undefeated vs Iga, but if Rybakina beats Iga, I will be okay with that.

“37.5%” of the matches are single country matchups, but really half* of them are.

*Putinseva is Moscow born & raised and splits her time between Moscow & Boca Raton. She is less Kazakh than I am Argentine, by a fucking long shot.

I pull for both Kenin & Keys, so the match will be bittersweet.

This French woman is ranked #361 because she has no backhand. Pegula couldn’t figure that out. Maybe Andreeva will in the quarterfinals?

I didn’t watch the match, but in the highlights it appeared that Boisson is not being regularly being drug tested.
