I've used mine to do side-by-side tastings of several bottles with only two or three drinkers. We did this a lot during the covid shutdown (luckily Total Wine and Specs were considered critical businesses); we'd buy 8 or 10 bottles of new stuff we hadn't tried, then use the coravin to pour a tasting of each having fun doing the comparison. I also found that most of these bottles were still good weeks or months after doing a single pouring with the coravin. Other than that, I haven't found much use for it. Even if you're the type that drinks one or two glasses with dinner and have a half bottle left over, just put the cork back in it and it'll usually be fine the next day, although you could use your coravin here as well. I just don't think it's worth it for your average everyday drinker.
  3. PK on the sideline - is that new?
  4. Haha nice. I was thinking it was some handmade masterpiece. Shows how much I know lol

This was one of the Celestins bottles that he only makes in special vintages. I’ve had a couple of others before and this one didn’t disappoint (they’ve all been spectacular). It was the best of the three we had including the Sabon Secrets de Sabon. Just a fantastic wine and definitely worth the money. Save the one you have for a special occasion.
  7. I just had the Wagyu Omakase menu at Cote and it was fantastic. It’s not traditional but I would highly recommend it. It’s also a fun, laid back atmosphere and has a star. Just something to consider.

A few from a great week in NYC
  9. Love Atera, especially at the bar. Great week there for you.
  10. Actually there’s more to it than that…. Coach asked the captains to vote, and they voted to bring him back. Coach overruled them. So I think there’s something else going on but no doubt the players wanted him back.

Taking a few bottles along for my trip to NYC. The two Calis on the left are for Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare and the two French whites are for an omakase lunch at Odo.
  12. Not if you had some balls. Otherwise you’d apologize for him, say he’s learned, and you’re behind him and his current character, and everyone makes mistakes. And then you move on like it didn’t happen. Because, honestly, it affected no one.
  13. Big week coming up next week: Tues dinner at Chefs Table Wed afternoon at Tribeca Grill, dinner at Kochi Thurs lunch at Odo Thurs night - Sat afternoon at the NYWE Sat early dinner at Cote followed by a nightcap at Nice Matin Sun brunch at Caviar Rousse followed by Wicked and then a late table at Daniel Mon dinner at Nakazawa Should be a nice week in NYC.
  14. What makes it so beautiful is when you watch it on the replay, the 220 lb blitzing linebacker completely obliterates the right guard and knocks him five yards backward, landing on his ass while at the same time the DT puts a spin move on the center, Foster, that leaves him whiffing and grabbing at air. Complete and total domination of the interior of the aggy line by MSU on the most critical play of the game.
  15. Really good breakdown of some of the key plays from the game
  16. Going to Kochi next month. Did you do the 6 or 9 course, and would you have picked the other based on your experience with the one you went with? Also, did you do the Sool pairing, and if so, do you think it was worth it over bringing a couple of bottles?

I've had it and I agree with the assessment. It's good, but very much overpriced. With that said, that's a damn fine gift.
  18. It's excellent, and I would definitely recommend it. However, they don't allow corkage (if that matters to you).
  19. @PenelopeWitherspoon I'm planning an October trip and looking at some new restaurants I haven't yet tried. Any chance you've been to any of these... Atomix Uchu Yasada Odo Tempura Matsui Cote

Just finished a trip to Croatia and found some really good wines that are great values. Unfortunately they’re almost impossible to find unless you’re there. If you’ve never heard of BIBICh, it’s worth learning about.

It was fantastic, in its prime, but also has enough in the tank to drink well for the next 20-30 years. We tasted all of them blind and it tied for 3rd in our group, with the Ducru and Penfolds ahead. That’s a tough lineup, though, and the third place finisher is still a damn good bottle.
