It will be fun to watch WVA and Uijterbrooks try to chase Pog up the mountains.

Yep.  Wout did not appear to be in top form in last year's Tour.  I hope getting to be the team lead motivates him.

  2. It was a good season overall with a lot of skilled players who came to play and no obvious villain(s).

Dee deserved to win, but certainly owes Katurah a big thank you.  I don't necessarily think Julie wins if Katurah votes out Dee.  In that scenario, there is a decent chance that the final 3 are Katurah, Jake, and Austin, as no one would have wanted to take Julie to the end.  Julie might have won the final elimination challenge, but we'll never know.

Speaking of the elimination challenge, were the heights and spaces adjusted for leg length and foot size?  It seemed like one of those challenges that should be adjusted for body size.

Kendra voted for Austin because she has the hots for him.  It's no more complicated than that.

I agree with @Pokoloco that Austin lost the second he told Dee that Julie was the target.  He still would have had to get rid of Drew himself, but at least he would have had a path to win.  I also agree that Dee admitting that she told Julie helped her much more than it hurt her.

Not breaking up Dee and Austin as soon as they became a thing doomed everyone not named Dee.  Prevailing wisdom suggests that Showmances are best avoided if you want to win, but Dee and Amber would disagree.

    Oh yeah, and fuck Jonas!

This likely belongs in the unpopular opinions thread, but I like Jonas.  His style isn't as flashy as the other top riders, and neither is his personality, but I'm wired the same way, so I can identify with him.

  4. I was going to suggest that @Knoxtnhorn rename the old TdF thread so we could keep that rolling, but this works.

To answer your question, yes, Pog can win the double, but I do not think he will.  Barring injury, I expect Visma/Vingegaard to again win the Tour.  I do like Pog for the Giro, but weird shit often happens in Italy, so we'll have to fuck around and find out.  It looks like Visma may give van Aert some leadership leash at the Giro, so that will be fun if it actually happens.

I will be curious to see whether Bora improves enough to seriously support Roglič, and of course the same with Quick Step and Evenepoel.  There is more top end talent than ever.  It's a good time to be a cycling fan.

I don’t know. It was good, well made, enjoyable but it’s a single view for me, a bit overhyped.

I caught it last night, and this was my thought as well.  It had some really good moments, but dragged in several places.  Much of the social commentary felt forced and fell a bit flat.  It's worth a watch if you can't find anything else that appeals to you, but I would not consider it "must see" cinema.

  6. It is okay to like both Friends and Seinfeld.  I'm not sure why the discussion tends to be so polarizing, or why one has to be declared better than the other.  The main reason that they get compared is because they were aired back-to-back for years, during NBC's "must see TV" years.  If they existed years apart or were on different networks, I doubt they'd be discussed in the same breath.  Most people who watched one likely watched the other.  I think both would have been successful without the other, but they absolutely benefited from being shown consecutively.

I liked all 3 of the remaining teams so I was okay with any of them winning.

Greg and John ran the best overall race and definitely deserved to win, but they also seemed like they needed it the least. But it’s not a charity show, so need isn’t the determinant. They earned it, and even though their final leg was sloppy, they nailed the memory challenge to lock up the win.

Joel and Garrett needed it the most. I was a little bit indifferent on them personality wise, and they were for sure underdogs that never seemed dominant in anything, but always just good enough to move on. I wanted them to pull it out because one of them has a special needs daughter and that would be life changing money. Too bad, but I like to think Greg and John gifted them a little something.

Rob and Corey were fantastic. I loved their dynamic and just a great father-son relationship on top of Rob being deaf. I rooted for them all the way, and if not for the special needs daughter thing above, they would’ve been my pick. I don’t think they needed the win because their lives seem rich in ways that money can’t buy, and I suspect they are happy regardless of the outcome. I hope Corey makes contact with his dance instructor.

This pretty much sums it up for me.  I thought it was a bit unfair to have such a physically demanding task (trapeze) that would clearly be much more difficult for some teams, but Greg and John didn't really have any weaknesses, so they were going to be difficult to beat no matter what.

  8. The Mavs have mostly been winning against teams without a pulse, but it's always nice to take down the Lakers.  I don't know how they managed it with most of the team injured, but I'll take it.  The West is just brutally evenly matched.  I can see Dallas finishing anywhere from 2 to 12.  Realistically, the 6-seed feels about right, but so much depends on which teams can get healthy and play to their potential.

Emery always has been a very good manager, but he had a near-impossible job in taking over late-Wenger Arsenal. Front office was unsettled (multiple sporting directors in his 1.5 seasons), a dressing room with senior players who didn't buy-in and undermined him, and fanbase clearly upset at the malaise that had set into the club.  Despite that, he had us on a ~ 10-match winning streak his first season, made the EL Final (which to this day I firmly believe we would have won had we faced a European side instead of a London Darby v Chelski in Baku), and brought Academy products Saka and ESR through to the first team. Nothing but respect for him, and I hope he leads Villa to a second place finish this year - behind us of course.

It took Arteta a few years to get the rot out of the club, fully backed by a stabilized front office of Josh and Edu, and KSE's funding once they acquired 100% ownership of the club.

I agree with all of that, but my grapes would still be sour with envy.
