Someone from the fat person thread asked for this to be a separate thread, so I thought I'd go ahead and share. A lot of this stuff is probably going to be me journaling to myself, but having it in public will hopefully give me a bit of accountability to stick with what I'm supposed to be doing. I imagine this thread will have my linear journey, what I'm eating, how I'm exercising, what it's costing me, how much of a pain in the ass it is to prepare and do what I'm supposed to do, my thoughts and feelings and if anyone wants to share, ask questions, encourage, add insights, make suggestions etc I hope that happens as well. I'm going to try to commit to posting every day as my journal. If that's interesting to you cool, hope you enjoy (in the same vein as I shared all my shortcomings and screw ups on my RV around the country thread. If that's not interesting to you then my God, why the hell did you click on this link- it's not like I titled it tit pics and free beer? My promise is that you will get the authentic me and if I step on a rake you will hear about it. This isn't some sort of self aggrandizement thread- I hope it will help me be accountable and I hope it will help out some lurkers or other posters along the way with encouragement. Or amuse. Anyway- not everything will be as long as the first couple posts which is just going to sort of set the stage for how I got to where I'm at currently and how I feel about that.22 points

The Athletic has a note today about the IMG Academy's Under Armour camp. Apparently Jerrick Gibson's dad is recruiting for Texas and was urging Oklahoma native and 5-star defensive lineman David Stone to give Texas some strong consideration.17 points

Jerrick Gibson's dad in an interview with 247: βCoach Choice man,β Jenkins added. βI think if Iβm not mistaken he was Jerrickβs second offer. When it comes to somebody showing you we want you, I give Texas and Coach Choice and Coach Sark A-plusses. They build a relationship and they stay consistent. They stay on it. I'm an alcoholic who also got addicted to opioids back in the early 00's and wound up on methadone for 7 years, which I discovered went really, really well when combined with booze and cocaine. My point is, even a severe opioid addiction doesn't turn someone into a sociopath who murders his own child and the child's mom. Lots of addicts steal to support their habits. But if you steal $9 million from your law firm and even more than that from clients who have been wronged/injured, and blow your son's head off with a shotgun and then gun down your wife, it's not because you're an addict. It's because your a full blown psychopath whose schemes aren't working anymore. The opioid addiction was used as gigantic straw man in this case.11 points

That's unfortunate as I like to shit in thier restrooms, it's kind of my go to. I'm an 0700 pooper. But my kid needs to be dropped off anytime from 0645 to 0900. Which leaves me pooping all over town. Walgreens is a pretty good choice as it's clean and freshly opened. Home Depot is terrible choice. Hotels are a power move11 points

The thing I think even our rivals can understand, that these absolute lunatics on the aggie boards do not, is that Texas is fucking tired of being big target and water carrier. OU on some level is in the same boat. There's fatigue at the AD level. People are genuinely relieved to be heading to a conference that top to bottom can wash its own face across numerous sports. No one at Texas expects to win everything all of the time in the SEC, but everyone paying attention expects Texas to continue to win at a national level in every sport except football and women's soccer, and those are expected to get their shit together. That pressure and use of resources, with all of our other competitive advantages, does lead to the expectation that Texas should be winning the Director's Cup or finishing near the top every year. That's not entitlement, but a realization that results short of that means people at Texas aren't doing their job. That's due to the thinking that Texas is about to have every single competitive advantage possible now that it is also enabling for the payment of players across sports.10 points

I long ago realized that "school choice" is code for "school Christian." The family's goal is kids raised on creationism and all kinds of anti-science idiocy, fact-free faith, and bogus world history. The GQP and Christian leadership goal is a nation ruled by the Bible, not the Constitution or any other secular ideas. Soon they'll be teaching that Jesus lassoed dinosaurs and convened with "Ancient Aliens" in the "Garden of Eden" on a flat earth created by "God" 6,000 years agoβall for the Christians to rule. Hell, that's probably on page one of their "history" book. The attack on secular education began with Reagan and Falwell and the "Moral Majority." The trajectory goes like this: Moral Majority (1980s) >>> United We Stand (1990s) >>> Tea Party (2000s) >>> MAGA (2010s-2020s). We can laugh and roll our eyes, but make no mistake: GQP's end goal is an iron-fisted fascist theocracy for Flat Earth America.10 points

Growing up through Jr. High and high school was probably pretty similar. Not fat, but on the edge. I graduated from High School at 6'1" 185. That's skinny for a full grown adult but probably 30 pounds heavier than many/most high school kids at graduation. Played golf. Made it to state (old AAA classification), was fairly active in that sense. College- put on the freshman 15- hit 200- would never get back under that number Law School- 225 or 230. Did a summer with the Army jag core with heavy exercise and decent eating and was probably the smallest in my adult life. 220 pounds or so that summer. Got married. Had a miserable relationship. Ate. Lots and lots. Did nothing. Drank. Quit smoking and dipping (more or less) b/c she made me. Ate some more. Hit 300 or so by the time I was 26 or 27. Got divorced. Ate a little less but not a lot less. I would stay there until now- with yoyo's up and down where I'd do really well for 3 months and get down to 260 or 250 (once got as low as 244) and then lose motivation, self destruct and end up back at 300. But really it would be 305. Then after the next cycle it was 310. Then 315. Finally- after this last time it was 320. Always had good numbers though. Hiked 5 miles with my kids when they wanted to. Swim for hours at a time in the ocean. Didn't stop me from doing stuff but it took a ton of effort to get it done, and obviously looked like a fat sack of shit while doing it out there. Lately, my numbers suck, my blood pressure is up, anxiety is high, I've been having shortness of beath and then, the insomnia. I have a wife who I dearly love, 3 kids 12 and under- and I didn't want to leave them alone. So, decided to get this done. Had a really rough existential crisis for 2 months while I tortured through this decision. What if it doesn't work? What if it works really well and now all of a sudden I'm a different person and my wife and I grow apart? What if I can't keep dime pieces from throwing themselves at me? What if I hit my ideal weight and then die of a car crash- what a waste that would be? Just all sorts of stuff, both trivial and important. But, food was my addiction. Just like the people in the Alcoholics thread (which I've read a ton of and really really relate to. I couldn't (and quite likely still can't) image life being enjoyable without the ability to watch a UT game while housing a large Papa Johns and drinking a 12 pack of Meeeeler Lite. Or hanging out on the backporch with my wife until 2 in the morning while crushing a pack of Marlboro Lights and drinking 15 OZ of scotch. It's not that I do those things all the time- it's just I can't imagine a life where I'm not physically able to do those things. And that took a long time to wrap my mind around before I decided to have the surgery. But, I can tell you it wasn't easy and it scared (and still does) me to death. This kind of surgery is funny. Everyone has an opinion on it when you tell them you are going to do it. Or knows someone that did it. I think the thoughts range somewhere from, wow- that's awful courageous- I can't imagine making that kind of commitment, to what a coward- why can't he just exercise a little self control and push himself away from the table? The thing is - after living in this body for 44 years I don't know the answer to that question. I wish I did, but it's just something that feels like it's beyond me. I feel like I have a compulsion to eat until I'm full. Why Is that? I personally think it's a spiritual battle with me but I don't want to go into that at this point in time right now b/c it's not likely productive. All I know is that when I have cheating dreams it's not about a movie star or my secretary it's about a large pizza. You could trust me with the keys to Fort Knox and I wouldn't take a cent. Scarlett J could hit on me and I'd laugh at her b/c I love my wife and have no interest. You make a ribeye, mashed potatoes, buttered rolls, Pecan Pie and ice cream and tell me I can eat all I want? I'm making 3 laps through that set up. I've gone years at a time without drinking and you could tell me to have 2 drinks and stop and I'd be able to do it without a problem. I can take it or leave it and it means nothing to me. But put me in front of the China Lake Buffet and I'm powerless man. The thing that sucks about being fat is (at least in my case) I wear around the worst part of me for all the world to see. I'm a boring dude. I love UT sports. I go to work and do a good job there. I take care of my family. I'm a loving father and husband. I put other people before myself. I'm not an addict to drugs or alcohol or abusive. I'm not perfect but gluttony is by far my biggest shame. And the world gets to see it all. Those of you who beat your wives or have a coke problem or embezzle funds or lie or are just generally shitty people get to go through life without every random stranger seeing you and knowing exactly what your biggest source of shame is. But not me. I have no idea how that affects me. Has it caused me to be more authentic in every way? Likely. What secret am I hiding? That I'm fat? Can't hide that. Weird. My pros and cons list: Cons- Can't pig out. Likely not a good idea to ever drink again, have to quit smoking, change the balance of relationship with my wife and family (and any change could be worse) as I change who I am, cost, pain, permanent life changing shit that comes with chances of becoming lactose intolerant, dumping, can't ever eat certain food again blah blah blah. I built this list up a mile high in my mind. Also- decent sized risk of dying on the table or in the first 30 days of recovery (like 1 in 500 maybe? 1 in 850?) Pro's- If I don't die on the table it probably adds 15 years to my life. It should make me a better father and husband and be there for my kids. My insomnia and breathing are scaring the shit out of me and this should fix them. Pro's won the list but juuuuuuuuuust barely. I didn't want to do this thing. Just felt like it was something that I HAD to do b/c I have never been able to succeed any other way so it was time to "burn the ships" Next- what is the surgery9 points

Barstool SEC @SECBarstool I just saw a full view of the proposed SEC permanent opponents Texas and Texas A&M were not permanent opponents in the scenario that I viewed, and I was told that A&M voting to allow Texas into the SEC was contingent on Texas not being a permanent opponent. Ridiculous if true I cannot confirm this to be 100% true, and calling out A&M is not the point of this tweet at all, but itβs clear thereβs some underlying factors between A&M & Texas given the fact they never play. These need to be resolved, & they need to play every year as rivals in the SEC8 points

Honestly, big story at the time but, since announced, it hasn't really been discussed a bunch on the Arkansas boards. We have enough shit to deal with. And there's a wide range of opinions on it, but none that are scared that Texas is going to start big dicking everyone in the SEC. I'm not trying to say that in an insulting way, I just don't think anyone thinks that's possible. I'm sure Texas will have their years, but its now 16 schools, most of whom are fully committed to athletics. Its highly competitive and I don't know what leverage Texas would have to start "big dicking" anyone. Texas is going to be a great addition in football, basketball and baseball to go along with a lot of great football, basketball and baseball programs already in the SEC. So you get opinions ranging from "this is good for the SEC, more $$ for us" to "Anything that hurts A&M is good" to "I'm looking forward to renewing the rivalry every season" to "they're going to get their shit pushed in" to "Great, Texas is rolling on the schedule, now maybe Bama will roll off?" That said, I think it's universally thought that OU is fucking up big time. They will probably end up closer to Arkansas. Collecting a big check but competing every year with a lot of programs that have every built in advantage possible.8 points

What a spectacular fall from grace. Remind me to never fuck with opioids. I know this, for myself and everyone else, if you get yourself in trouble, make some bad decisions, whatever - put down the shovel and stop digging your hole deeper. Just admit you fucked up, commit to doing better and making amends. The sooner the better. Shit will suck for a little while, but you can ultimately get your life back and maybe better.8 points
