Fishing Megathread: Looking For Big Girls Who swallow
Picked up the new X3 on Friday. I was pretty excited to get the boat on the water, but we got a good weather window Saturday am to run out for a quick snapper limit and took the Bertram. Fished cleaning fish around 2:00 and FINALLY got the new rig in the water around 3. Fished/ran the boat Saturday afternoon. I’m tremendously impressed with the build quality and fishability of the boat. We upgraded from a 2002 Majek 20V with a 135 Yamaha (light, and relatively quick out of the hole - TWSS), which is for sale. The X3 went everywhere we would take the Majek and had no issues with hole shots in 12 inches. The boat is smooth as shit in chop and dry as a bone. The way the boat turns takes a bit to get used to. It’s hard to describe, but there’s no banking in the turn, the boat just pivots. With the 400R, the boat ran 50 mph at 5800 RPM with 1.8 mpg. At 30/3800 we were getting close to 3 mpg, which I thought was outstanding. Can’t wait to get back on it.

No water test, but I've talked to enough people/researched enough that I'm comfortable picking it up. If it doesn't work out, the used market for them is fairly resilient (almost non-existent) and can probably get out of it for a minimal loss.

Update for anyone who’s interested. I ended up buying a 2023 Shallow Sport X3 25. I managed to find one that someone had ordered and decided he didn’t want. Dealer was taking possession end of last week. According to all the dealers I talked to, they’re running about a year out if you were to order one today, so I feel fairly lucky to have been in the right place at the right time. It even managed to be pretty much the same color scheme I would have ordered anyway. I should be picking it up next weekend. So freaking stoked!

True, but fishing for sport rarely makes any sort of economic sense. And I’d have to run two guides any time I took the fam fishing.

Thanks. Any chance you could send the FB link if you have spare time? Just took a quick look and couldn’t find it. Much appreciated!

Looking to upgrade the sled. We’re currently in a Majek 20V that we bought new around 20 years ago. I’ve got a mess of kids and I’m looking for something a bit bigger. I’m currently thinking about the following primarily: Shallow Sport X3 25 SCB R24 Simmons Rev 25 Anyone have any experience with the boats listed above and or have any other similar suggestions I’m missing? We mostly fish out of Aransas Pass, relatively close to home. Thanks in advance.

Any recs for a guide/outfitter in Jackson, WY? I want to take my two boys (11 & 9) on a half day trip so the can try fly fishing. They’re both great with a spinning rod, but fly will be a new thing for them. Would prefer to wade/walk versus float. TIA.

Down Syndrome
We’re getting pretty close to Ben’s 5th birthday. This kid continues to kick ass. We’ve spent the last school year going to school every day, sometimes for a full day, but most frequently for a half day due to various therapies. This kid continues to slay me: World Down Syndrome Day (3/21) Can’t believe this kiddo is getting so big, and he’s so tough. It’s amazing to see him start making friends at school and see other kids excited to be around him. We’re truly grateful for our community and supporting friends and family. As always, happy to answer any questions or help out if anyone is going through a similar situation.

I know this is a bit off topic, but the “Smartless” podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes is absolutely hilarious. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hey Oil Barons.......
Strategic Popularity Reserves. Doubtful it works. From Trafigura this AM on Bloomberg or the myth of a million barrels a day from the SPR The logistics have never been tested to pump a million barrels a day from the SPR - max has been 500,000 day. The Jones Act requires goods shipped between U.S. ports to be transported on ships that are built, owned, and operated by United States citizens or permanent residents. Due to limited ships that qualify, few barrels will go to the US refiners. The re-configuration of shipping could increase the price of crude delivered to the US. You’re sending a signal to producers that by releasing the oil we’re bringing prices down and that’s going to dis-incentivize that investment that we need. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
