The recruiting dynamic in the state of Texas is changing. More and more the best players the state produces are looking away from Texas and Texas A&M and are looking at what’s building in Lubbock.15 points

Christ - some of you seem to think this is some sort of rational-take discussion. This is the kool-aid, dipshit-holdout hope-freebasing thread. This is the thread where we get Saban fired. You're either in or out.10 points

So, here is my Jimmy Buffett story. There was a highly disrespectful and questionable Carnival Krewe called the Krewe of Clones. It was mostly made up of French Quarter residents- with lots of artists and degenerates like myself thrown in. (it eventually morphed into the Krewe du Vieux after the Krewe of Clones was made the target of an attempt to clean up carnival for the tourist by the city…to no avail I might add) Anyway, It was either 1983 or 1984 that our theme was “Apocalypse New Orleans”. I was costumed as a giant cockroach accompanying our Krewe’s King on his Royal Float. That king was Jimmy Buffett. I was very familiar with Buffet, as in the early and mid-70s at the University of Florida Jimmy Buffett played a large number of concerts at UF put on by the student government. We heard Jimmy so much people were complaining that he always played. His music always evoked 1970s Florida to me, and I was a big fan, and very happy to be a royal cockroach on his float. About two in the morning for reasons unknown, Jimmy, the queen of the Krewe, two uptown debutantes who were fellow cockroaches, and myself, all got in a limousine and went to the French Quarter bar - Cosimos - with what was the best jute box in the Quarter. At some point there was a dance and lip-synch contest to Darrin’s Mac the Knife between Jimmy and myself. According to the bartender, I won. According to the wanna be groupie debutantes, Jimmy won. But those hoes were like Soviet era ice-skating judges as the arbiters on the contest. I wish I could say I went home with one of the debutantes, but apparently I was over-served to the point I passed out But it was carnival, so a person dressed like a giant cockroach laying in the gutter passed out was not really an unusual event. Rest in peace, Jimmy9 points

Yeah if you like a boat, island, sailing kinda vibe, it’s hard not to have his music on regular rotation. my boys and I turn up any one of a dozen songs on the way back to the marina. My boys have gone from riding along as green ears to driving the boat and making sure we had him on. he’s our family sunset music… standard view riding back…9 points

I hate this take: "many of you panicked early." Did anyone really see anything in the second half that made you think the concerns are overblown? We have an offensive guru who apparently likes the deep ball, and a QB who simply can't hit it for whatever reason and the coach either doesn't see it, doesn't believe what he sees, or I suspect doesn't have the stomach to make a hard decision. Sark is more friend than hard-nosed coach. Great for a coordinator, not sure it works for this team and the culture that has been here.8 points

With all the hand wringing about the offense, the defense allowed 64 yards in the half and took it away twice. I don't care who you're playing -- that's badass.8 points

He Went to Paris is one of the most beautiful songs ever written in my opinion. listened to it on loop this morning over a couple cold 24 oz Yellowbellies due to the shocking nature of waking up to find out he was gone. he’s not my favorite musician, but the memories of his music intertwined with the different facets of life is what weaves him so closely to many of us. Hurts as bad as waking up to feed my oldest her 2 hour milk at 3 am only to find out we’d lost Jerry Jeff. RIP legend8 points

Rip Jimmy. The lyrics below from A pirate Looks at 40 are fantastic. Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late The cannons don’t thunder, there’s nothing to plunder I’s and over-forty victim of fate Arriving too late, arriving too late I’ve done a bit of smuggling, I’ve run my share of grass I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast Never meant to last, never meant to last.8 points

This hurts for me!! My brothers and I grew up on Jimmy Buffett, first listening to his 8 tracks and then there wasn’t a road trip that Songs You Know by Heart wasn’t blasting from the tape deck. Just imagine 3 under 10s singing “A Love Song from a Different Point of View” from the backseat at the top of their lungs! As I got older I dug deeper into his catalog and found so many more amazing songs that were even better than the known favorites. His stop in Austin 1996 was my first concert ever and it was all I could wish for. Saw him a few more times in concert most recently last summer with my parents and my wife and it was just as much fun as ever. I even sang Jimmy Buffett to my daughter as an infant to help put her to sleep at night. Jimmy you will be missed by many. Thank you for the great times and memories!7 points
