Forgot to mention this. I have a 4yo and a 2yo. And I work. And I'm starting another venture. Saving the drive to the gym, the walk in, and all the other random BS has probably saved me 3-4 hours a week in the aggregate.

We got one around Thanksgiving. I was around 225. I've mostly been "in shape" but not beastmode at around 215 for about 5-6 years. I'm now 201.6 as of this morning and withing spitting distance of the 100s for the first time since I was in the military almost two decades ago, when I was ripped in the low 190s at 6'3". I highly recommend Peloton if you're borderline psychotically competitive, like me. I could play pick-up hoops or do something else competitive all day, but have spent maybe 4-5 dozen hours in a gym in my life (outside of required team activities like lifting). With Peloton, I can talk shit to the other people on the leaderboard, even though they can't hear me. I compete against my previous PR. I pick classes with a lot of active participants in order to compete against them, and so on. Also, I pick classes for the music. IMO, it's a big deal that they've licensed so much music so that you can jam out to great music while you ride. I've discovered some new artists while getting a workout, which is nice. I'm only 4 months in, but so long as enough other people are subscribed and active to keep the competitiveness going, I think it will remain a good fit for competitive people.

Shout out to this thread. Was in town last weekend. Rosita's is like 1/2 block from my BIL's place and I tried it. Then we did a Shoal Creek (crawfish) --> West --> Dirty --> East day drinking extravaganza and stopped by Vaquero between Dirty and East 6th. Both taquerias slammed, went hard, etc.

The Cloak Room is a terrible place.

@4doorsMoreWhores, we have good food, just not those regional specialties. I can get tacos al pastor from a trompo, but it's like a 30 minute drive away. I can make high-quality BBQ but don't feel like tending a fire or, again, driving 25+ minutes. The savory Texas-style kolaches are, uh, something really weird and I love them. I'm 3/4 Slav and there's nothing like that in my communities. I remember my native Texan wife's surprise when I told her that kolaches are not "real" kolacky, but are instead a local creation that's totally different, but crazy delicious. @Anastasis, I did not. It was like 8am. Not sure I've seen a shift bar in Austin that opens at like 6-7am for folks getting off a midnight shift. @Lobo, I can get pizza at home! Hell, there are two Detroit-style places better than Via 313 within a couple miles of me. It's the pizza-style kolache and the hot polish kolache that I can't get, since those are just local/regional. I grew up eating traditional kolacky and, while they're okay, I love the Texas style and, in particular, those two. And, as for walking, I love walking and exploring new cities to get a feel for them in a way you can't in a bike or car. My BIL is a student at UT and the last couple years we've AirBnb'd a place for 3-4 weeks over the holidays, so I've explored the neighborhoods we've stayed in (Bouldin Creek and E.Austin/Cesar Chavez) and areas adjacent, but I've never had reason to explore that area up Lamar where the Kolache Factory is, or Hyde Park, or West Campus/Tarrytown, etc. So, really, walking is a good way to see a new city and burn calories without the intensity of my usual workout when I'm a bit hungover (or worse) every day. -

Hehe, I tried to walk at least 5 miles per day and explore new areas while I was there to make up for all the food and drank. Only so many times I can do the greatest hits. Basically picked a direction and went each day. Also, I'm a northerner and a big-time sucker for the pizza and hot polish kolaches. Can't get them at home and I'm only in Texas a few times a year. Always make sure to get them, good BBQ, and tacos al pastor from a trompo, since I can't get them at home. -

I was in Austin for the conference last weekend and walked from my hotel near 2nd and Congress and up past the Capitol to the Kolache Factory at Lamar and like 38th. Just to the west of the Capitol building, I saw a sign for the "Cloak Room." Just about shit myself. Well done on naming the forum (back at least to the Shaggy Bevo days, IIRC). CSB, I know, but it was cool to see it in person and connect the dots. -
Shoutout to @MillerEP and the others that put translations of Cyrillic embeds directly under the embed. It makes this thread a LOT easier to follow. (And now I'll quit gumming up the thread, as my hypocrisy does know bounds.)

As an ex-private and ex-biglaw lawyer, I can say the analogy kinda holds, even though I picked on you a couple posts above.

Small sample size of one internet douchebag but, starting from when I was a shithead 18-1/2 years old private and fresh out of AIT, the percentage of SGTs-1SGs that had me thinking "damn, he/she is squared away" was a lot higher than for 1LTs-MAJs. And not just in the "pressed BDUs and shiny boots" way, but in the "they quickly picks thing up, gets their troops, and can cajole, coerce, etc. just right to get done what needs to be done" kind of way. I'm 40 years old, 16 years out, and a few laughably douchey degrees older, but I still often go back to the core lessons I picked up from my NCOs. No surprise that the Ukeleles are kicking ass if they have NCOs like ours. [Note: I am 3/8 Ukrainian so I get a pass on the "Ukelele" thing, fuckers.]

Cook one and I bet you the war will be over before it cools off. NBD really.

FWIW, I stopped by a panel last week at SXSW that included John Skipper, who used to run ESPN. The consensus on the panel was that consumers are screwed out-of-pocket by streaming, generally, because the advertising revenue stream isn't there, so it needs to be made up by direct payments from consumers. CSB, but I thought it interesting coming from that panel. given their expertise.

Not trying to CR it -- being a bit pedantic, sure -- but he was not an American military officer killed in battle, but rather an enemy combatant killed in battle against the Americans.

I dunno about you guys, but all this Ukraine stuff has me concerned Russia won't be much help when the aliens inevitably invade us.

That's not what they mean by "shelling," my dude.

Congrats! I had a last-gen CTS V-Sport and then upgraded to the ATS-V after I fried my brakes at a track day. I was very into the Alpha platform and LF3/LF4 engine, but sold the ATS-V when the used car market went bonkers last year. I'll probably look to get a CT4-BW once the market calms back down and I can get one like a year old with <10k miles, which is how my cheap ass rolls. Let me know if you have questions or want references to some enthusiast groups. BTW, I believe the ATS-V/CT4-BW is superior to its big brother counterpart once you tune it, since it's already more nimble but becomes comparable from a power/weight perspective. But I'm biased :).

Michigan has more money than anyone in the Big Ten and just about anyone in college football. I think they're a lot like Texas in that NIL will finally allow them to deploy the money cannon that the rules didn't allow them to deploy before. If you believe that tradition/infrastructure plus booster money is the recipe for future success, Michigan is as well positioned as anyone now that the booster money can be aboveboard. If I were a fan from a poorer states or poorer school, I'd worry about losing status (LSU, OU, Clemson?).

I'll be interested to see what happens with the Maverick, F150 Lightning, and non-baby Bronco. Seems like there's a lot of demand for them and, seeing what the other poster posted above about chip shortages, I don't see it resolving itself anytime soon. In any case, bummed to say I sold my car that I was a fanatic about. Prices are just too damn high right now to hold onto a fun car. A few pics from my for-sale listing behind the spoiler alert so I don't jam up the thread too much. GREAT car, but too nice to make it a total track rat car out of it, and I didn't like tracking my DD on top of it. I'm thinking of just DDing my truck and then making my next track car a dedicated track care like a Miata that I can respectfully rag on while maintaining it well, and then once I'm not paying for daycare for two kids, I'll get something like an Ariel Atom. I haven't seen the discussion move this way in this thread -- it could be because no one is interested -- but have you guys ridden in (or driven) an Atom or a Caterham or something like that? I did a ridealong in an Atom and, after that, my ATS-V felt like the biggest, fattest pig in the entire world.

Yep. Last time you could get one from GM in the US was 2018. Dodge only sells their "Classic" Ram in RCSB, not the newer nicer Rams, and that's 209" anyway. Similarly, RCSB F-150 is 209"+ as well. Current Ranger, Colorado/Canyon, Taco, and Ridgeline don't offer a regular cab and they're all around 211". I beat this whole thing to death researching it and found my only option was just going used full-size RCSB in order to fit something in my garage. Funny thing I remember seeing a while back... Someone wanted a new GMC so badly they chopped a new one up: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/gm-wont-make-2020-short-bed-regular-cabs-so-this-guy-made-one/.

$0.02/TLDR: Maverick has a use case for urban-dwellers who want a truck for basic hauling/VERY light towing. I do a lot of work renovating our (old) houses before we sell, and want a truck bed for dump trips and other activities that beat the shit out of the truck bed. I've usually lived in east coast/midwest cities that were built up a long time ago for America. It's common for street parking to be a battle to the death, so we typically try to have a garage. Many/most garages from pre-1910 or so are 20x20 or 20x10, were often used for horsed (rather than horseless) carriages, and can't fit a vehicle much larger than 200" once you account for the garage's framing and garage door(s). In our last house, I was able to extend the garage about 2 feet to the property line (alley access), so I bought a newer GMC Canyon and had room for four. In our current house, I have about 209" of space and bought a 2017 GMC Sierra Rrgular Cab Short Bed (205.6"!) and it's basically going full-on mechanical centipede with my garage door and wall. Oh, and GM quit making Reg Cab short beds except in Mexico/overseas, Ford's is too long because of that notch behind the seats, and Ram only sells the janky Ram "Classic," so it's used for me if I want full-size, and impossible for mid-size because none of them are <205" or so, even the Ridgeline. If the Maverick has decent payload and a bed where I can strap down 8' or 10' lumber just fine, I'd be all about it even if it's not body-on-frame. The XJ Cherokee was fine as a unibody and the warrantied stats for the Ridgeline are fine, so I'm hopeful it doesn't just turn out like a Subaru Baja or El Camino, but more like a smaller version of the new Ridgeline. Gotta be more people like me out there who want it for a use case like mine, or even just to be easier to parallel park, if the general trend toward urbanization I've been reading about is even half true.

In any case, Sy financial masterminds ... when do I switch my 401k over to money markets or something like that? Only posters with crystal balls please respond.

I'm not good at navigating the BLS' site, but it'd be interesting to see median earnings and quartiles or something like that. Averages don't mean much in this context, IMO.I'm not good at navigating the BLS' site, but it'd be interesting to see median earnings and quartiles or something like that.
