  1. Well, then I feel better about the temperature, but I'm still dumbfounded by how quickly it cooked. Do you 275er's get quicker cook times too?
  2. Put a 12# on the Big Green Egg yesterday afternoon around 4:30 intending to cook it overnight for late lunch today. Little bit of a brain fart and set the temp at 275 (ie pulled pork) instead of the usual 250. It was ready by 10:30. I've never had one cook that fast. There was no stall whatsoever. Wrapped it and put it into a cooler to carve and try to salvage this morning. Could have been a disaster but it turned out just about perfect. Not sure what happened. Got lucky from all that right living I guess.
  3. Why would you post this here? Wouldn't the 7 other guys on the Wyoming message board appreciate it more?
  4. So when are we starting a new thread and who's doing it? I'm not worthy. Dove opener is only two weeks off....
  5. This. You can get plastic training eggs at tractor supply or off of Amazon. Put a couple in each nesting box and they'll all be laying them there in no time. Golf balls - mentioned above - sometimes work, but the training eggs are more effective, imo.
  6. Shot a smallish rattlesnake yesterday on my back porch with a 410. He had a big bulge and obviously had just eaten something. I aimed right behind the bulge and when it split open, out popped a big ground squirrel. Kind of cool. What's strange is that I thought they had immunity to rattlesnake venom? Guess this one did not.
  7. I haven't seen that many in Scurry County, though we have a ton of ECD's everywhere and you can shoot those year round. After last year's sparse pickings, I tried to put in a dove food plot earlier this spring and only about 10% of it came up, even after running sprinklers on it 3 days a week. Probably an error on my part with the planting technique. Will go get an actual cultipacker next year and maybe that will protect it from the birds before it germinates. I figured with sufficient food and only limited water during this drought, we'd know where the doves had to be this season. Oh well.
  8. I think that protein we added this spring is working.
  9. They need to introduce a boot called the "Irony".
  10. And for that matter, his "friend" was even dumber to do it all in front of security cameras like that.
  11. Shady details, yes, but I agree, it's extremely sad. We joke about what an idiot that guy was, but he didn't deserve to be killed by his "friend". Really sad.
  12. Hell yeah. CLICK "WHAT?!?! WHERE?!?!? IS IT TIME?!?!?! WHERE ARE THEY??!?!?!" Love that.
  13. I used to have one who would see the doves flying towards us and start whining softly, then he’d bark at me when I shot and missed. That dude lived to go hunting. Never lost a bird with him. He died about 10 years ago and I still miss him.
  14. My brother got this big ugly last night at my place in Scurry County. Massive cutters and fat as hell.
  15. Got this guy back from the taxidermist today. He cleans up really well.
  16. I know a guy in Snyder who knows some outfitters. PM coming.
  17. My brother got these two little ones on Monday. The porch on the house is only about 150 yards from the feeder so he sat there watching them with his 243 waiting to get lined up just right, then he knocked down both DRT with one shot. The entry wound was small on the first one and the exit wound on the second one was a blast crater through the ribs with guts and innards spilling out. Pretty cool. There was a third piglet there too who just kept running in circles until he saw us driving up in the Mule, then he took the hint and ran off into the brush. Ha ha
  18. Pet sitter invoices us just over $700 for a two week vacation. (14 days) Mrs CL: That's expensive! I thought she was only $50 a day or something like that!
  19. Weekend: "It's gonna rain on Monday and then later in the week we're going to have a FLOOD! TROPICAL DOWNPOURS FROM HOUSTON TO CORPUS CHRISTI" Monday: "Only a quarter inch? Wait until Wednesday!" Tuesday: "We told you it was going to be dry today. Be patient. The models have shifted east and now Houston is going to get pounded." Wednesday: "Not quite what we have expected today, but the main event is now forecasted to be Thursday night into Friday! STILL A FLOOD WARNING!" Thursday: "Uhhh.... Still going to rain a lot tomorrow, we're pretty sure. Might be hit and miss." Friday: "Now it's all in Beaumont. We told you it was an uncertain forecast. Shame on you for believing us." Saturday:
  20. Goddammit, woke up this morning to see all the models trending east. We're not going to see a lick of rain here in Sugar Land out of this and seeing 4-6" possible earlier this week. FML
  21. Killed another snake this morning stealing eggs. Not sure if it's the drought causing it or what, but it's only June and I've already killed 4 rat snakes in the coops this year when most years I might just get one. I guess they are really hungry right now and not finding what they need in the pasture.
  22. five minutes later....
  23. I was close. LOL still, very pretty
  24. Haven’t been in the thread in a while… is that a 686 or a white wing? The forend has me confused. Either way, very pretty.
  25. That’s awesome. Wife and I are here on St John for a few days (first vacay without the kids in a couple of years) and I love watching all the feral chickens. It’s not quite that bad here but it’s close. They are everywhere. This morning I woke up early and sat outside to watch the sunrise with my coffee and the air was filled with continuous nonstop rooster crows for about an hour. I loved it but if I lived here permanently, probably not so much.
