  1. Melancon has been fine. Martin made one bad pitch to Sano and that was after getting extremely unlucky with a bloop on a good pitch with two outs. I'll take the hit for that one because I was at the game Monday and opted not to go Tuesday so clearly that one was my fault. Greene has been a trainwreck and hopefully it's not the beginning of a significant regression only a mild one and he'll get better. To add insult that trade, the Braves actually could use Demeritte for a short period because Riley is going on the IL and Swanson isn't quite ready to comeback and they don't have a good option on the 40 man roster to come up and fill the extra position player spot right now.
  2. CCV spending another year in the Championship. Stoke should be a bit better than the Swansea team he played for last year and are expected to contend for promotion. Hopefully he can help them get there (for his sake, I don't care if the club does well or not)
  3. This season hinges on Foltynewicz coming back and being useful. IF, and I understand that's a big IF, he comes back in September and re-establishes himself as a major league pitcher I could be talked into the Braves being legit contenders with Soroka, Keuchel and Folty as the starters, a revamped good bullpen and this lineup. Of course, these bullpen acquisitions could be duds and Folty is a headcase so I'm not banking on it, but his potential is so much higher than Teheran who, to his credit, made arguably his two best starts of the year against the Nats when the Braves really needed it.
  4. The Braves get Chris Martin, Shane Greene and Mark Melancon for Kolby Allard, Joey Wentz, Travis Demeritte, Tristan Beck and Dan Winkler. Allard was a big time prospect two years ago but has fallen off dramatically this year and was bad in a small sample size in Atlanta. Wentz is good but wasn't likely to make it to Atlanta for a couple of years. Demeritte has power but is position blocked (particularly because I have a suspicion the Braves are going to try to sign him to a two year deal). The Braves revamped their bullpen and the cost was as minimal as you could've hoped for. AA really did work these last two days.
  5. From 2015-17 Duvall was a slightly above average hitter (in terms of OPS and OPS+) with plenty of power and the wheels fell of for him last year. If he can replicate his 2015-17 form he's a perfectly suitable option to be your 6-7 hitter.
  6. 2003 is the best comp. 2nd in MLB in runs, 2nd in batting average, 3rd in home runs. 6 players had 20+ home runs: Javy Lopez (43), Gary Sheffield (39), Andruw Jones (36), Chipper (27), Vinny Castilla (22), Marcus Giles (21). Lopez, Sheffield and the Jones boys all had 100+ RBI. That team flamed out in the NLDS because, in a fun twist for the Braves franchise at the time, the pitching wasn't that good. It was Maddux and a whole lot of blech. Smoltz was the closer that year.
  7. yeah, you can criticize his movies for various reasons, but you absolutely cannot say the man doesn't pour every ounce of his being into his films.
  8. It was a movie I appreciated much more as I've been thinking about it since it ended (my showing ended about 4 hours ago) than I did while I was watching it. When I watch a movie in theaters I want it to be about a destination as much as anything and I didn't really care for where it ended up but as I thought more about the performances, Pitt and DiCaprio in particular, I really liked it. I think the nuance built into their relationship was great and the scenes where DiCaprio is in the new western TV show were phenomenal (and REALLY made me want a Justified movie where DiCaprio is the bad guy opposite Olyphant). Gonna spoiler some of the things I REALLY loved the more I thought about them: The Sharon Tate angle did nothing for me personally. I think Margot Robbie can act (she's great in I Tonya) but the part was just a whole lot of nothing. I get what she's supposed to represent, but for a movie that's 2:41 I just wasn't feeling that particular plot point.
  9. Mets scouts were watching our AA and AAA teams tonight. Ian Anderson was pitching in AA which leads me to believe the Braves are going to kick the tires on Syndergaard. I highly doubt the Braves would give up Anderson for Zack Wheeler
  10. It's a big fish in a small pond thing. You don't have to refine your skills when you're an unquestioned starter in an inferior league. Liga MX is a better league than MLS.
  11. Arriola needs to go to Europe or back to Mexico in the worst way. I love some of the intangibles he brings to the table, but good lord is lacking technical proficiency.
  12. It was every bit the abomination it was expected to be. Raw 25 was horse shit. This was horse shit.
  13. Over his past 32 games Donaldson is hitting .297 with 14 home runs and a 1.153 OPS. He's worth every penny they're paying him this year and with Riley's expected regression it's not entirely crazy to think about a two year extension (although I wouldn't do it if it inhibits getting pitching help this offseason) An interesting twist is the Giants playing well. They're 2.5 games back in the Wild Card race so they may be reluctant to sell which I think is crazy. They are unlikely to make the playoffs so not getting anything for Bumgarner or Will Smith would be bad for them, but those guys may be off the table. Marcus Stroman and Ken Giles are names that have been floating around the past few days and there were rumors shot down that the Blue Jays wouldn't want to deal with AA.
  14. SUPER excited to watch Morris continue to play ahead of him.
  15. The ref chest bumped him more than he bumped the ref.
  16. This same official sent off three Houston players the last time he did one of their games a year ago. The Ellis red card was such horse shit. I'm happy Atlanta kicked the shit out of them, but man the officiating in the league is such a dumpster fire.
  17. What top of the rotation starter are you expecting as a realistic option?
  18. AR ruled it a corner. Lead official overruled him but NYCFC never heard the call and only saw the AR so they backed off to set up for a corner and the Red Bulls caught them napping. Typical, shit MLS officiating.
  19. Honestly the Bundesliga has done more to help the USMNT than MLS has so I hope they keep signing American kids and bring them on tours of the US.
  20. I forgot he existed tbh
  21. Emerson Hyndman who captained the U20 team at the World Cup in 2015 made his Atlanta United debut the other night and played pretty well. If he plays regularly he'll probably find his way into the player pool. Another potential attacking midfield option.
  22. Dries Mertens not looking forward to training starting
  23. I know the Hex is a long way off, but I'm curious in the interim how the FIFA rankings are going to change things. Currently the Hex would be Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras, El Salvador. I kinda want to see Curacao get into the Hex.
