  1. Wow. Great episode. This show gets better and better. One side note is that while I knew that Paula Abdul was a Laker Girl, I had no idea she was in the very first group. (Looking on the Wikipedias, I don't think she was technically the "first" Laker Girl, as it stated in the show... it does say she was in the first group that was selected from a pool of like 700 girls, and within a year she was the head choreographer.)
  2. Just from the trailer, Goose Jr., seems like he sucks. I quote the from Miramar Naval Air Station's Board of Inquiry regarding the incident on 29 July 1986: "The spin was induced by the disruption of air flow into the starboard engine. This disruption stalled the engine, which produced enough yaw rate to induce a spin which was unrecoverable. There was no way Lieutenant Mitchell could see or avoid the jetwash. This Board of Inquiry finds that he was not at fault in the accident of 29 July. His record will be cleared. He's restored to flight status without further delay." FUCK YOU, GOOSE JR. IT WASN'T MAVERICK'S FAULT.
  3. Agree that Zero Dark Thirty is awesome. Django was fantastic, but I find it one of the least re-watchable Tarantino films (Hateful Eight being the least re-watchable for me). Disagree strongly on Argo. It was a great piece of popular filmmaking, it just shouldn't have won Best Picture. Zero Dark Thirty should have.
  4. To me his most memorable thing is Zero Dark Thirty. LOL every time I see him in anything all I can see/hear is "WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW BIN LADEN!!!!????"
  5. You ever meet someone who lived in a desert climate for like 20 years? I've seen 40 year-olds whose face looks like an old catcher's mitt. (But yeah obviously Ewan is gonna look way better than Alec Guiness at the same age... just go with it...)
  6. One moment I loved but forgot to bring up... when Buss jumps into the pool in Palm Springs and yells "FUCK" underwater... Great double-homage of The Graduate and Boogie Nights when it shows Reed under water after busts his back doing the "full flip", lol.
  7. Good summary. The genesis was back in the 80s... it was Gary Ward's idea, IIRC, to generate more excitement in for college baseball in the state. Back then, the Big 8 played 5 conference games against everyone. So what they would do is play 2 in Norman/Stillwater, depending on whose year it was to be the home team, and then generally play 2 in OKC and 1 in Tulsa. The Tulsa/OKC part switched around off and on, from all 3 in one site to the 2/1 split being different. When the Big 12 started and it switched to 3 game series against everyone, they kept the Tulsa/OKC sites in favor of the school sites and would play 2/1 in OKC/Tulsa on a rotational basis... usually one site would get Friday/Saturday and then the other would get Sunday. After a while, they started playing 1 or 2 non-conference games at school sites just because Bedlam was/is a big draw in both locations. Then 'Stache pretty much covers the rest from the past few years when they went back to campus sites for the actual conference games.
  8. Necro reply here, but honestly the issue wasn't that they "lost" their dogfighting skills. The issue was that they were relying on missiles as a tactic in Vietnam but the 1st gen radar-guided and heat-seeking missiles were notoriously unreliable. They got to the point where they would shoot two at every target because of how bad they were.
  9. Yes but it's actually not great from a "fan comfort" standpoint, unless you are in the Club Seats or the west end zone. The older lower-level seating is VERY cramped and uncomfortable. And unless you are sitting very close to the aisles, it can be very difficult to actually access your seats. That's what this renovation is primarily addressing.
  10. Yep. Although I have mixed feelings about reducing capacity. Like it or not, attendance/capacity is one of the factors looked at for programs that are going to sit at the CFB "big boy" table. We can easily support 60k, so I wish our capacity was closer to that, but I do get that the stadium, as it is, is not a very comfortable place to sit when it's packed.
  11. LOL I always get nervous when this thread is bumped. Glad to see it was good news.
  12. Yes. Grumpy/surly Kareem is awesome, especially contrasting with the infectious overbearing positivity of Magic. Another great episode last night. And I loved the basketball theory stuff with Jack McKinney. The on-court stuff also looked good to me. Was it as good as actual NBA play? No; but it was good enough for the show that it wasn't a distraction.
  13. I think OU and West Virginia are capable. So I'm not sure the drop-off is massive there, even though the top 4 are clearly better. But yeah Baylor, K-State and Kansas range from "meh" to bad.
  14. 11 straight wins for my Pokes. Now sitting at 18-6. We have a mid-week non-conference game against OUsux in Tulsa this week. Should be fun to smack them around again.
  15. Yeah I'm 100% fine with not showing the basketball. We know how that turns out. The behind-the-scenes stuff of how it all came together is more interesting to me. But if I recall from the trailers, we will be seeing some basketball. "Larry Bird" is in the cast list also. So we'll definitely see some.
  16. LOL this. I'm sure we'll lose our mid-week game to them, as per the norm.
  17. LOL I thought the same thing. "He had this comb-over that was quite... elaborate..."
  18. FYI our game vs. ORU has been moved to tomorrow (3/23) due to weather in Tulsa.
  19. Yeah I had a weird memory like we played them in the Regionals or Super Regionals a few years ago, but I think I was thinking of St. John's. We played them in the Fayetteville Regional a few years ago.
  20. Thought of a few more - the first three Foo Fighters albums: Self-titled, The Colour and the Shape, There's Nothing Left to Lose Also - Stone Temple Pilots - Core, Purple, Tiny Music Another one where they have made 4 great albums, so really you just need to decide if you start with #1 or #2 - Turnpike Troubadours. Tough call because so many great songs are on their debut, but I'd go with: Goodbye Normal Street, The Turnpike Troubadours, A Long Way from Your Heart
  21. Wilco - You could probably pick any combination of their first 5 albums. I'll go with: Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born Old 97s - Wreck Your Life, Too Far to Care, Fight Songs Spoon - To be fair, they've made 9 consecutive great albums, but if I were to pick three, I'd go: Kill the Moonlight, Gimmie Fiction, Ga x5 Vampire Weekend - I think all 4 of their albums are great, so really the question is start with their debut or Contra? I'd probably do the latter, so: Contra, Modern Vampires of the City, Father of the Bride
  22. I don't believe we are getting past season 1 at all. I read somewhere (Variety maybe?) that this show only covers the 1979-80 season. I think the idea is that we all know how it turns out, but this series shows how all of the pieces were put into place.
  23. OSU completed the sweep of Seton Hall. Now have won 7 straight. And man, I was just looking at Seton Hall’s record they are 1-16 now. Like holy shit. It seems like it would actually be difficult to have a record like that in baseball. I have a memory that Seton Hall had a decent program, but maybe I’m thinking of something else? They’ve played a tough schedule, but still. Oddly enough, their only win is against Florida in Gainesville.
  24. You feel that “women and children first”, in this day and age, is a bit of an antiquated notion….
