Nope. But a shitload of Arab-Americans and other parties supposedly deeply sympathetic to Gaza 1) do vote, and 2) either voted for Trump, or registered a protest vote for Stein or somesuch. In spite of all common sense telling them that they were voting for the leopard that would fully and finally consume the face of Gaza (or more accurately, would give Israel full license and blessing to do so). This outcome is EXACTLY what those people voted for. Sorry. I'm all out of sympathy. For everyone.18 points

I am completely with you. There's absolutely nothing I can do to prevent what is going to happen to the Palestinians. I did what I could to prevent it. But I'm still going to lament it. At the same time, one may plausibly hope that there is something constructive that comes from people seeing the (very, very foreseeable) consequences of their voting behavior. And perhaps that would provide some benefit going forward, which is worth cheering for. It may be true that @BrickHorn is sitting there wringing his hands over the fate of the poor Palestinians. And meanwhile, @Brisketexan is maniacally finger-tenting while hissing "excellent." And they have the exact same impact on what is going to happen in Palestine. When the time for deciding what was going to happen in Palestine was upon us, they were on the same side. But that time is gone, and they're both now equally impotent. The hand-wringer's hand-wringing over the finger-tenter's sinister grimace is a bit stupid. As is the finger-tenter's supposed glee, I suppose. I imagine they're both coping mechanisms. I suspect neither will be terribly effective in the medium- or long-term. That's why we have alcohol.17 points

As a Plan II/EE major, my belief on the matter is that you dickheads need to STFU about this bullshit and get back to making fun of aggy. This thread is the last goddamn place you should be arguing the merits of a quality education.17 points

This gloating is bizarre and kind of proves they're in a cult. If Harris had won, I'd let out a huge sigh of relief and that's about it.16 points

Nah man. Johnny Sack is a pussy, as is everyone like him. They've never been through the fire which is why they have no empathy for anyone who struggles. The moment their life gets hard they will be begging anyone to "make it stop". You are giving them wayyyy too much credit Cat. Roll back time to the stock market crash in 1929. Who was jumping out the windows? The Johnny Sacks. People who had been through some shit just shrugged their shoulders and kept it moving. I hope Trump drives this mother fucker into the ditch just like '29 so we can get some real progressive change. Maybe we will lose a few Sacks and Increduwhatevers along the way.14 points

Maybe this isn’t the thread for it but bear out my musings. My wife is Turkish, so I travel to Turkey frequently. One thing that’s always bothered me about being there is that the culture encourages selfishness. Everything is about trying to get one over on everyone else. From their behavior in traffic to ways to cheat regulations and rules, everyone is out for themselves. My BIL is in construction management. He said if the law required 20 rebar in a concrete pour, they’d do 15. If it called for 15, they’d do 10. I’ve said in the past while I was there that it’s extremely hard to recover from a culture like that. That outlook is the only way they know how to think about issues. I’ve often wondered how a culture devolves into an attitude like that and I think we’re there. Trust me, I’m full “leopards eating faces right now” as I’ve stated earlier in this thread. People who cared about others have been beaten down to the point where they’re callous and actively enjoying the suffering of others. It’ll be interesting to see how our country evolves from here.13 points

All you guys like to think about it in these very bleak terms. To me it's more like this: I have a feeling I'm going to be using these a lot here the next few years.13 points

Plenty of us knew the Arkansas idiots would consider that game a jihad experience, but that allegedly wasn't a pervasive theme inside of the program at the time. Sarkisian pushed back on feedback about it being a special game to Arkansas and paid the price, including feedback from the powers that be around the program. He'd coached against them at Bama and didn't respect much about their program. Go back and look at clips during that game and he's got a 1000 yard stare and looks to be in a state of shock, just like his shitty QB at the time. No doubt he and the program didn't understand that rivalry. That said, there's no comparison with ATM. That game is "in your face" for everyone, and the schools are separated by a few hours of driving. We all hear about it all of the time, it's a constant drumbeat of forecasts and discussions nationally with guys like Doering picking ATM already, and there isn't a big money player who is going to get pushback from Sarkisian about this game who isn't going to snap him back to reality, real fast. I'm not worried about Sarkisian or the team being ready for this one. He has spoken about ATM as a force to be thwarted as an existential threat to roster acquisition and management for the last 3 years in private conversations. The OU game and the Arkansas game will always be driven by emotions, often wild ones. The ATM has never really felt that way. The better team on paper just usually wins. I'd love to see Texas win the next two games while ATM chokes on the road against Auburn and the match-up is 10-1 vs 8-3, but if ATM wins out as well, it will be a top 10 matchup and one of the most hyped games of the season. It's not sneaking up on anyone either way.13 points

I got news for you, I prayed, in a no-fucks-given public school system, and we also had a nice lady come around and tell Bible stories with cut-out figures that would cling to a felt board. Then we were allowed to draw Bible scenes, so I busted out a magnum opus of Samson holding a Philistine soldier by the neck and smashing his skull with the jawbone of an ass. It was way better than my rather pedestrian drawing of Moses murdering the Egyptian slave-driver. The other kids that day drew floating basket baby Moses n stuff. Naw.12 points

Most of us aren't cheering on the mass murder of innocent human beings - we're just ready for the idiots of this country to realize that there are consequences for their actions. We hoped that it wouldn't take Gaza being wiped out, or family members being wrongfully deported, or tariffs put in place that light inflationary fires, or a hundred other things that are going to happen to make it clear, but that's not the world we live in. The problem is that if the Democrats get in the way of any of this at all, the GOP is going to point at them and say, "See??? They fucked it all up!!!" and it will work - AGAIN (as it always does). So we're at the place where all there is to do is sit back and say "As a reminder, this is what's going to happen - you voted for it" and then when it happens, repeat over and over again "We told you what was going to happen, and you voted for it. Don't vote for them again because they will fuck you over and over again." Maybe it will work - but probably not.12 points

Nothing. I have tried, plenty. Nobody listens, nobody cares, everyone thinks it will all be magically different and awesome this time. Remember how we all used to make fun of the pseudo-"communists" on campus who would spout their idiocy about how true communism had never been tried, and they have all the ideas about how it will be awesome if we try it and "this time, it would be different!"??? I remember. And now we get to have the same thought about the people masturbating to the idea of how THIS authoritarian government will be awesome, just you wait and see! Why should I expend any more effort on people who don't fucking want anything but where we are and where we're headed? I have one job now: make as much fucking money as I can, however I can, to insulate me and mine from the worst of it. That's it. We've chosen "fuck you, every man for himself" as our national creed, and engraved it in stone. I'd be a fool not to live by it now.12 points

So I was talking with my dad and some other Trump voters in individual conversations over the weekend and my conclusion is that many Trump 2024 voters simply don’t believe the campaign’s policies will be executed. When I brought up across the board tariffs, and how that’s not going to help food prices go down, the response was “that’s not going to happen”. Instead he believes some responsible “targeted tariffs” will be what happens- despite all evidence to the contrary. Same for Obamacare. “He won’t get rid of protections for pre-existing conditions”. And Medicare changes? “he won’t touch Medicare” lol ok. There’s no point in arguing policy because I think a lot of Trump voters are similar. Thinking they were just voting for a change at the White House, but not actually believing that Trump will pursue the few policies he ran on. I will be watching this thread.12 points

So, here we are. Back to the scene of either the worst or 2nd worst game of Sark’s tenure. I’ve only seen him get out coached twice in my opinion- Arkansas 21 and Georgia this year. This game, on September 11, 2021 was just such a humiliating data point as a program that showed how inept and far we had to go. Hudson Card and Casey Thompson were the QB’s. Shudder. The O line couldn’t block anyone. The skill position talent was ok but nothing to write home about. The defense was horrific. it was the kind of team and program one should expect after that chucklefuck Charlie Strong shot all over the place for 3 years. And then, we had our new guy supposed to fix it and he was crouched on his haunches on the sideline in a catatonic shock. Not good man, not good. Fastforward 3 years and 3 months and it’s night and day different. The QB controversy didn’t ever really get going this year- but if it had we’d be fighting over 2 guys probably going to go in the first round. The offensive line is the best it’s been in 20 years here. The skill position talent will play on Sundays. The defense is really good. Sark is stealing top 5 classes. We played in the last 4 team playoffs and look poised to play in the first 12 game set. with everything that happened around the conference we control our own destiny (as I said we would after the Georgia game). I hate losing any game. But, the goal isn’t to go undefeated (ask Saban if he wants give back any of the MANY titles of his that has a loss) but to win the conference and then the national title. Those goals are right there. Just have to win. Against a team we should. But that will be pumped to run our face in it again. We owe them. Let’s make them pay. Game Week stuff here.11 points

You gotta consider day labor anywhere. I'm in construction so I deal with a Lot of dull knives and racism. Northern Mexicans look down on Southern Mexicans who look down on Guatemalan. Black Haitans or Venezuelans are really hated. It's dumb tribalism and " my situation sucks, but I'm above those guys. We watched a century of poor whites vote against thier own interest just to stay a step above black people ; and didn't expect the same other people? We are provencial, and tribal and selfish and our system only encourages that . We need to counter that. He's gonna still your cookie mate memes aren’t landing.11 points

The first game I ever saw in person at DKR was 2003 Arkansas. Texas was #5 and a 16.5 point favorite. Final score was 38-28 Arky, and included this memorable play in the 3rd quarter: 3rd & 30 at ARK 3 (2:50 - 3rd) Matt Jones (ARK) pass left side complete to George Wilson (ARK) for 54 yards. Yep. Third and 30 from their own 3 and they converted. The silver lining was that VY was watching from the sidelines and taking notes for '04 and '05.11 points

Things that are not Texas's fault when it comes to the schedule. 1) Michigan hiring their Tom Herman, instead of conducting a real search. They had plenty of ammo to not hire Moore considering the cheating scandal and his role in it. 2) Texas playing backup QBs. We also played our backup QB in 2-1/2 games, not our fault that he was dominant. 3) Texas not playing good offensive teams, we have said for years before entering this conference, the offense has JV level shit compared to the multiple versions of the spread and HUNH offenses of the Big 12. 4) Other top SEC teams losing to the shitty teams on their schedule. Stop doing it. We are blowing those teams out like a good team should. 5) One road game half-way through our conference slate, Texas wanted a 9-game conference schedule. Teams like aggy did not because they need the extra win against a FCS team for their record and bowl eligibility. Frankly, a 16-team conference should be playing 10 conference games. If the SEC stays with a 8-game conference schedule, then I hope moving forward Texas plays 2 P4 teams OOC.11 points

Was talking w/ a childhood friend of mine from Minnesota this past weekend. My sisters and I grew up next door to his big family (9 kids) and his mom often babysat the 3 of us when my single parent dad was working late. These are the bluest of the blue collars. Mechanics. Printers. Firefighters. Healthcare workers. All have been working since they were teenagers and never stopped. I asked Mark how they were handling things up there. His mother (80) is terrified. His dad (82) has been an insulin dependent diabetic for over 40 years. So are several other members of their now extremely large clan (both in size and girth). When his mom discovered that one of her sons and 4 of her grandsons voted for Trump she broke down in tears. When she asked her son how she could vote for Trump his justification was that a Mexican restaurant that opened up one block away from the restaurant his wife worked at as a shift manager had cut into her restaurant's business so much that they cut her hours. She was having to pick up a second job at Target to make ends meet. Those brown people with their delicious carne asada and frijoles are just making it unfair for Minnesotans who want their bland shit served the same way every day.10 points

Can't for a suburban Trumper to have their new construction stay half finished because the workers were deported. Meanwhile, they're still paying on the construction loan.10 points

For a decade all we heard from aggy was about the grind of a full SEC schedule, how it depleted the roster and tested a team's depth - how Texas was lucky to play in the much softer Big 12 and would never be able to stand up to the SEC gauntlet. Now, they're complaining because Texas is healthier and deeper than the teams we play.10 points

Oh....my sweet summer child. Let me change that for you, so you realize how foolish it looks: You are not paying attention. The "Christo" is just the wrapping paper around the rank turd that is fascist authoritarianism. We WANT authoritarianism. We just voted for it. We are absolutely going to take it, we are going to cheer it on. The Trumpkins on here who are currently mocking us for pointing out where this is going will either be totally silent when it comes, or will be here to justify it, telling us "well, he HAS to suspend the rule of law to take our country back! That's what patriots do!" You fucking know how this goes. You don't want to know it. You don't want to acknowledge it. But...you know.9 points

This is actually completely untrue historically in this game. The favorite wins an overwhelming majority of the time. My view on why that occurs is that this game does not sneak up on anyone.9 points
