  1. Oh I'm sure he knew. My take is that's why he was locking the kids out of the process as a precaution. His plan was likely to (1) Get things locked down with GoJo because that was the top priority (2) Then offer Caroline whatever to get the kids votes back (3) Tell the kids to fuck off and profit. However, he also probably considered that Roman (at least) would stay with him and possibly Shiv. Remember it would take all 3 kids being on the same page to tank his plan. What Tom did was alert Logan that (a) the kids knew about it before he had a chance to get everything locked down and (b) they were all on the same page. So it accelerated his plans to get all of his voting rights back and he also knew what was coming at him when they arrived.
  2. LOL this. It was blatantly and plainly obvious, from Tom's discussion with Greg to Logan affectionately patting Tom on the shoulder after he just went scorched earth on his kids.
  3. Tom 100% blew it up by warning Logan. The thing about Tom the entire time is that he's been watching, paying attention and waiting. Initially, he was happy to work his way up the corporate ladder leveraging his marriage to Shiv, because she wasn't a "threat" to his position in the company as long as she was working as a political consultant. But her getting involved in the company changed everything for Tom, particularly when she became a candidate for CEO and began being mostly dismissive of Tom's aspirations: "Oh yeah... yeah... you'll be there..." was often her refrain. Tom deciding to offer himself up to prison to Logan was the key turning point for him, because it changed the nature of his relationship with both Logan and Shiv. He saw how Logan had a new respect for him and he also saw how Shiv didn't necessarily give a shit that he was going to go to prison. The diner scene with Kendall laid out Tom's intentions. He was always going to side with Logan. Because, as noted above, he's been watching and he knows that Logan would figure out a way to outmaneuver the kids. Also, this:
  4. This is pretty interesting and plays into something they brought up on the Ringer podcast... The main difference between Tom/Greg and the Roy sibs is that Tom/Greg observe their surroundings, listen to people and act accordingly. The Roy siblings are always 100% sure they are right all the time and don't listen to anything except what's already in their heads. Roman should have paid attention to what Gerri was saying instead of just sending her dick pics all the time.
  5. Yeah it sucks to lose him. But hard to compete when it's Ohio State AND he becomes the highest paid assistant in Ohio State history. FFS.
  6. He wasn't trying to fuck them over, per se. He just slowly realized over the course of the past 3 seasons that none of his kids are/were worth successors to run the company: Kendall with his drug/alcohol problems and delusions of grandeur Shiv is a phony with no experience in business whom nobody at the company respects Roman was looking more and more like he *could* do it but he was also done in by his own proclivities and the accidental dick pic sealed his fate with Logan Connor is Connor The "make your own pile" comment was also pretty telling. Logan clawed the way to the top on his own and there's something about his kids' position of inherited power (which he is obviously responsible for) that he just doesn't respect. Recall also the "How much does a gallon of milk" rant in the "Boar on the Floor" episode. Which brings us to Tom. It's not like Tom's family is poor... IIRC both of his parents were/are attorneys in Minneapolis or something? But he's obviously not from Roy-level money, and in addition to being thankful to Tom for falling on the sword for Cruises and also staying loyal, Logan has to like that Tom is out there working on "making his own pile" so to speak. Tom is now the favorite son. But Kendall and Roman struck out at their chances in that role for various reasons, mostly their own demons/weaknesses. It will be curious to see what happens with Tom.
  7. I will say… the three siblings car ride on the way to Logan had very strong “Nothing could possibly go wrong” vibes… it was practically a McBain scene where the partner is talking about retiring in two days to spend more time with the family three seconds before he’s riddled with bullets. The whole thing was goddamn glorious.
  8. Always thought it was goddamn amazing that the record company needed a single and they were like, “Here you go. Take this masterpiece from our next album that is such a masterpiece that it doesn’t really need it.” 😂
  9. Side 2 of MMT fucking slams and goes hard: Hello, Goodbye Strawberry Fields Forever Penny Lane Baby, You’re a Rich Man All You Need is Love I know they were pre-released singles, but still. Side 2 of that album fucking rocks.
  10. Just anecdotally from listening to podcasts, reading books and articles about lots of rock bands I love, it seems that MOST don’t know “music theory”, are able to read music, etc. The vast majority seem to just learn by picking up a guitar or sitting down at a piano and just playing and playing and playing.
  11. GO ARMY! (My brother is a West Point grad and my Dad is an Army Vietnam vet)
  12. I mean, I’ve been shit fucking hammered in public and at games before and it’s never even occurred to me to get into a screaming match with other fans, let alone throw a beer on someone and/or get into a fight. Like I said… it’s behavior that I just simply don’t understand. Of course I made it through high school on the first try, so that’s probably a leg up on most of these fucking Neanderthals.
  13. Same. I seriously feel like these fucking apes who go out and behave this way in public are a different species than I am. What in the ever living fucks make people act like this?
  14. You guys who wouldn’t bang Shiv are fucking nuts. Dat ass. Dem tittays. And she’s a soulless ginger firecrotch who would be up for ANYTHING.
  15. I'm not sure I agree with that. Logan probably has sociopathic tendencies. The kids are all fucked up in different ways specifically because of Logan.
  16. You guys complaining about "the plot" are missing the whole point of the show. The machinations of the attempted takeover, the attempted acquisitions, etc., are completely incidental and 100% not what the show is about. The show is about the Roy family and their interactions. All of various corporate shit are just things that happen so we can see how the family reacts/interacts/responds.
  17. John was definitely kind of an asshole. That's not really disputable.
  18. LOL yes. John seems very much like the chaos agent I always assumed he was. It had to drive George mad. One minute, John is consoling George and encouraging him... the next minute he's joking and making light of the India trip with Paul right in front of George. LOL
  19. I don't know. Just based on what I saw in the film, I don't think they took any of that stuff seriously. They were literally reading the tabloid stuff out loud and laughing about it. I think the simpler explanation is that they just got busy with their lives doing different things. And they were separated by an Ocean also. John was living in New York while the others mostly stayed in the U.K. The sheer physical distance had to play a part. At any rate, I think that they almost certainly would have played together again and possibly made more music had John not been killed.
  20. Yeah I've thought about this a lot because this thing really changed my perception about this era of the band. I just feel like the narrative out there (at least in my perception) was that the Get Back sessions were a miserable slog that "broke" the band. I didn't see that AT ALL. I get that some people will say they may have been hamming it up for the cameras, but over THIS MANY hours of footage, I just don't buy the "they all hated each other" narrative at all. There was obviously tension at Twickenham because (a) it was almost totally unstructured and (b) George was feeling disrespected. But once George came back and they were at Apple with George Martin being a more consistent presence to keep things moving, this was undoubtedly a bunch of guys mostly having a great time. And yeah, in later years John specifically talked shit about these sessions, but that was probably selective memory based on other issues. I don't care what he said later, John was having as much fun as the rest of them. I just feel like the band ended probably because of some internal tension but also just because these guys had been together for a LONG TIME and done a TON of stuff at this point. Paul probably would have kept it going because he seems like he's the one who is most into "the band" aspect of it, but clearly George was ready to do his own thing, as was John. It doesn't mean they hated each other it just means they were ready for something new, IMO.
  21. Yeah and as impressive as I think it is, I will say that one reason for The Beatles’ crazy productivity was they stopped touring in 1966. It’s definitely easier to just crank out one album after another when you aren’t spending 6-8 months out of the year touring the world and playing shows. But of course it’s the combination of quantity AND quality that really makes them special.
  22. By the way, I did finally finish the doc last night. The concert stuff at the end was worth the wait. It was all just so great, from the concert itself to all of the "on-the-street" reactions to the two Bobbies who come in to Apple Corp to try and shut the concert down.... those two... First off, they both looked like they were about 20 years old. Secondly, they seemed like characters in an Armando Iaanucci show, lol.
  23. I get that, but even by the standards of the 60s and 70s, the Beatles put out an amazing amount of content in a relatively short period of time and at a very young age. In the Stones example, yeah they released those four albums from 1968-1972. In roughly the same amount of time, from late 1965 to late 1969/early 1970, the Beatles released: Rubber Soul Revolver Sgt. Peppers Magical Mystery Tour The White Album Abbey Road Let it Be Plus at least another album or two worth of singles. When you consider the White Album was a double album, plus all of the singles, they basically released ~9 albums worth of material in just over 4 years. That seems pretty insane to me.
