  1. In his last 10 starts against the Braves Jacob deGrom has a 1.74 era and nearly 9 strike outs per game. The Braves are 8-2 in those game. What this team is doing defies all logic. They're getting contributions from scrap heap players like Hechavarria, Ortega and Hamilton which won't be sustainable in October. Dansby and Riley just started rehab assignments which is a major positive. The bullpen has been excellent for six games in a row now. Melancon, Greene and Martin are settling in. Jackson is pitching better without the pressure of being a closer. It's certainly a cautious optimism, but hopefully it's a group that's improving.
  2. MLS needs to stop pretending Atlanta-Orlando is a rivalry. It isn't. Orlando isn't in their class. Despite being each team's closest geographical rival (until Miami and Nashville come along) it's so forced. Atlanta's biggest rival is the Red Bulls. The Red Bulls also have two other rivals so they'll never play during rivalry week, but Atlanta and Orlando have played exactly one game with any kind of stakes and it was a US Open Cup semifinal.
  3. The Atlanta-Portland first half was really fun if you prefer your soccer played at a cocaine-binge level intensity. It was end to end, extremely chippy and, in typical MLS fashion, poorly officiated.
  4. Braves rally to take 2 out of 3 without Swanson, Markakis, Inciarte and Riley and with Freddie not getting a hit. Yeah, they missed Kershaw and Buehler, but that was a hell of a rebound. And I'm not getting into the whole Acuna-Snitker thing.
  5. My memory for things as gotten hazy, but when I think of Ced I seem to remember him putting the team on his back and grinding out yards in a win in Fayetteville in 2003. 29 carries, 188 yards and two touchdowns. Dude wasn't flashy. He was a work horse who got the damn job done. All-time great Longhorn. RIP, Ced.
  6. The Braves, with half a triple A lineup, beat the probable NL Cy Young Award winner. They got good innings from Greene and Melancon. Best win of the season.
  7. and nearly brawled at the end too. Great scene.
  8. - Segino Dest got his first start for Ajax today. - Zack Steffen had 9 saves in a 3-1 win in his Bundesliga debut for Fortuna Dusseldorf at Weder Bremen. - US U20 player Uly Llanez is off to a great start with Bremen's U19 team. He has 4 goals and an assist in two games.
  9. This might be my favorite penalty run up ever
  10. I was wrong. Teemu Pukki is going to be the best goal scorer in EPL history apparently.
  11. Yes. He was on the preliminary 40 man roster for the Gold Cup but wasn't selected for the final roster.
  12. Since July 23rd the Braves have won series against the Nationals, Phillies, Mets and Twins, split with the Reds and Marlins and got swept by the Royals. They're the dumbest team to ever be 22 games over .500.
  13. Homelander is the only thing that would get me invested in a season 2. I was tired of everyone else by the end of it.
  14. I'm on the Newcastle bandwagon because of Miguel Almiron. Don't root for Newcastle. They suck. I hate having to watch them.
  15. Fox Deportes reporting Edinson Cavani is going to Inter Miami when his contract is up at PSG next summer. I'm skeptical.
  16. Josef Martinez, who was questionable with an adductor injury, goes up over a defender and scores for the 10th consecutive game, a new MLS record.
  17. So Chelsea isn't as good without Eden Hazard? I'm kind of surprised by that.
  18. Willems sits back instead of going to get the ball allowing it to be stolen and then leaving one of the best goal scorers in the league wide open in the middle of the pitch. Newcastle is in peak form on match day one.
  19. Lamela steals the ball from Grealish and then his pass ping pongs off two Villa players right to Kane. What rotten luck there even if it felt like a second Spurs goal was coming.
  20. Never trust a man whose name is a sentence.
  21. A lot can change obviously, but right now Julio Teheran would be your #2 starter in the playoffs and I don't love that idea.
  22. Norwich earned promotion because of two things: - Teemu Pukki was insane. He had 29 goals and 9 assists last year. That's an obviously not sustainable production level in the Premier League - They were unbelievably clutch. They earned 19 points from the 9 goals they scored in the final quarter hour of games last year. They opted to try and keep the team together that won the Championship instead of trying to spend money and bring in new players. It was a bit of smoke and mirrors beyond Pukki that got them to the Prem. Making them start at Liverpool was just mean lol.
