  1. Don't ever apologize for being proud of the things you didn't actually do. The imaginary sacrifices you never made are things that can never be taken away from you. When the heat was on and the fat was in the fire, you articulated bravery from a chair. Thank you.

  2. Hypocrisy would be being inured by a falling tree limb, getting a large structured settlement that still pays you to this day, and then dedicating your career to making sure no one else can ever be properly compensated for an injury, or medical malpractice. Just so we're clear on what hypocrisy actually looks like.

  7. Hahahahahahaha hahahahahaha hahahahahaha hahahahaha Conservatives fix problems...haha hahaha haha haha haha.... They CREATED this. They love it. They created a law where an armed grown man can stalk a kid and then shoot them once confronted, and they celebrated. They celebrate another young man with an underdeveloped brain, with a weapon he wasn't allowed to possess, shot and killed two people. Then they posed with these people as heroes. They celebrate the storming of the United States Capitol building and the murder of two police officers and numerous other injuries because they lost an election. They wanted their fellow Americans to die because they vote differently. They celebrate the kidnapping and trafficking of illegals. The ripping of families apart. Their buddies charging the state hundreds/day to house people in a tent or thousands for a greyhound ticket. They want you to vote for them for protection from the dystopian world they created.

  10. It's incredibly frustrating to see the arguments and desire to profile every mass shooter in order to make an entirely different political argument. It doesn't matter if a gunman is a transsexual leftist or a neo-Nazi Trump lover. Labeling people and trying to dig for personal motives is pointless and gets us nowhere. Frankly, this is what pro-gun people want. To muddy the waters and deflect from the main issue. And we all fall for it every time. This is simply about a hugely populated society that cannot safely co-exist with blatant and easy gun ownership. Let's not complicate things.

  11. So I came to find out today that 3 of the victims are my former employer’s best friends. The mom was covering her 6 year son and he survived. The mom, along with the dad and their 3 year son were shot dead. Only the 6 year old survived. I’m pretty certain I met them 5 years ago at my old bosses wedding. This is pretty fucked up. They had just celebrated the 6 year olds birthday and were out shopping. Fuck your guns. They need to be banned.

  12. We're a bunch of anonymous assholes on a website with the word "surly" in the domain. The undisputed leader of the republican party mocked a disabled journalist on stage as a candidate which accelerated him to the white house. Abbot is human garbage who, in addition to his tort reform hypocrisy, rose to power by treating "others" like disposable pawns in his parties game of partisan politics. He deserves any and all mockery coming his way. Fuck him.

  13. anyone laying any blame on the truck driver is a fucking idiot. to those saying he could have saved more lives, the fucking guy had already mowed down an entire family before he even had a chance to get out of his parking spot. the blame is on the shooter, the gun, and the politicians who are in the NRA's pocket edited to add: blame is also on all of you pussies who love guns more than anything else

  14. If I got my kids in the car, it’s 100% I’m out of there. Solo, probably 80% chance. No way I’m judging anyone for fleeing in that situation. Always think back to ROT in 2019 at the Expo. We were in our usual RV spot about 11p watching the constant ‘parade’ of drunks navigate the S-turn in front of us when a golf cart with two women standing in the back flips over. One woman in particular hits her head so hard I can hear it over the constant roar. Not gonna YGIFS this, so short version is only myself and one other ran up to help…everyone else (dozens) watched. Pointing directly at a person and telling them to call 911, as you’re taught, they just stared. Had to pull out my own phone and do it myself while trying to see if she was breathing. I was amazed at the bystander effect. Everyone reacts differently, self preservation kicks in.

  16. This was the Soviet model of development. Remember that even farms in the Soviet Union were collectivized, there was no need to stay on “your” plot of land. Soviet city planning preferred space for leisure and activity to be public, not private, allegedly to foster a sense of solidarity and community. They had to allow a small nod to individual space in the form of the dacha— a small cottage with no electricity or water and a plot for a garden. This was mostly to relieve pressure on a planned economy that could not provide enough food via the kolkhoz system. These buildings are khrushchevki or brezhnevki, pre-fab concrete panel blocks of apartments built to respond to union wide housing shortages and a drive to remake cities and villages along a more modern “Soviet” model of big grid avenues, neighbourhood parks, all connected by rail and highway. Eastern European towns occupy a much smaller footprint than American towns of a similar size. But they feel more inhuman than similar size Central or Western European towns with private homes ringing public squares with churches and few lower-rise apartments for town dwellers. The Commies erected similar eyesores outside town centers around the former Pact in a drive to create “new” towns allegedly superior to the old ones. And, this method of village and town planning is indicative of the ways Russian imperialism imposed itself on Ukrainian’s physical space. Russia, pre-Revolution, had a real tradition of non-state collective farming among free peasants, a reaction to the tougher growing conditions and more hostile environment. This was foreign to Ukraine, where free peasants almost always had their own land to work.

  20. This goes back to even (at least) Roman times. One big reason that the Legions rolled over not just barbarians, but more sophisticated foes, was that every night they bedded down in a familiar, orderly, temporarily fortified camp where they ate and went to sleep while their opponents shivered in the cold. Roman generals factored in the time and supplies to build a camp when campaigning.

  21. I continue to assume that "conservative" America will choose the opposite side of any issue espoused by moderates and progressives. It simply doesn't matter if, in their heart, they agree . . . it's completely us VS them. I don't believe for a minute every Republican has a gun fetish, that they don't see the rationale in higher minimum age for purchase, multi-day waiting periods, red flag laws, closed loopholes. I don't believe it. There are plenty who, in another world, would support some or most of those policies. They won't support them in this environment because that would mean aligning with "them" and that's just not acceptable. It's maddening, and there is nothing that can be done about it.

  24. The key thing to understand in these discussions is that the person playing the role of Anastasis, pretending not to be a bigot but just insisting the scientific evidence isn’t there yet, is doing the same thing the “oh your fetus has a fatal birth defect and you will die without an abortion but you’re not in septic shock yet so come back when you are and maybe you can have an abortion then” guy is doing.

  25. Maybe, but not likely. Guns, particularly high capacity, semi-auto rifles, are unique in how easy they make mass murder. As a practical matter, it's much harder to rack up a similar body count with a knife. People can run away and you're more likely to get stopped by someone physically resisting you. As a logistical matter, it's much harder to build a bomb without the feds catching you (and without accidentally blowing your own dumb ass up in the process). This guy was overwhelmingly unlikely to do something like this with a knife or a bomb. One, he was a skinny little pussy who would've been much more likely to get his shit stomped in had he not had a gun. Two, he seems to have been pretty stupid so likely never would've figured out how to build a bomb or would've easily gotten himself caught by the feds Googling bomb making material. Yet, despite being discharged from the Army for being a loon, he had no problem buying multiple guns. Everyone has got to ditch the "nothing can be done about this because evil people do evil" shit. It's just not fucking true.

  26. Silly fuckers must not remember Chosin. A Marine regiment, an Army combat team, and a battalion of Brits wiped something like three entire Chinese divisions off the map. Not depleted them enough that they had to pull back and reconstitute for a year, they ceased to exist. And the UN forces also mauled two or three more divisions enough that they had to be pulled out of the line. Silly fuckers.

  39. 1)senseless mass casualty events are a daily occurrence 2)we are absolutely more divided than we were when my parents were growing up in the 60's. people lived in their own little bubbles back then. now thanks to 24 hour "news" networks plus facebook and twitter we have tens of millions of radicalized citizens who are armed to the teeth, scared to death of everyone around them, and who have been brainwashed into believing that their preferred political party is their tribe, and that their tribe is at war with their libtard neighbors and family members. hence the attempted insurrection on our nation's capitol, carried out by cosplaying fucking sheep (so ironic) who believe they were sent by donald trump to do God's work by killing our democracy over a "stolen election". no, we were not that divided in the 60's. thinks about this: hanging an american flag from your house or truck in the 60's simply meant that you loved your country. brandishing an american flag on your vehicle or home is now a symbol of hate, a brand new "COME AND FUCKING TAKE IT!!!" flag. again, we are fucking pathetic.
