Presented for consideration… “Gringo Birria.” Simmer a package of Del Real Birria from Costco. It’s in the pre-packaged fridged foods section. Toast up those tortillas from Costco. Y’all know the ones… Dunk toasted tortilla in the Birria grease. Twice. Load up the now glistening tortilla with the simmered beef and cheese. Fry it off. Both sides, obviously. Serve with Valentina’s and ice cold beer. “But Dutch. Just one? TF, bro?!” You eat the the cooked one while the next tortilla is toasting, thus ensuring maximum flavor.12 points

Here's the... um.... the thing from IT with the.... um..... I'm sorry, can we get a name there Treaty Oak? Humidor: Thursday’s practice started off in line with what you’d expect ahead of the Spring game on Saturday. It was a little slower paced and coaching driven. But it eventually spun into a spirited thud tempo scrimmage replete with trash talk and some minor skirmishes. Just a bunch of guys being dudes. It was a competitive day. Today they’ll do a walk-through and of course tomorrow is the scrimmage that signifies the end of Spring ball. I have no idea what we’ll learn from the scrimmage but below we’ll share what we’ve learned from practice thus far through the eyes of quality sourcing. Quarterback How improved is Quinn Ewers? The source stated the second-year quarterback transformed everything, not just his body. He transformed his mind, his knowledge of the playbook, reading defenses, etc. “Based on Spring he went from a rookie to a veteran.” There are a lot of examples throughout the Spring of Ewers making plays with his head, not just his arm, said the source. Running Back Who was the best running back this Spring? One source had to hesitate and think about this one. Since Jonathon Brooks has been back, he’s been the best, but he really liked Cedric Baxter and had good things to say about Savion Red and Jaydon Blue. He was trying not to cop out and went with Baxter of the three who practiced all of Spring. He mentioned Red looked really good but it was hard to get a real barometer because he was with the second team more often than not. Brooks and Baxter are the most complementary duo of the five potential starters so that’s a good sign. Wide Receiver Who was the best wide receiver throughout the Spring? “I don’t know if he was the best but AD Mitchell was the most noticeable. Maybe because he was new. He really showed up. You can tell he’s experienced and athletic and he can make difficult catches look easy.” The source didn’t have a negative thing to say about the receivers other than there were a couple practices with too many drops. There were also some practices where the receivers displayed strong hands. The source is very bullish on Johntay Cook and DeAndre Moore. Tight End Is Ja’Tavion Sanders improved in any way? “It’s hard to tell because he made such a big leap last offseason and followed it up with a really strong year. There certainly wasn’t a drop off.” How is Gunnar Helm as a receiver? “He can get the job done. He has pretty good hands and moves well enough. He uses his size well as a receiver. He’s a solid receiver. He’s not JT but there aren’t many JT’s.” Offensive Line Who was the best interior offensive lineman this Spring? Hayden Conner was the first mentioned as having a good Spring. The source indicates Conner is improved and will likely start. Jake Majors also received notice for being “steady Jake Majors.” How have the tackles looked? “Kelvin Banks is better than last year and dominates whoever he goes up against. Christian Jones has looked really good, too. He’s had the ability, he’s just way more consistent these days.” Edge Who were the best two, whether Jack or Buck? Barryn Sorrell and Ethan Burke. The source mentioned Sorrell is a better version of his 2022 self, mainly through additional strength. “Burke is a savvy football player. He knows how to use his strengths to his advantage.” By this he meant Burke will use length and quickness to not just get after the pass rush, but also to set the Edge. He can set the Edge without brute force (that doesn’t mean he’s a finished product or getting the best of Banks/Jones). Interior Defensive Line Who was the best iDL this Spring? “Byron Murphy, hands down. He’s tough to move, he’s tough to keep blocked, he’s great taking on double teams, he’s great against the run.” The source is bullish on Murphy having a breakout year. Linebacker What’s the likelihood David Gbenda wins the job and has a good year? “It’s his to lose. Morice Blackwell has been good and Anthony Hill has improved a lot throughout the Spring, maybe even more than anyone on the team, but Gbenda’s experience gives him a big advantage.” All three will play with Blackwell and Hill also getting looks at Sam. “Blackwell is fast and physical. Even though he isn’t big he’s strong. Hill has the total package, he just needs more time.” The source has said enough about the way Hill prepares to make me think he’s destined for very big things at Texas because we know he has the physical and athletic ability. Safety Who was the best safety? After hesitating, “That’s tough. Kitan Crawford shined the most and showed what he can be if he remains consistent. Jerrin Thompson picked up where he left off last year and still brings a lot to the table. He’s not as spectacular as Crawford but he’s more consistent. If you went by pure production, Michael Taaffe probably was around the ball or ball carrier the most. He had a pick on Thursday as well as some breakups.” This source has always been a fan of Crawford’s upside and Taaffe’s underrated ability. He was the first person to say Taaffe would be a scholarship player at Texas. Cornerback Who was the best and second best? More hesitation, followed by a surprise answer. “They all play differently, except maybe Gavin Holmes and Malik Muhammad. They’re somewhat similar. The most exciting was probably Muhammad. He’s just a savvy player with a pro mindset. Ryan Watts had a good camp. Terrance Brooks is just so athletic. Gavin’s not far behind if at all. It’s hard to pick between those four. I’ll say Muhammad has been playing at a high level. He doesn’t know he’s a freshman. It’s a very competitive room.” Despite depth and experience at the position, Muhammad has a chance to start as a freshman. ***** We don’t know how the teams are comprised for the Spring game but we do expect them to be divided pretty equally. The coaching staff will also be divided and I’d bet bragging rights will be on the line. We’ll see if Sark games his own system and gives himself Ewers.12 points

Update…. We went up to MD Anderson in mid February and spent three days up there meeting with the Oncology team and surgeon and before those sessions they did more diagnostic work to confirm what the preliminary work showed from the lab and diagnostics in Corpus . I can tell you MD Anderson earns its reputation. We were seen on time or earlier than the scheduled time and every visit during the process was not rushed. They took their time with us and answered all questions and put all the options on the table and timelines. Initially it looked like they were going to do the surgery first to remove the lump, but the Oncologist was concerned about a particular marker her cancer showed that could cause the cancer to accelerate. So she decided to take the option to do the chemotherapy first and then sometime in August have the tumor removed. She had her first treatment at MD Anderson in early March and we were fortunate a Oncologist down here has a relationship with MD Anderson to coordinate treatments so we don’t have to drive to Houston every other week during this first phase. Next month the second phase of the chemo begins which requires a weekly visit, but instead of a three hour session, it’s supposed to be shorter. We still have to go up there for a check up every six weeks until surgery. She began to lose her hair after her second treatment which was a blow to her, but she knew was coming and prepared for it. She did her third treatment today, so she is hoping it’s rinse and repeat from the prior two where the fatigue and other yuck does it’s worse over the weekend and Monday she begins a rebound She works from home and her boss pretty much told her to rest when ever she needs to rest and she has treatment days off which are on Thursday and the following Friday for the duration if she feels the need to take the entire day off. If everything goes as the plan stands now, she will have surgery in August. Since no lymph nodes are involved, the surgery itself will not be as invasive. They will also be able to do the reconstructive surgery after the lump is removed and do the other side to make sure things match if you know what I mean and all covered by her health insurance. It’s about time that sort of thing was covered for women and I wish it was back in the 80s when my mom went through breast cancer. Never understood why losing any other body part would get covered, but not a women’s breast which is very much a vital part for women was never treated the same. The upside with doing the chemo first as well is the cancer should all be gone and no follow up chemo or radiation will be necessary. She has the surgery and it’s done! I can’t say again how super the folks are at MD Anderson. The University of Texas should be proud to have its name and legacy attached with such a wonderful facility. They will be on my charity contribution list from this point forward. Texans and others who don’t have the means should not have this option excluded from them because of circumstances. Thanks again for all who have commented and reached out!10 points

Perry's brain was rotted by hate-filled propaganda. Hopefully people begin to recognize that hate-filled rhetoric that dehumanizes "others," promotes division, and promotes violence should stop and then decide to make personal changes. Turn off fox news. Turn off political talk radio. Stop voting for assholes who promote hate. Leave facebook and twitter. Stop browsing breitbart. Leave social media echo chambers. If your friend parrots hate, call him out. If you see hate on social media, call it out. Understand anecdotal evidence is not representative of a sample, often cherry picked, and used by propagandists against you. Try and understand your cognitive bias. Understand tribalism is in your DNA and propagandists are using it against you. When you experience anger, fear, or anxiety when consuming media, ask yourself if you are being shaped by a propagandist. Teach your children and those around you how to understand and protect themselves from propaganda.9 points

JWST has been busy (as have I unfortunately...causing a delay in some worthwhile updates). a beautiful picture of NGC 1365. nice detail on the "bar" part of a double-barred spiral galaxy formation about 56 million light years away from us in mid-infrared. incredible to get resolution to individual stars in the core and newly-formed clusters in the inner star formation ring. ngc 1433. also mid-infrared. crazy double ringed structure that appears to be a bar from a distance nestled in the rest of the galaxy. this one is 46 million light years and has a supermassive black hole at its center that is hungry AF and consumes material at an astounding rate. wr 124 star in both near infrared and mid-infrared composite. the stellar emissions are not smooth for this star but instead somewhat randomized as betrayed by the stellar dust cloud surrounding it. the one you've all been waiting for...uranus. in near infrared both zoomed in and a wider field. something cool about this is that you can see the polar cap on the planet because, just as a reminder, uranus is the only planet that is tilted entirely on its side and rotates on that basis and causing rather extremes seasons. you're effectively looking at its "north pole." the two other bright spots on the planet are not lens flares but actually clouds. supernova (or exploding star) remnant we all know as cassiopeia a in mid infrared...this is about ten light years across. never has extreme violence been so beautiful. another comparison of jwst with hubble and their relative sensitivity. the same deep field that took over 11 days of exposure time on hst vs. .83 days on jwst. significant disparity in sensitivity to say the least. finally, super cool spectroscopy result on an exoplanet about 40 light years away called vhs 1256b. this planet orbits two stars at once which is unique. this is showing what the composition of the planet's clouds in its atmosphere. i'll put the full explanation of its findings below in spoiler.8 points

Got to play the Tennessean last night for a couple hours before bed, and... holy fuck, trial's over, it's a keeper. It took awhile to get a tone I like playing over a few different backing tracks. The pups want to be kind of dark and muddy, so I don't know if they'll last, but as far as being an ultra-playable electric spanglish type with the neck I'm after? Yeah, it works. Anyway, here's what it sounds like...8 points
