They explain in the article but the gist (as I understand it) is that he didn't have to disclose his past criminal activity because he was a juvenile when it happened. And his family was able to keep it out of the news for the most part so it wasn't a case where everyone knew about it and would recognize his name several years later. This month's Texas Monthly has a fascinating article on a shooting that happened at Murchison Middle School in 1978. A student walked into the classroom, shot his teacher, and left. The shooter was the son of LBJ's former press secretary. He spent a few years at an inpatient rehab facility in Dallas, then went to law school at UT and still lives in Austin. I've lived here 21 years and have a student at Murchison and have never heard of this. Great read if you have a few minutes.
If there's a thread for stuff to do during isolation that's not geared towards kids and teens, point me in the right direction. For now I'll just share this here - we are huge Geeks Who Drink pub trivia fans, and if anyone else is too you probably saw that they had to lay off just about all of their staff. But, because they are awesome, they are going to do livestreams of quizzes on Twitch, and you can donate to help keep those going - right now it's basically run by volunteers. They did the first one tonight and while it's not quite the same as doing it at an actual bar, it was still fun and brought a small sense of normalcy to our lives. Twitch channel here.
In our house, when a dog is laying on you you are exempt from having to move from your position lest you disturb the dog. We call this dog law. Everyone in the family knows that if the person the dog is on needs something, the other family members are to get it for them or help them out in whatever way. Need a drink refill? Invoke dog law and someone will do it for you with no complaints. Need to go to the bathroom? Sucks to be you because you can't get up. Etc.
AISD offered curbside lunches to children who need them yesterday, and if schools are closed after Spring Break they'll do this M-F starting March 23. The full list of locations and times/details is here.
Also, if anyone has young kids and is trying to figure out how to entertain them during this time of social distancing, someone posting this sample schedule on FB and it's a pretty good jumping off point.
Right, like he's always yelling. He reminds me of Craig on Parks and Rec. THIS WINE IS FROM SOMEPLACE BEAUTIFUL AND WARM AND AMAZING WHERE EVERYONE IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND THE NIGHT SKY IS FULL OF STARS!
I have nothing against Bernie personally but out of the remaining Democratic candidates I think he's the least likely to beat Trump. I think if he gets the nomination it almost assuredly gives Trump the win. Way too many brainwashed GOPers who lose their minds when he describes himself as a socialist. I mean, I voted for Warren and I will vote for whoever the Democratic candidate is in the national election, but if Bernie gets the nomination I'm getting ready for four more years of Ol' Combover.
I didn't think it was possible to be "inside" a tornado - I thought it was like a vacuum in there. Is that what he actually means, like being in the eye of a hurricane?
I mean, the rule about being 24 hours fever-free is what I would assume, but again, I don't know if that applies to this particular illness.
A loved one is having brain surgery Thursday (here in Austin) and while I would normally not worry a ton about something like coronavirus at this point, this whole situation has me worried more than usual. I assume his immunity will be compromised for a while.
My dogs are major chewers. Water buffalo horns are favorites. For plush toys, the only ones that've ever lasted more than a day are Fluff n'Tuff brand. The beach ball is the best one because it doesn't have a head or limbs for them to chew off instantly, but others that have lasted a long time (more than a few weeks) are the caterpillar and hippo. In Austin you can get them at Kriser's on Great Hills, but they also have them on Amazon.
Rocket's back living that cone-free life, at least till it's time to operate on the next hip. He's recovering really well, considering he had part of his femur removed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Last weekend at Jason's Deli I saw a kid pick up a salad bar plate, lick it, use tongs to get a bunch of shredded cheese and put that on his plate, glance at his mother next to him to make sure she wasn't looking, then ditch the tongs to stick his hand in the shredded cheese and put more on his plate. So that's how we're all going to get coronavirus.
