  1. I think you missed my point entirely.
  2. I'm pretty sure I read recently that they had seen 9 month post-vaccine immunity in the very early trial participants. So far the immunity window keeps getting longer every time they re-check. For all we know it could be years. I'm skeptical of Lobo's prediction that we'll get a booster every six months. I'd guess once a year at most.
  3. I'm sure in your circles being disdainful of racism is seen as rebellious or punk. Very on-brand. "Rebellious punks and the thugs they support!"
  4. Far from it. I hate authority as much as I hate racism. Always have.
  5. Practical slave labor and having no respect for other countries' sovereignity or IP laws certainly makes it easier.
  6. I have no idea who that is. Assuming it's some sort of political author that makes you uncomfortable, though. The last political book I read was a Howard Zinn book probably six years ago.
  7. "Lighten up, it was just a joke" is pretty much the standard defense when people get called on saying racist shit, not just on message boards. I'm not tripping about it. Like I said, I personally said "China sucks". But we can and should do better.
  8. Being a hillbilly knows no color. It's equal opportunity. Now if I called you a cracker...
  9. Cases are in a bit of a stall/plateau for the state as a whole just like you see in those hospitalizations in Austin. We probably decided "Covid is over" about a month too early but it's not that big of a deal. Saw a Nate Silver tweet yesterday talking about how Israel hit a two-week plateau at this same time, relative to vaccination percentage. You can see it in their graph for Early March. They stalled out a bit, then presumably got so much vaccine momentum that they broke through it. I expect we'll probably see the same thing in a week or two as we make our final approach into normal. Ding. Fasten seatbelts and chug your double beam and coke in the tiny glass. (Israel Covid graph)
  10. If a European came on this board and posted "America Sucks", most everyone here would rightly tell them to fuck off. And we wouldn't be analyzing the nuance of the "America Sucks" statement and thinking "well, maybe he just meant our government sucks which is pretty true", we'd be neg-bombing them off the board in bipartisan fashion. Just look at Wanker Bob's thread, where he is rightfully getting lit up. The statement that's been made repeatedly, including by me, is "China Sucks". I don't know that it's racist, but it's inflammatory and xenophobic. I know that the hillbillies here live their lives saying and doing offensive and racist shit and then throwing temper tantrums when called on it, but I know you're more nuanced than that based off of what I've seen you post. C'mon dude, "China Sucks" is offensive. And I said it myself in the DT Covid thread, verbatim. It's alright to learn - bolverk's post specifically made me realize that yeah, it's kinda offensive.
  11. So would everyone who brings any kind of money into this state that's not tied to oil. It'd be a fucking disaster. Much like overturning Roe vs. Wade, this is something that no Republican actually gives a shit about, but will leverage when they need to rile the base up.
  12. I don't know the exact year we went but it would have been 01-03, so might have been the same year. That shit was wild and some details of the story will get buried with those of us who were there. Was me, a high school buddy from Austin, my neighbor who grew up in Silsbee, and two of his buddies. Those dudes were fucking crazy.
  13. Hopefully we can just get both at once. #that'swhatshesaid
  14. I was just thinking this thread was one angry white guy with a victim complex away from a quorom, and then, like mana from heaven, look who shows up! We've just about got the whole gang of people who are very sensitive that they and people like them keep unfairly being called racist here.
  15. Same shit for Mardi Gras. One year we ended up partying on the bridge for about four hours. By the time we got to the island everything was closed, so we drove back home. It was awesome. We knew what was coming though so we had beanbag and folding chairs in the back of the truck.
  16. I still think it's a tragedy that Butler International and Peter Pan never got together for a hole that starts on a Butler Tee Box and ends at the T-Rex. A nice six iron over Barton Springs Road. Preferably during ACL Fest.
  17. Can we just make a white fragility thread to contain all of the crying about why there's black history month and BET but not white history month or WET and give our friends here one single place to talk about their feelings on how they're being treated unfairly by society?
  18. It was literally rebutted like four posts after yours.
  19. Yeah, still liking that prediction. I'm not saying we're going to have full NBA stadiums by then, because they're going to be over-cautious, but society will basically be normal then, maybe with masks still hanging around. Full planes, full hotels, full bars and restaurants, etc.
  20. Definitely. I have a lot of issues with the Chinese government, not the people, and I believe I've even made statements that could be taken nebulously. It's something we can all do better, because "Fuck China" isn't really a morally correct thing to say. Fuck the CCP and their terrible ethics, IP theft, and general shitheadery is a more fair statement.
  21. "Mr. Young is struggling with being in jail because it's... jail"
  22. Seems like the rate of increase has stalled quite a bit, and there's enough supply for that not to happen. Gotta be a capacity issue I'd think. There's only so many nurses and techs that can put shots into shoulders. I wonder if we're sort of maxed out or if there are any other tricks we can pull out to keep that increase in daily rates going. Probably not a huge deal because at this rate, by some time in April or May it's going to flip to a demand vs. supply issue, but you hate to see momentum slowing down.
  23. A grown ass adult woman and city councilperson treats her Twitter like it's a fuckin' Myspace account. Good job north Austin.
  24. So NBC was wrong. In this case they were wrong supporting something you wanted to be outraged about and you ate it up and didn't fact check it despite you constantly droning on about the media. Huh.
