it sucks, but just worry about the AL east and start kicking ass. we need Beni back. Outfield needs the third so they can dance.

And Eduardo joins the party.

Quote

The Boston Red Sox placed infielder Eduardo Nunez on the 10-day injured list with a mid-back strain, retroactive to Thursday, the team announced.

With second baseman Dustin Pedroia and infielder Brock Holt also on the IL, the Red Sox called up infielders Tzu-Wei Lin and Michael Chavis from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Chavis, 23, is making his first appearance on an active major league roster. He is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game.

Taken by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2014 June draft, Chavis has posted a .954 OPS in 12 games with Pawtucket this season, going 10-for-40 (.250) with four home runs, two doubles and seven walks.

He has been on a hot streak lately, homering in three of his past five games, going 7-for-17 (.412) with five extra-base hits in that time. Chavis has made 249 career starts at third base, 14 at shortstop, 12 at first base, and five at second base.

The reeling Red Sox, 6-13 after a two-game sweep by the Yankees, open a three-game series against the East-leading Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Friday.

Helluva win last night. (I was at the game, btw. Seeing the Trop in person is just as underwhelming as you’d think.)

Mikey Chavis is gonna be a player. Cool that he could contribute to a win.

Good read on him:

Bad news about Eovaldi, sounds like surgery is likely, but hopefully it isn’t TJ.

Going for the sweep today. Hey, they already won a series (for the first time this year)!

Successful scope surgery for Eovaldi... he should be back in six weeks.

Dallas Keuchel is apparently open to a 1-year deal.  $20 mil... who says no?

(Probably Keuchel's agent)

With our pitching woes there's no reason to not go after Kuechel for a 1 year deal.  Or really even a 2 year deal.

Chavis is the charm.

Kidding, but love to see a rookie play a role.

Bats waking up? Did Leon show up and say fuck you Jobu?

Above .500!

After a historically shitty start, the Red Sox:
- Have won each of their last 3 series
- Are 8-2 in their last 10 games
- Lead the AL in runs (52) and OBP (.368) in May
- Own MLB’s 2nd-lowest ERA since 4/24 (2.76)
- Have a 3.22 starting pitcher ERA since 4/12 (4th-lowest in MLB)
- Lead the AL with 9.99 SO/9.0 IP

(stats not counting tonight’s curb stomping)

MLB rankings since 4/29 (convenient, I know):

Win % – BOS 1st (.800, 12-3), HOU 2nd (.750, 12-4)

Run Diff – BOS 1st (+63), HOU 2nd (+59)

Runs/Game – BOS 1st (7.3), HOU 2nd (7.1)

OBP – BOS 1st (.382), HOU 2nd (.364)

HR/Game – HOU 1st (2.4), BOS T-2nd (1.9)

Don't forget Alex Bregman.....

Alex Bregman puts target on Red Sox: "No other city" he'd like to beat

"They got the better of us. A few of the guys on our team were banged up. That’s not an excuse. They played really well, played really good baseball. They’re well-coached. They've got a ton of good players.

But after watching the Patriots win, watching the Red Sox beat us last year -- there's no other city that I'd like to beat this year more than Boston."

Put that shit up in the locker room.

Glad for Workman to get his first save.

The Sox clearly aren’t as good as the Astros right now, but hopefully they stay hot thru the week (when the Sox visit Houston).

Kind of a fun interdivisional rivalry they got going.

Now, onto Toronto for four. 3 of 4 there is attainable.

Mookie Betts is good at baseball.

Also, Raffy Devers is still only 22 years old. That’s crazy. His May so far:

.350/.391/.625 with 6 homers, 10 XBH, and 10 Ks in 80 PAs.

Probably should’ve waited to post that. My jinx juju still works, apparently.

*If* Pedey is ever cleared, what do they do? Clearly can’t sit Chavis. Do you just sit JBJ until the 7th inning of every game with a lead?

Fun fact:

The last time the Sox hit multiple go-ahead HR in extra innings of the same game was Apr. 29, 1951 at Philadelphia (Dom DiMaggio-11th, Tom Wright-12th).

That’s a BIG if.

Honestly, you keep the young, hot bat in there until it gets cold.

If Pedroia miraculously comes back, he’s going to have to be eased back ever so gently. Maybe he just becomes a $15mil/year bench guy.

Hell, he did even less last year and it somehow worked out.

But for now, let’s keep riding that ICE HORSE!

He played 3 games last year, that won’t work again. He has zero positional flexibility, so he’s not a viable bench piece.

Per Pete Abraham:

Very nice of the Astros to pay tribute to Nick Cafardo. Their media relations director Gene Dias went to the same HS as Nick (Whitman-Hanson) and they were good buddies.

Now, let’s get a win tonight. I refuse to believe Wade Miley will stay *this* good over the course of the whole season.

I’m going to the game Sunday (E-Rod vs -gulp- Verlander), and might end up snagging tickets for Saturday as well.

This weekend is the last time these teams will meet this (regular) season. Go Sox.

Well, at least Xander tried to make up for such a shitty night defensively.

This Sox team just can’t find that fifth gear. They’re good, but not on the ‘Stros level (for now, at least).

Sounds like the Pedey dilemma won’t matter.

Quote

The Red Sox are shutting down injured second baseman Dustin Pedroia after he suffered a setback during a Double-A rehab game Friday. Boston will reevaluate Pedroia, whose oft-problematic left knee sent him to the injured list April 18, on Monday. Manager Alex Cora admitted this is “another red flag” for the 35-year-old Pedroia, who appeared in a meager three games during the Red Sox’s World Series-winning 2018 campaign and has only played in six this season. He remains a ways off from potentially factoring back into Boston’s lineup, Cotillo observes. If there’s a silver lining to Pedroia’s absence, it’s the emergence of second baseman Michael Chavis, a 23-year-old rookie who has taken the position and run with it so far.

Defense and intuitive baserunning haven’t been the Sox strength these last two games.

Don’t get swept? Please???

Also, Darwinzon got called up. Bullpen could definitely use a strong, young lefty this season.

had some minor surgery yesterday and that is what the fucking bullpen gives me to be in a good mood?

God that sucked.

Chris Sale is still good. Immaculate, even.

(Joins Lefty Grove as the only other pitcher to throw two immaculate innings in one season.)

Oh, and he threw a shutout. Does MLB still keep track of that stat?
