  1. My wife got a new student from Guatemala yesterday that speaks zero English. Her class is all bilingual with the exception of the new kid and the kids immediately responded by speaking Spanish amongst themselves all day to make him feel comfortable without my wife having to do anything at all. If only adults could be that generous and supportive.

Oh, and by the end of 1:00PM recess he had already come to love American Football, Murica!
    ¿But can he play?

    UT, Class of 20__ ?
  2. Riddle me these:

    • If the US Southern border truly IS "open" as many claim, why do those seeking to cross do so at night in very remote places, try to evade BPA's & hike across arid & dangerous country...
...instead of walk across during daylight hours & hop into a waiting vehicle?

    • If Texas actually DOES have the right to regulate all border points of entry & connected border land, then does that mean other states such as California, New York & Washington can also take control of regulating all borders for their land & border points?
Does this not also apply to every border state?

    • Were you aware that the Trump controlled Homeland Security deported less people than Obama?

    • Are you aware that up until 3 days ago, there was a deal between the Biden administration & the Republicans to enact some legislation regarding border funding for agents, administrative judges & x-ray type drug detection machines (for legal points of entry, which is where most of the illegal drugs e ter the USA) but Trump scuttled it because "I don't want to give Biden a win"?

  3. Reading glasses.
    Currently on a +1.5

Buying cheapies from Home Depot or HEEB... If I lose or damahe a pair, I won't worry about it, however the pair I use most has a hinge screw that keeps wanting to back out & obv. that's a hassle but also due to the cheapness.

I have considered the ones that hang around your neck & have a magnet to connect @ the nose bur I don't want all of that "chain hanging around your neck" business. I'm thinking that's more of an "I'm over 70" thing.

So - what's your personal philosophy on readers?

  4. My wife would name some place that's 100 miles away.
Yours actually names a particular place? Lucky you.

When mine says "anywhere", I start rattling off places I know she won't actually want & upon "No... no, no" responses, I remind her "Well, you DID say "anywhere", right?"

  5. Reminder, stay off highway 165 and 12. Thanks

That's my route to come off Creek Road, then go down to Blanco & on to San Antonio. Do you live down thataways?

    . . . . . . . . . . . .

Have been to Dreamland a few times for Scout "fun day" activities & we built the stage out back. (Attached pic)

Every time we go to El Rey, a reasonable % of patrons appear to be Hispanic / non English speaking & that seems to be a decent reference.

& FWIW, I think their food is good.

The Flores taco stand is also good & IIRC, you can also get a brisket Taco.

Don't base Pig Pen solely on a sandwich , the ribs are good & they have a good stuffed baked potato offering. I'm not a fan of Railroad BBQ for various reasons.

One Shot Distillery is owned by folks that were "on scene for J6 but we didn't go in... I swear!" folks, so do with that whatever you want.

Oak Creek is serviceable generic food; I try to go primarily because it is local & reasonably priced.

I like Homespun. This location has been many different restaurants overr the past 15 years or so with the current owner doing the best, especially after they added the back / outdoor part. In many of the floods since the Homespun people have operated it, they keep asking for donations to help out.

Turcotte... didn't you specify the cheese you wanted? Never a bad sandwich there & yes, I'm usually getting the Philly.

Pizza Cave has a good pork soup & good slices with a nice view off the back of the building.

For what you get, IMO the Filling Station is a tad bit overpriced. YMMV.

Thyme & Dough is a good small-ish sandwich opportunity & @ one time, we occasionally sold eggs to them. I honestly have Ø idea what keeps them in business because they never seem to be busy / have enough seating to afford the space & all the costs associated with that (also, shared parking 290 frontage with Pig Pen).

Back East in Belterra Spoon & Fork is good. Thai w/ lots of good broth stuff & just enough sweet / generic "Asian" to satisfy the average American's palette.

I'm 50-50 on Switch. The "switch" part is ½ Cajun / ½ Q, however they never really have figured out what they wanted to be.

The League has an excellent fish & chips & a good price for "Burger Monday". My son likes their pot pie, says it's the best ever (he's 17, so what life experience does he have?). The dirt year or so that we went there, every.single.time we ordered anything fried or with French fries , the waitstaff seemed to fear they were being "Mystery Shopped" & would always ask "Would you like to 'Truffle Up' that ____ ?" & it became sorta tedious. Shrimp cocktail is usually very fat offerings. I think they make their own pickles.

West Henly Boilshack is close by & you're maybe paying $ 1 extra per pound due to location / distance to other options. Never a bad time there.

Hill Country Ranch Pizza, when they first opened - the pie itself was cardboard crap. They must have received feedback because something got fixed & it's now more like a 7.5 / 10.

I have been 1× to Tillie's @ Camp Luch & liked it, however my wife thinks it's "too strange & high priced" (she is more of a generic / typical offerings kinda eater). It has been some years, so I don't recall what we got.

The building for Tillie's is interesting & has a background of "relocating" the structure from Vietnam.

I don't remember the handle, however we have a Shag² member who lives across from Camp Lucy.

& That's my perspective on the "Locals" review.

  6. I'm about as anti-SovCit as anyone you'll find, however in this example, their reasons for pulling him over seemed quite specious.

The only thing missing was their jaws hitting the pavement as he pedaled off.

"Too many lights"? Nonsense. He could be a Rose Bowl parade of one if he wanted to. All the better to be seen & not get whacked by a car.

  7. Mom is having an L2 ~ L3 Xlist / Laminectomy on Fridsy.

I took her to the pre-op clearance yesterday. Serious business for a neatly 79 year old lady.

Doc says she needs 1:1 assistance for 3 days post discharge, yet this is only an overnight stay in the hospital & unless you're IN the hospital for 3 days, a rehab type "nursing home" facility is not approved.

Hell, when she had her knee replaced she was able to get approved for that same type of rehab stay... & this one is spine related.

  8. This is pretty funny but this guy is probably one of those sovereign citizen dipshits.
    But... was he wrong?
