  1. I've seen the tackle called for holding for running the rusher to the ground and both falling.
  2. All of us have watched enough football to have seen that called had Guilbeau just turned the corner a little more.
  3. Thanks for hopping in and commenting. We need more threads like this if you ask me. We have a lot of people here who see football from different perspectives depending on where their experience lies and it makes for good discussion.
  4. Watch Burke's hands and watch Simmons' hands. I would be embarrassed if a true freshman had better hands than me. With any decent hand work at all Burke would be in Klubnik's face. A little bit of effort would affect this throw and they likely don't complete it. Burke should be better than this by now. You are right about Simmons getting manhandled as well.
  5. And that's why in my post I questioned whether they were supposed to switch the routes if they crossed. That would be ideal and how high level defensive schemes deal with these man beaters by pattern matching. Either way Guilbeau is a liability. Bad technique is one thing. A general lack of effort is another. He is also awful at blitzing yet we keep firing him. Ugh.
  6. If you really wanna get pissed off about pass defense watch us vs Washington from the all 22. Penix could sit down and eat lunch back there. Rushers falling face first on the ground and getting back up and he still hadn't thrown the ball yet. Ugh.
  7. Guilbeau has bad eye discipline and situational awareness. Manny hasn't really been tested because most teams don't have time to stand back and let routes develop down the field in long yardage situations. With them catching us with run stoppers on the field and not letting us sub you have to be more cautious as a DB and not jump on all the short stuff like you usually can because you know the ball has to come out. That's really all Manny was guilty of. These guys develop a clock in their heads and know when the ball should be out. Georgia is the same way. Their DBs are jumping short routes in long yardage situations because they know the QB cannot hold the ball.
  8. We aren't Alabama. There aren't 5 stars everywhere. The only 5 stars are the QB, a receiver that has been largely a disappointment to this point, and a couple linemen. Bama was better than you at every single position on both sides of the ball.
  9. Who is insulting Arch. I am calling it how it is. Listen to you all. Dude is in the quarters of the CFP and y'all are ready to jettison this dude into the sun no matter the outcome of this season because you think the guy behind him is better than he is with no proof of that other than two games vs the two worst opponents on our schedule. Colt threw 18 interceptions in 2007 and hadn't done anything great up until then. Ewers threw 6 picks last year, won the big 12, got us into the CFP, and almost the championship game despite us letting the opposing QB throw for 430 yards on us. It's one thing to not be good. Players know when they can't play and accept their lot in life for the most part. But to already be the 3rd in almost every category. To have taken your school to two straight conference championship games, and two straight CFPs? That's a shit sandwich for someone who has helped get us back on the mountain top. In my lifetime the most hated QBs on the 40 were Simms, Ewers, and Gilbert in that order. One of these things is not like the other. Ewers is 2-1 vs OU. He threw for 452 and and 358 in his two conference championship appearances. Even last year in the CFP game. He didn't hit the last throw but dude threw for 318 and no picks. Win at a high rate. Beat OU. Get us to conference championships. Ewers has done all three and we still dislike him.
  10. He may be he may not. Kevin Jennings was a gamer until Saturday. You don't know a kid is a gamer until they face live bullets. The only sure thing was Vincent Paul Young Jr. There was no doubt he was going to wreck shop when he got to college. An absolute freak of nature.
  11. Tennessee plays primarily man and just fucked around and found out is all that was. Their weakness is their QB's ability to read complex defenses and throw into tight windows. Tenn decided "let's clear up his picture for him and try to man cover all 5 star receivers". I drool over the tOSU receiving corp. That's the one thing with us. We have never had top notch receivers. The closest we came was the trio, but even then they weren't as good as WE thought they were. I think that's why our fans think what we currently have is good until you turn on the TV and see what Oregon and tOSU have. Now running backs is a different story.
  12. No I got you which is why I agreed.
  13. It kinda depends on the situation. If the DE is trying to do a spin move and the lineman blocks him with his back to him they won't call it. But if the lineman gets beat and the rusher is about to sack the QB and he pushes him in the back they sometimes call that. It's a real grey area call.
  14. Yeah, Hill is usually aggressive and trusts his eyes. He was very unsure in this game. I think he was just trying to hard to make a play. Sometimes you have to trust your teammates. It happens. Hit the film room and get back at it.
  15. I like us better against Ohio State. The Ducks offense scares me because PK doesn't have a good gameplan vs Gabriel types. He seems to get extremely passive as we saw vs Georgia and Clemson and overthinking it. A spy is all you need. Let your nuts hang on passing downs. Howard runs but he is not fast or shifty so I think PK stays aggressive for that one. If we get Ohio State then we likely win our side of the bracket and I like our chances vs the other side. If we get Oregon unless we can win in a shootout we go home.
  16. SEC doesn't run a whole lot of that. Freshwater does but it just isn't popular.
  17. Hill doesn't usually struggle but Klubnik is a legit run threat and I think it was in his head.
  18. I love big behind the keyboard talkers. Guys like you already ran off one quarterback that hasn't played here in 20 years but still refuse to come back to campus. You think this level of criticism for a QB who is already number 3 in our lifetimes is normal? It's not. Not for a QB who is in back to back CFPs. You only think this is normal because its the same shit you did to Simms. The kid is out there handling it solidly. I am just telling you he can't wait to put Texas behind him and that's a shame. A person doesn't need to be someone's agent to call out shitty fans. And you sir are a shitty fan. I will make sure to tell you that face to face at the next tailgate.
  19. Again, absolutely no pressure from Burke. Meanwhile Simmons beats his man around the end. Moore needs to be in there on passing downs but if you get to the line quickly the defense can't sub. On the back end Manny playing tight trail but the receiver stiff arms him at the last moment and creates separation. This kept happening to him so they kept going after him. Not many receiving corps can do this to him but here we are. 7.mp4
  20. In no huddle situations they knew what we would default to and had plays ready for those defaults based on what personnel they were showing us. It was really good prep. Lincoln Riley would've been proud. I hated that dude because he was good at offense.
  21. This is the play that made a lot of people mad. 4th and 6 and we have Trey Moore on the sideline. Simmons gets free but we get no pocket pressure on the other side so all Klubnik has to do is drift away from him and buy time to throw. On the back end we are playing zone. Everyone seems to do their job except Ant seemed to be focused on what the QB is doing and loses track of the man that ran past him. TD. There are two other dudes avail in case the QB takes off. Trust your teammates. 6.mp4
  22. Again, look at our personnel on the line. 8, 88, 99, and 95. We try a line stunt with Moore attacking the boundary side B gap to occupy the right tackle so Collins can loop around. However that is slow developing and pickup anyway. On the other side Sorrell is being double-teamed leaving Klubnik all day to throw. On the backside we are playing zone. Hard to see without the all 22 but it looks to be Cover 3 with the way Manny bails. Clemson runs a nice zone beater sending a man vertically up the seam to occupy the deep defenders, a man running a 5 yard out to occupy Guilbeau's eyes, and then sneaking a 15 yard out behind them. This is a big boy throw here. 15 yard out from the opposite hash. NFL scouts will be watching this one. Again, it's second and 10 and we get caught with our run stopping package in. 5.mp4
  23. We are in a bear front with 5 down linemen expecting them to run because they have 12 personnel(two tight ends) in the game. Another bad package for what Clemson is trying to do. Collin Simmons is a LB in this package and responsible for dropping into coverage. The actual front as far as rushers go is Burke, Lole, Norton, and Broughton. As you can imagine that is a horrible 4 for pass rushing. Clemson is targeting the LBs. They run 9 up the seam to occupy the safety. 11 on the sideline to pull Manny. The back then runs the numbers and Ant gets caught making sure the QB is staying home and the back runs right by him......touchdown. Ant got caught in conflict a lot in this game. 4.mp4
  24. So fine example of us getting caught in bad packages. We fire the nickel with our best pass rusher, Collin Simmons, being responsible for the back if he leaks out for a route. That leaves Collins, Lole, and Burke left rushing the passer after Guilbeau, who is not good at blitzing, is easily picked up by the LT. That is a good package at stopping the run. Horrible for pass rushing though and Clemson easily walls it off here. Clemson goes to 6'6 240lb Jake Briningstool here, who is a physical mismatch for Manny Muhammed. Their receiver coach is really good with the details because all these guys use subtle pushing to get a little space when the ball is in the air. Manny probably has never seen that on a regular basis in his career. Live and learn. 3.mp4
  25. This is just absolutely monstrous route running. Manny Muhammed is never heard from in games for a reason. That reason is he is really good and sticky in coverage and quarterbacks just don't want to test him. However, he is a guy who plays the man instead of a guy who plays the ball like Barron does. He has good hips and feet and it's hard to lose him in coverage. So when you do throw it his way he is watching the receiver to see when the ball arrives so he can attack the catch area. To beat him you need to be able to get separation. Watch one Bryant Wesco Jr here. Fires off the line and sells the outside release like its a fade. When he gets Manny's hips turned he chops his route down and turns creating separation. Against Manny that's not enough because Manny has the feet to recover. However, instead of sitting and waiting on the ball to get to him Wesco comes back and attacks the football, preventing him from recovering and breaking it up. Just top notch route running that you don't see every week. This kid is good. Take note of the helmet. Never a tell that the ball is headed his way until it's actually in his hands. 2.mp4
