  1. Hate it for the guy. He seemed born to be a high-level football player. I guess that if this is the end of the line, so be it. But at least he parlayed it into the opportunity to get a great education...and clearly was a great leader in building our 2019 class. If his positive influence extends beyond that, I'll view it as a bonus.

    Get well, son.

  2. Congrats to the team. You could tell it meant something to them. Once you're in it, go ahead and win it. Which they did with relative ease, once shots started to fall.

I have no idea what it means for the future of the program, but seeing as Shaka was almost certain to be retained anyway, I'll just hope it's stepping stone to a much better season.

    Hook 'em.

  3. Roach could dominate so many games, including tonight’s, if he’d simple go to his left about 20 percent of the time and force someone to keep him away from the rim. But he just won’t. Few have ever had a bigger gap between physical talent and dependability.

  4. Once you see your lot is to play in the NIT, way better to win it than not. Good for the team if they succeed in doing so. For that matter, under the circumstances it’s been good for them to make the finals.

That said, my standard for any team in any sport is that it play close to its potential. Win or lose. In fact, I might be more encouraged by losing a really well-played game against Lipscomb than winning a really bad one by default. We seem incapable of putting solid offense and defense together for the same 40 minutes, so at least coming close to that to wrap up the year would be a positive.

Let’s start with making most of our layups and key FTs. Those are two areas that should always be within our control. More success in those areas would lessen the need for “perfection” elsewhere.

  5. It’s understandable that the NIT gets little respect. These aren’t exactly great teams. But on a given night there can be some decent ball played. Lipscomb I thought was impressive last night against a pretty fair Wichita State team. We survived, which is the kindest way to describe our night.

You’d like to think winning the NIT would be a springboard to a good NCAA run the next year, but that’s sure not a given. TCU hasn’t exactly flourished since its title. For that matter, we didn’t after our 1978 team won it. (And that was a really stout bunch. Those who never saw that team play might not realize how great it was, especially on offense. They’d probably beat our current team by about 30.)

All that said, I sure hope we win Thursday, and that we look far better offensively than we did last night. No random fan is going to enjoy 40 minutes of what the Big 12 put on display in the semis.

Kind of a weird position to be in. Texas will be the big name program everyone is cheering against in the championship game of a postseason basketball tournament.

True. But based on tonight’s performances, in no way, shape or form would an objective observer feel we should be favored. Lipscomb has guys with actual basketball skills. We can’t shoot this badly again and win.

All that said, I think Febres or Ramey or someone will make a few jumpers, and we’ll win.
