drew and bruce are running the show.  it's theirs to lose at this point.

Bruce isn't running anything.  He has good awareness, and is doing well winning advantages, but the only votes he is steering is when others let him.  Drew, Emily, and Dee are playing winning games, with Austin and Julie in positions to make moves.

Bruce will go as far as his advantages take him.  People can win doing that, but it's the more difficult path.  He may have to become a "take them to the end because they can't win" person to save himself at some point, but I don't think that is his game.

You wanted that team gone because the editing was done to make you want that team gone.  That team was the "heel."  But they played the heel only because that's how the producers edited the footage after the race was concluded.  And it made sense to make that team the heel knowing that they kept tenaciously sticking around through non-elimination legs, which ended up infuriating you (and probably me) and made for good television.

Look at the last leg, though.  Do you think they're going to have that dance troupe come in a day early on the spur of the moment?  Do you think they'd be able to have that ballroom available a day early with no notice?  Fuck no--this shit is planned out months in advance.  And maybe you plan for that ballroom to be booked for eight hours, but that doesn't mean you can change the booking the day beforehand.

Venues can be reserved for multiple days well in advance just as easily as they can be for one.  If they are paid enough, I suspect that the ballroom owners would be willing to be on call for months.  As you said, these things are planned well in advance.  You don't think they are going to build in some wiggle room in case flights get canceled, extreme weather, or some other unforeseen occurrence that impacts scheduling?

I get it.  You want the race to be pure with no production manipulation.  I do too.  I just don't believe that it is, at least not entirely.  I have always believed that there are times where decisions are made mid-leg to produce or at least favor a certain outcome.  I could be wrong.

I understand that editing can make any team more (dis)likeable.  I also understand that some teams come by those traits naturally or exhibit behaviors that make for good tv.  If I'm in charge, I'm going to want to see those teams stick around as long as possible.

But not really, because you have to have all this shit set up.  You have to have all the people in place at the challenges, and the venues of for the challenges need to be shuddered to the public/their normal operations.  You can't just have teams showing up a day earlier than anticipated because the producers decided at the last minute that a particular team was in danger of elimination.

And for the record, I'm very skeptical of the hypothesis that non-elimination legs weren't pre-set at the beginning of the race.  Fan favorites are only fan favorites because of how the producers edit their footage after the race is concluded.  So they're not worried that any particular team is going to get eliminated.  They're going to edit the footage to make the surviving teams more popular.

Why not?  Teams have arrived at challenges several hours, sometimes even more than a day apart, even without any production interference.  Do you think those bands, dance troupes, camel wranglers, cheese makers, cat jugglers all just keep at it during that time?  Is it not possible that they are capable of turning the lights on with only a little bit of notice, and are compensated to be ready to go over an extended period time?

Some legs are obviously less malleable than others, especially when pre-arranged flights were in play, but I choose to believe that the production staff favors certain teams to the extent that there may be occasional shenanigans at play.  If it makes any difference, it seemed a lot more heavy handed in seasons past when there were multiple NELs per race, and they always seemed to save a team I wanted gone.

I don't agree.  As noted above, the non-elimination legs always seemed timed to avoid eliminating a fan-favorite or otherwise interesting team.  Probably just coincidental, but it raised the prospect that the results were rigged.

With the "keep racing" legs, there's no possibility of that.  They have to have the challenges up and running well in advance.  So there's no way the producers can make a last-minute "let's make this a non-elimination leg" decision to preserve a favored team.

As to this last leg, I think we all saw what that long flight from India to Frankfurt in coach can do to one's mental acuity and temperament.  Now's when we get more fights and more muddle-brained decisionmaking.

All they have to do is decide if the race will continue now or after a stop.  They can easily have contingencies in place and make that decision during a leg if a fan favorite/evil villain is struggling early.  Obviously, that decision has to be made before the first team arrives, but there is no reason it couldn't me right before they reach the mat.

Nah. Momentum wasn't real back then.

I think it's real now though I'm not sure if it's been voted back into existence yet.

That sounds right.  I wish they would vote out the "wins only count if they are blowouts" rule while they are at it.

We have yet to put together a complete game. That is 100% on Sark. I've never seen a coach mismanage momentum in a game like Sark does. That being said, if he can take a hard look at himself in the mirror and make the needed changes, Texas will be absolutely scary again. The talent is there, the talent is developing, it's just pure coaching mistakes, at this point. Mack was in this same position around 2003.

Congrats on missing the entire Turtle Tom Herman era.

We've seen flashes of "all gas no brakes," but certainly not at the consistency that we want and expect from our program.  The good news is that we are winning games that we would have lost in years past.  Some of that is absolutely due to the talent improvement, and Sark deserves credit for that.  Unlike many of you, I think that Sark is improving on the game calling side as well.  Yes, it is happening slowly and there is clearly still a lot of room for improvement, but the mistakes are fewer and not as costly.

Dominating on the road, especially late in the season, is not as easy as some of you think it should be.  One Top 25 road team won by double digits yesterday.  One.

It won't get any easier the rest of the way, but every one of you should expect that by now.

Think I would be fine with any of the hot red head, the computer science bros or the deaf guy winning.  I’m hoping that’s the final 3.  Although the bearded guys seem to be pretty cool as well.

These are my top three/four as well.

telling katurah about bruces idol backfired on kaleb.  he thought it would be some bonding experience and show honesty and trustworthiness, but she quickly realized how many people her part of letting bruce get the idol to begin with and keeping her out of it.  all she got out of that is the opposite of honesty and trustworthiness.

Yes, I think that was Kaleb's intent, and we were led by the editing to believe that it might work, but I don't believe for a second that Katurah ever had any intention of going through with it.  Willingly going to rocks when you have the power to avoid it would be colossally stupid.  I'm not a fan of Katurah, but I don't think she is that dumb.

  9. I really thought Kaleb was going to be in it for a bit longer.  At least he made the jury.

They made it look like telling Katurah about Bruce's idol is what turned her to the other side, but I think that was editing bullshit.  She would have been crazy to be willing to go to rocks if she could easily avoid it by voting out Kaleb.

I’m confused on why it’s assumed we jump a 1 loss Oregon. The committee for whatever reason have them above us now. Adding a win over Oregon St and Washington is better than B12 championship game.

How could they justify us jumping them at any point the rest of the way if they haven’t already?

I would not say that it is assumed, but they could justify it the same way they can justify putting Oregon in front of us now.  Clearly there is wiggle room for how a team is currently performing.

At this point, all Texas can control is staying at one loss, and winning a little more convincingly.  If those happen and we miss out on the CFP, at least we have improved enough to be in the discussion, which is more than a lot of Texas fans think is possible with Sark.

Maybe not random, but Lance Berkman was the Ranger I hated the most. Dude didn’t give a single fuck about the team that was paying him.

That's how I felt about Richie Zisk.  He was only with the White Sox* one year, but I learned to hate him that year, and never warmed to him when he was with the Rangers.

*The White Sox were one of our biggest rivals back then.  I still love seeing them lose.
