  1. what exactly are her qualifications other than probably having a lot of google founder divorce money? Wikipedia tells me that she started and sold the startup but the sale was after she married the google guy. The timing creates questions of the legitimacy of the sale.

  2. Dangers of working for crypto.

TLDR: Binance's African regional mgr detained in Nigeria because the govt demanded a list of Nigerian Binance traders reportedly due to money laundering and terrorism activities. He was under house arrest but allowed to attend services at a nearby mosque. He never returned and left the country on another passport. Nigeria also is filing tax evasion charges against Binance and this mgr.

TLDR squared: Nigeria is not a crypto friendly country.

When are tugboats normally required for harbor navigation?

    Turning or docking activities?

Probably very cost ineffective to have tug boats on the standby when ships are underway.  At least cost ineffective until they take down an entire bridge.

I don't blame Trump for a second. My ass is afraid of large birds that could snatch my eyeball out like I was on the set of Kill Bill. Birds are small dinosaurs that move fast. Keep them away from my face. </anti-bird rant>

    Congrats that's awesome!

I'm not sure what to make of Microstrategy. It's trading at more than twice the value of its bitcoin. During the last cycle that "premium" jumped to 6x. I don't see how it can make it that high this cycle when there's ETFs. People looking for proxies are what boosted it that high last time. That's why I don't understand the current 2x. I will continue to hold though. Still some interesting catalysts like S&P inclusion and of course animal spirits during bull run.

they are an actual company but they are quickly moving to a bitcoin holding company. What I don't know is if their revenues and bitcoin holdings support their market cap. Didn't Saylor recently take on some low interest bonds with the intent of only buying crypto?

My assumption is that many investors are using MSTR as a proxy for bitcoin because some brokerage firms don't allow trading in bitcoin ETFs and/or the investor has no clue how to buy bitcoin. As those subside, I have to wonder if MSTR will see a significant drop. Since I can buy the bitcoin ETF, it's time that I sell MSTR to lock in my profits. At least a decent percent of it.

  6. Read the book numerous times. I liked this version of Chani. It’s always better if you know more of their thoughts and hear more conversations but movies have limits.

    Spoiler

If there is to be a 3rd movie, they will struggle to easily get Chani back into the book narrative from where they left her. Or how she left without Paul talking to her.

One criticism that I have is how the Spacing Guild is treated in both movies. In the books, they are the passive, all-powerful element that drives so much of the economic/political storyline.  Here they are the space version of Greyhound bus.

  7. All you need to know about Candace Owens is that Joe Rogan schooled her intellectually, and that led to Rogan "banning" Owens and a few other alt-right commentators from his show. Rogan banned her because of how ignorant she was, and this from a host/show that has had flat earthers on in the past.

Owens does seem to have improved her speaking game since the Rogan appearance but she just panders to the right who want a black speaker at their events.

  8. Rittenhouse and Turning Point  got what they wanted out of this appearance. Rittenhouse got paid some money to pay his bills for the next month or so. Turning Point got attention which is all these groups want. They will probably receive 10 new speaking requests and fees to based on these videos.

While I understand why many want to attend these talks to speak out against them, giving them zero attention is the best option.

  9. Guy in audience: Kirk has made racist comments.

Rittenhouse: What has Kirk said? (this is a fair question. I don't think Rittenhouse should be held responsible to know any or everything Kirk has said.)

Guy in audience: <rattles off several examples>

Rittenhouse: I can't comment on any of that.

haha. Kyle, don't request questions that you can't or won't answer. Kyle doesn't have the brainpower to take on a hostile crowd.

  10. Hidalgo's opponent, Mealer, was appointed to the METRO board. Basically she was appointed for one of the non-Houston board seats, even though she lives in Houston.

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/transportation/article/alex-mealer-metro-board-19325497.php

Chron says it's unusual that the smaller cities appoint a Houston resident. I guess Mealer doesn't want to go away and still plans to make noise in politics later on.

Oddly her appointment, by this guy, was called a victory.

  11. With so many Trump admin officials coming out to say they won’t vote for him, or telling a story from behind the scenes at the Trump WH, I hope Biden can convince them to be filmed for political ads. Biden is never going to convince some GOPers  to vote for him, but a certain percent might be convinced to stay home on Election Day.

  12. Quote

“This is uncharted because we don’t have any cases on it,” Texas Solicitor General Aaron Nielson said during arguments over the law before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is weighing whether to keep the law on hold.

Nielson could not answer several enforcement scenarios as Priscilla Richman, the chief judge on the appeals court, peppered him with hypotheticals.

What if someone who entered the country illegally in Arizona moves to Texas after living there for five years? If an asylum seeker arrives in Brownsville and is given a notice to appear in federal court, would they be exempt from arrest under the law?

“I confess, your honor, I don’t know,” Nielson responded at one point.

Some law enforcement agencies said they had been waiting on Tuesday to begin enforcement, at least until the courts issue a final ruling

Like the dog that caught the car, apparently Abbott’s administration did zero planning on just how the state can enforce immigration.

I am curious, not trying to be a dick, but what is the ceiling for bitcoin?
I have never really been able to grasp the economic model that drives the valuation, other that it goes up because everybody wants some.
Explain to me like I'm an idiot, what would be a good entry point and exit point for this as an investment.
I get that it is an alternative to a fiat currency (US$) because those can get devalued by disaster, coup, cyber attack that locks up the banking system, etc.

No one has any idea what the ceiling could be. If bitcoin gets into the mainstream of retirement investing or sovereign funds, it could go sky high. For retirement investing, someone may not see a bitcoin spot ETF on their 401k portal any time soon or ever, but it could very easily start to fall into the age targeted funds. Blackrock is already making noise about putting limited crypto into traditional ETFs.

As for sovereign funds, publicly this has been limited to smaller funds like with El Salvador but what happens if the oil rich Middle East funds decide to drop $100b into crypto?

Perhaps the ceiling was $73K. My opinion to friends is to consider putting 1-3% of their net worth in bitcoin. If it goes to zero, the impact is negligible. Not zero but low. If the price 10x, then their 2% investment just gave their net worth a sizable boost. Or don't do it. Someone isn't going to be ruined if they avoid crypto.

  14. I will be surprised that Trump doesn't find a judge somewhere that will give him a temp reprieve from posting a bond for the amount. But then again people like Trump eventually run out of options.

  15. Didn't Navarro just decide to ignore the Congressional subpoena and not show up? I realize others have done that and not been indicted but not a smart move to break the law just because "everyone else did it."  If he had shown up and claimed executive privilege, then at least he would have an argument.

I'm out of my depth here, but I would think that it would be Trump who would have to convince a judge to keep Navarro silent due to executive privilege.

Navarro basically tried to invoke executive privilege as a defense when he spoke to the media instead of a court. Crazy how so many will go to prison for Trump.

  16. Since the national and state GOPs want Trump as their candidate, I saw let the party organization pony up the money. Maybe give the Vermont and DC GOP parties a break since they went with Nikki.

They don't accept real estate as collateral, or they don't accept his real estate as collateral? Those 2 are not necessarily the same.

Would any financial institution not believe that they would struggle to get money from Trump, even if he has the equity in the properties? You have a guy asking for money and he could be any or all of the following situations in less than a year: in prison, in bankruptcy, in the White House.
