  1. Carson, Perry, De Vos, etc are incompetent window dressing in the pantheon of Trump appointees, but Pruitt is terrifying. Unlike the others, he's actively engaged & motivated to do shit--bad, detrimental shit--that will negatively impact our environment for years (decades?) to come. Just so he can fill his pockets & live high on the hog at the taxpayers' expense.

I'm beyond flabbergasted that he wasn't run out of town on a rail 6 months ago.

  2. No kids. Had Dr Chopp do his magic about 13 years ago. Almost painless. Wife was very appreciative & made it up to me many, many times over. Hell, I almost wish I could do it again after all these years for the gratitude and sympathy sex

Fargo. Disliked the first viewing, but that may have been due to an audience over-anxious to demonstrably laugh at everything.

I remember seeing Fargo opening weekend at the old Arbor Cinema (if anyone remembers that place; now it's a Cheesecake Factory). I spent the first 15 years of my life in Minnesota and Fargo absolutely KILLED me, it so perfectly captured the characters. I swear I felt I was looking at relatives & neighbors I'd known all my life. And I was one of maybe 3 or 4 people in a packed theater who was laughing. When the film ended I was applauding & the rest of the audience seemed to walk out with a collective "what the fuck was that" reaction.

I don't know if this officially counts, but I never made it through the first Guardians of the Galaxy & never bothered with the second, but having watched Infinity War last weekend I'm intrigued enough by the characters to give it a second shot.

  4. Castaway is my nod. Robert Zemekis did his best to Spielberg the shit out of this thing. Originally I saw Hanks doing his best De Niro impersonation. And failing.

But almost 20 years down the road it holds up surprisingly well. Zemekis did one great thing in eschewing any soundtrack for just the natural noise of waves & wind in the trees. Give it time & it will pull you into the environment.

    Whatcha got?

  5. WTF is a class poet and wtf is a promvitation?
No shit, the niece who's graduating next month just blasted my wife's FB page with her "promposal" pics where the young cheese dick she's dating has multiple friends help him by holding large posters he made. The dude also plays soccer so he's already losing at life.

  6. Everyone has an axe to grind and many will in this thread, but Peter King is the last touchstone to great sports journalism. He's constantly championed talented journalists (not screaming mouthpieces) & has been tremendously deferential of those who came before him.

With regards to his NFL Hall of Fame reporting, I'll just say that no one has provided a more consistent view into the inner workings of the selection committee than King. No one. The rules make it clear that the discussions inside the voting room is private, but he did as good of a job as could have been done to explain the voting tallies without breaking the rules.

He's 60 years old. His dad and at least one brother (maybe two?) died young due to heart disease. Thirty years in a business that wears you out due to travel & shitty hours is quite a road. I respect what he's done even when I've vehemently disagreed with his reporting. But he put his best effort out there & stood by his work.

  7. Newman is 39 and retiring at the end of this season. They just picked up the 5th year option on Trae Waynes but with the money they're already paying Rhodes I think it's more likely they let Waynes walk next year than sign him to a big extension. That makes 2 likely openings.

Zimmer likes to develop his DBs slowly. I like Hill's chances.

  8. Warning: this post has nothing to do with cannabis products.

It's hard to imagine Holton Hill landing in a better spot. I shouldn't have to tell anybody on this board Mike Zimmer's bona fides as a DB coach. And who is Minnesota's current DB coach? Just some guy by the name of Jerry Gray.

If he makes the squad he could be starting in 2 years.

BTW, AUTF's criticism of Life is well taken.  I just chalked it up to most people doing more interesting stuff when they're young, hungry and stupid than when they're old, fat and lazy.  But it could also have been filling pages.

This is very valid. It begins like a house afire and does peter a bit at the end. I'm still amazed that Mick hasn't published his own autobiography yet. Unless he's just counting on outliving Keef and making an extra $10mm in publishing fees.

I'm not a huge Beatles fan but am intrigued by You Never Give Me Your Money. I can see how many divergent stories are there to be told.

  10. Just started reading "Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements" by Bob Mehr and I'm blown away. It's got me to thinking about great biographies.

For autobiographies I think the gold standards are "Life" by Keith Richards and "Born to Run" by Springsteen. Two of the best I've ever read. Peter Ames Carlin's bio "Bruce" is also very well done & sheds more light behind the mechanics of the E Street Band along with the nuts & bolts of some of the albums, tours, etc.

U2 by U2 was given to me as a gift. It's more of a great big picture book with words in the margins & really doesn't work all that well.

What are your go to bios? I'd love to find some good books the icons like Sinatra & Dean Martin. Is Dylan's autobio worth picking up? I seem to recall a review that described it as a rambling fever dream of words.

Leaving Vegas. Late last night was spent at blackjack table in high limit room. With Manziel. Boozing, ripping heaters, betting poorly, and generally acting like a jackass.

Solid humble brag. Surprised the douche still has the money for high limit tables. Unless he's on the casino's arm.

Was he splitting tens? Doubling down on 7 with dealer showing a face card?
