This is another example of what I believe is an innate difference between the sexes (or genders or whatever...).

I can't count the number of times I have asked a female of the species a fairly simple question, which only requires a simple yes or no in answer, and received dozens, if not hundreds, of words in return. These are inevitably in the form of a completely unnecessary explanation, and often do not include the single word I had sought.

In retrospect, it is easier to count the number times when the response actually was that single word, possibly accompanied with something short... "no, thanks" or "yes, why not" or the like. That count is either a single digit or perhaps as high as low double digits.

They assume every question you ask has an ulterior motive because every question they ask you does.  There is no such thing as a yes or no question.

No Giro fatigue for Pogi. He’s on an insane level this year. Jonas is obviously diminished, but I don’t think he could hang with this version of Tadej. He’s truly in beast mode.

We'll never know exactly how diminished Jonas is, or what he might have done with a healthy team around him, but Tadej certainly appears to be in top form.

Glad to see Girmay isn't too worse for ware.  Loved seeing him grab that point from Philipsen at the mid-stage sprint.

  3. The most suspect thing to me is recovery.  How they can look so much better than everyone else day after day after day is the "hmmm" factor for me.  When it comes to things like that, I just ignore it and enjoy the sport for what it is.

I don't want to know the truth.  And don't spoil Santa Claus for me either.

I was impressed with Wout, too.  He had to be hurting bigtime after that crash yesterday.

He needs to quit trying to sneak up along the barrier.  He got pinched off again today trying to do that, and probably wins if he takes a better line...easier said than done, of course.

Nice seeing a young rider from a country with no TdF history on a team that hasn't had much success doing well.  Two Three down, 33 32 to go...34 33 if he wants the record outright.

  6. At first, second, and third glance, I assumed that was some sort of photoshop fade effect before realizing it was just the dust.  It also captures the slightly bad fit of Jan Tratnik's bike for Jonas.  Awesome photo.

There’s a good reason Remco shaded Jonas, suggesting he doesn’t have the balls to race. Tadej said he thinks Jonas is afraid of him. These comments are in response to Jonas riding smart and calmly instead of trying to blow up the GC on Stage 9 with 70k to go without teammates. How Jonas goes for the rest of the race is unknown, but I think both Remco and Pogi know that if Jonas continues to improve, they need him to make a tactical mistake on the road if they’re not able to bury him with attacks. I don’t think it’s Jonas who’s afraid. This is an already an incredible Tour, and shaping up to have the potential of being legendary.

Criticizing Jonas for behaving like Jonas is one way to go.  I hope Pog and Remco keep poking that bear.  Jonas has always been very aware of his strengths and weaknesses, and ridden accordingly.  Expecting him to go toe-to-toe with Pog and Remco on stages that don't suit him is wish casting.

Yeah, I think there's definitely a good chance after watching this week, but still going to be a big ask. Without Sepp, Jonas will have to burn off all the UAE riders himself. They won't pace hard enough to strangle Pogacar in the high mountains.

This is the second biggest hurdle to a Jonas 3-peat (the biggest being the crash in April).  I think Jonas is more reliant on his team than Pog.  Pog has rarely demonstrated that he has the patience to utilize his team to its fullest potential, though to be fair, this is the first year where he has the strongest team.  Not maximizing that advantage is good news for Jonas, but I don't think it will matter.

I'm not as optimistic as Thomas, but I would love to be wrong.

It was one of the most entertaining stages we've had in a long while. I like the idea of riding on gravel, but I hate the idea that such a huge race could be determined by bad luck. I mean, sure, that is always the case but the possibilities / probabilities get magnified on gravel.

Imagine if it had been raining.

  9. I just watched The Hotel New Hampshire.  I knew nothing about it, but came away feeling that Wes Anderson liberally borrowed from it.  It may have been the book more so than the film, but Google suggests I was correct.  Who knew?

It was wild to see no Visma team left at the end while, Pog still had 3 strong guys.

Last 2 years, it was the complete opposite for Pog.

Yep, it's the opposite of what we have seen the past two Tours.  This isn't a team that Visma would normally have, but they didn't have much choice.  It has been a brutal year for them.  No Sepp is a killer for stages like today's, but they are down multiple guys that would normally be there, and the ones there aren't in top form.

I'm doubtful that Vingo will pull back any time the rest of the way, but maybe he'll surprise.

I thought their whole strategy was weird. I would have stayed maybe 5 days in a spot before moving on. Hell, I'd have planned to spend my last night at the extraction point, or damn close to it.

Maybe it was the water sources. They weren't real clear. But having 20 miles left the last two days was bad planning IMO.

I agree, but I don't think there were dependable water sources between the big lake and the extraction point.  They were lucky to find one for that last night.  Had they known it was there, they might have gone sooner.

I don't understand why they don't all make big floppy hats like Kaiela's.

This seems to be the only franchise that doesn’t employ alcohol to fuel drama conflict and fucking. I think rather than providing them a miraculous kill before extraction, maybe they should start adding hooch to the mix.

Especially on these longer missions and with groups, finding a case of Tito’s could add to the fun if it doesn’t kill a few of them.

I really expected there to me a caiman on the line on day 37.  I've always suspected some production shenanigans when it comes to that sort of thing, but I didn't see anything questionable at the end.  Perhaps with eight people left, they were content to let it play out, assuming at least one would make it to extraction.

I loved seeing Kaiela's summary where they reshowed pussy Cole predicting that her tap would soon follow his.

It certainly wasn’t taken that way, but who among us on Surly isn’t guilty of being a know it all cocksucker and making snarky, cunty replies sometimes. I would post elsewhere if I was fragile, took myself too seriously, and lacking a sense of humor. I’m constantly guilty of being a long winded blowhard using way too many words to try express a thought.

    Jeeze, shut up already.
