I don’t think the guy should get the job permanently either but this song and dance after every game depending on the result is tiring.

If this team has a GREAT year in the Big 12, they are still in line to lose like 5 more games. There are two active coaches in the Big 12 who have above .500 records in conference play the last 3 years.

I couldn't agree more.  Even if Beard was still coaching the team, I wouldn't have gone into that game with confidence AT ALL.

Meh. We could be 1-4 or 2-3 in conference.

In previous years, I have no doubt we would be 1-4 or 2-3.  I'm mainly encouraged that we are still finding ways to win even though we aren't playing that great.

It will be interesting to see what happens the rest of the season.  Every day this is more Terry's team.  As the schedule keeps getting harder we will see what they are all made of.  They won't be able to let teams like Kansas get out to big leads.

  3. My closing lineup would be Hunter, Carr, Rice, Allen and then whoever is playing better between Disu and Bishop.  If you have to go big then I would sit Allen before any of the guards.  They all shoot 80%+ from the line and can all handle the ball at a pretty elite level.

  4. I like this team much better than last year’s team. Rice is more clutch than anyone on that team. Carr is playing better off the ball. Disu is better.  The freshmen are supremely athletic and fun to watch. The team is finding ways to win.

Those damn Shaka teams would have like 10 losses by <5 points. This team is winning those games.

Hunter is the difference in the team being good or being special. I think he will pull it together.

Most of the key players in this team are seniors. This is a win or bust season and wanting to keep the team intact is not a reason to keep Terry. The team isn't going to be intact.

Beard was building a culture where we could essentially reload every year. With him not around to do the reloading the next couple years might be rough, especially if we screw up this hire. Can Terry do that, even if he cuts down the nets in April?

I'm just spit-balling here, but I think Terry might be able to leverage winning a National Title into some decent recruits and transfers. Of course, he isn't going to win a title, so it is moot.

He's a good guy doing an OK job in a shitty situation. You can't look at the on court performance and be happy with it.

I think he is doing a little better than OK.  The whole Beard situation had the potential of completely splintering the team going into a brutal Big-12 slate.  I think he has done a great job under those circumstances.

I mean, he is 8-1 with wins over Massey #16, at #32, #41, at #59.  Only loss was to the #11 team (although it was pretty painful). Yes it seems like we should be winning bigger than we are, but a lot of those would be close losses in previous years.

Again, I think we can do better, but give the man his due.

Terry has zero chance. Discussion of Terry is initiated by idiots. Someone said Steve Fisher above as a comp. Lol. Lemme know when Terry wins a natty. This roster isn’t good enough to win a natty without a great coach getting lucky, and Terry let KSU score 116 points in Austin. He’s not getting a short-term deal, either. For fuck’s sake, think before you post.

Do you really think the only way Terry keeps his job is if we win a title?  What if we win the Big 12, something we have only done 3 times? What if we make it to an Elite 8, something we have only done 4 times in the last 50 years? What if we make a Final Four?

This roster is definitely talented enough to do any of the above. We are winning games with our best player playing like shit. If they put it together they are capable of having the best year in school history. And if Terry pulls it off, it will be under extremely difficult circumstances.

As I have said, I think we can do better. But saying he has zero chance is stupid.

KD deserves much of the criticism and skepticism that's been lobbied against him for some of his professional and social media decisions.

But nobody should be questioning his worthiness as a Longhorn. He's been a fantastic ambassador and reps the 'Horns every chance he gets. He's absolutely done more for the university than it ever did--or could have done--for him.

In short, Texas was--and is--lucky to have him around the program. Fifteen years on, he is still relevant and a major draw for young athletes.

Yes... but is he one of our own?  SMFH.

The question in the OP has been answered. And fine, maybe it was a valid question at the time. Anyone is free to criticize him and his choices all they want. I don't love everything that he is done. I wish he had gone to Boston.  And I hate he has paired up with morons Kyrie and Ben Simmons.  But only an idiot would question whether he is a Longhorn.  Imagine having a perpetual "Vince Young --- One of our own?" post living on the front page of the football board because he once threw his pads into the stands.

So mods, either let us start a new catch-all Durant thread, with a proper name, or change the name. But it is a disgrace to have this thread, with this title, on the front page of a longhorn basketball board for YEARS. Moreover, it tells any potential high level recruits everything they need to know about our basketball fanbase.

I understand why we love KD. He's great. And he hasn't been an embarassment for UT off the court, other than some dumb social media activity. But, i will never budge that going to GS was a bitch move that ruined the NBA for 3 years.

If he didn’t go to Golden State he would have gone to Boston and they would have been great too. And if not LeBron would have just won more titles. Or would you rather he stayed in OKC with Westbrook?

Regardless of all that it is still moronic to question whether he is “one of our own”. The thread title should be insulting to any UT basketball fan. I honestly can’t believe we still have it on this site. And it isn’t even possible to start a NEW thread so we are stuck with this disgrace.

The title and past contents of this thread doesn't even crack T50 in the surly hall of regardedness and terrible takes.

Disagree. The OP was questioning whether the best athlete in UT history (from a career perspective), who won every major award at Texas, who has his jersey RETIRED and who continued to support the program to the tune of $3.5M... is actually "one of our own".  On a UT sports board, I don't think it is possible to have a worse take.
