I feel like we should get an extension on this season with the weather what it is. I wanted to close out this weekend, but just lost interest with temps in the 80s. Will take the boys out with their youth license but not sure that we are going to see proper temps even during the extended season.

Supposed to cool down next weekend. It was warm today. Had the AC cranked in the truck as we scouted around the place reviewing some dozer work we had done.

Did find two cool broken arrowheads to add to the collection.

Was guest at a ranch a little north of Rocksprings for New Years. They have been carefully managing 400 or so acres for the last 10 years or so. Still have to rely on neighbors to do the same but it has been working out decently so far. All of these pics are from the front porch of the small ranch house. Was awesome to just sit on the porch drinking beer and not worrying about spooking anything. The real good ones might show for a minute or two to have a bite of corn but the others you couldn’t run off with a bull horn. IMG_4740.jpegIMG_4759.jpegIMG_4714.jpegIMG_4756.jpeg

Blackbuck are neat. Friends place had a buck and few females just show up one season. They’re still out there. Normal fences will contain them. They’re not jumpers. But they will go under. They tilt that head back and knuckle crawl under. Skittish as hell too

Extremely meh season at our lease in East TX as well, and it definitely wasn't due to a lack of hunting or insufficient prep work. We had feeders running well before the season started. Deer never settled into any kind of predictable pattern. Occasionally they'd swing by at feed time, but more often than not would wait until well after dark. Despite showing up on cameras at least 25 different days the past 2 months, not a single one of us ever laid eyes on the big buck roaming our property in the flesh. Even the hogs started avoiding coming out during shooting light.

Consistently above-average temperatures obviously didn't help, and yeah, I have to assume that there were plenty of other food options. Brush still looking like what you'd except to see in early November rather than late December. Not a fan of these La Nina years.

I'm heading up to give it one last stab this weekend, but have little hope of coming home with anything. At least it'll be nice and cool and dry.

As I suspected, weather was nice, but that's about all I can say positive. I sat in 3 different stands across 4 hunts and never saw a deer. My old man tagged along and saw 2 doe Saturday morning. That was it.

Very frustrating season, especially for me. Sat in a stand 11 or 12 times over the course of the season and never once saw a buck come to a feeder (with the exception of a young cull buck on the evening before the season started. Wouldn't have been legal regardless). Rest of the lease didn't fare much better. 1 decent buck, 1 doe, and 3 pigs killed this year, despite guys going out hunting significantly more often than past seasons.

A have several friends that swear by TruLife Taxidermy, here, in Granbury. There are a shitload of taxidermists around, you can probably find someone closer.

This always both amuses me to no end and is also an indication that mother nature is a smart lady.

Mature buck was a feeder whore until mid September and we could set a clock by his morning and evening appearance on the camera.

Hasn't been seen since.....day or night on camera or in person.

Whaddaya know. About 12 hours after season ends Sunday and he's right on time 7:15am on Monday.
