  1. Haidt says in this video: the world tells you "you are a balloon full of feelings and the world is full of pins". His ideas overlap 99% with Shrier, however, Shrier is much much hotter. Both are extremely evidence based. Haidt also says in the video, about a dangerous playground: "This is good, because kids can get hurt. And that's crucial. Because if you can get hurt, then you learn how not to get hurt."
  2. So in your mind, Israel has the option to engage in a war of self defense, killing all the Hamas members, without killing the human shield Hamas interposed between their fighters and Israel's. Please share these tactics that nobody else has been able to identify. You will win a Nobel Peace Prize and I will be your biggest supporter. Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand.
  3. So no comment or disagreement on the substance of what I said. You posted a piece of Hamas propaganda and then described it in a completely inaccurate manner.
  4. We have discussed, in this thread, examples of how civilians die in war. This an ordinary and normal part of war. It is expected. In ODS, half our casualties were friendly fire. I gave many examples of how the US targeted civilians, how schools were bombed, and there was no war crime, it was just war. During war, bombs go astray. Soldiers might take a captive and decide to kill the unarmed captive because that guy killed his or her best friend. Controllers might receive incorrect coordinates. Intelligence can be wrong. There are a million reasons. However, Israel is engaged in a moral and legal war of self defense. Our killing of civilians in WW2 didn't change the moral or legal argument. There is no conceivable way to frame this as terrorism. Terrorism is the opposite of a war of self defense. We will call the PROBLEM NUMBER TWO. My question is, do you even understand what I am saying?
  5. There was discussion on earlier pages of this thread about how Hamas lies constantly. For example, the report where Israel supposedly bombed a hospital, but actually bombed a parking lot, and even then I don't think it ended being an Israeli bomb. The fake report was picked up by Reuters, NPR, NY Times, Washington Post etc. And of course it was all a lie. These are the same team of guys who save up women and chidren's bodies in the freezer, put them out of the street and then blow up a bomb and say Israel did it. Now you post a video from them and say "See - TERRORISM". Do you not understand what you did wrong? We'll call this PROBLEM NUMBER ONE.
  6. I can explain your multiple errors in drawing that conclusion. But I would like to give you a shot at figuring them out yourself.
  7. Surly's own Al Sharpton race baiter thinks mean people suck LOL. Almost every single one of your posts is an attack on other posters. I can provide examples if you prefer. I say with no hostility, you should take a break. You are out of control.
  8. Because what they have to say in a long form interview is thought provoking, unique, and a valuable contribution?
  9. Anyone making an argument that times are tougher now than they have ever been is a legitimate LUNATIC. Prior generations had WW2 and Vietnam to deal with. I grew up with double digit unemployment, the constant and very real threat of nuclear armageddon, 20% mortgages 15% inflation. Cities were wastelands, oil was embargoed, NYC was the murder capital of America. People were still watching black and white TVs, pop music meant Debbie Gibson, and I remember when my school got its first computer. Cable TV, microwaves, and VCR's were brand new and costed more then than they do now. We live in an age of massive and shared prosperity. People are obese, not starving. The existential angst has very little to do with economic privation. As a factual matter the argument is makes no sense.
  10. Are you making fun of the losers? Because that's just wrong. Pity them, sure. Mock them, that's just mean.
  11. Or, instead posting tweets, you could figure out what her actual arguments are and respond to them. She makes valid and thoughtful points. It' pretty hard to criticize an argument with which you have no familiarity.
  12. Here is an interview she did with Jordan Peterson. JP is hard to listen to, but she makes incredible points. There are shorter cuts from Rogan if you don't want to spend the time. Shrier simply asks why the cohort that received the most mental health treatment is the worst off mentally, and draws the obvious conclusion. Social media is obviously a huge problem of course, there are lots of other factors, but in the end, I think it's a lack of meaning in life. Purpose, if you prefer. Healthy stress. Nobody around is actually helping them. Why do IDF soldiers have such low rates versus US soldiers? Young folks have everything and nothing at the same time.
  13. The smartest people in the world, the ones who made the Bomb, who could give us interplanetary travel, who should be developing the Theory of Everything, this is what they're doing. I am disappoint.
  14. I don't need to dispute your numbers, I simply don't think they are relevant to the moral evaluation of Israeli conduct. Reference was made above to attacking a hospital is a war crime. Well, Hamas know the PR value of that kind of thing. So way before 7 OCT, they built out a network of hospitals across Gaza. Real hospitals, they get the PR for taking care of folks. But, they were ALL OF THEM colocated with military assets. This was a deliberate strategy by Hamas. Some call it the Dead Baby Strategy. It's kind of what they do. Prior to the D-Day landings on Normandy, we bombed the ever living shit out of the countryside. the French countryside. Populated by French citizens, who presumably, hated the Germans and wanted us to invade. And we blew up those French civilians who were on our side. With our bombs, dropped from our airplanes. For all intensive porpoises, it was a deliberate act. It was not even close to a war crime. America then decided that a critical vulnerability of the German war machine was ball bearings. In the plants we bombed, they weren't staffed by military, probably by mostly women. The hospitals and grocery stores and nursery schools we destroyed when our bombs missed their targets, well that was a casualty of war. Still not a war crime. The scenario you are proposing seems to indicate Israel should not fire back when shot at, if there are civilians at risk. I assure you, America would shoot back. And so should the Israelis. It's not much more complicated than self defense. Hamas's war crimes (using human shields) are on them, not Israel. Realistically, this is black letter law. It's not my opinion, it's how war works. The right to fire back when attacked is God given, few people actually debate the truth of it. The military mission of Israel is to kick Hamas out of power. How do you do that without killing their soldiers? Hamas is embedded with civilians, aiming to sacrifice as many innocents as they can. I don't know what you can do about that. I feel for the Palestinians. I don't know what else to say. Nothing can be done, innocent lives will be lost. It is a tragedy.
  15. According to documents obtained by the New York Post, Lemon attempted to shake down the billionaire in contract talks for his new X show. The report stated, "The ex-CNN anchor sent over an astronomical wish list to Elon Musk during contract talks to host a show on the billionaire's social media platform X – including a free Tesla Cybertruck, a $5 million upfront payment on top of an $8 million salary, an equity stake in the multibillion-dollar company, and the right to approve any changes in X policy as it relates to news content." Lemon's agents at United Talent Agency sent X's leadership the contract proposal in December for review. A source knowledgeable about the situation said Lemon also demanded a private jet flight to Las Vegas, a suite for him and his fiance. They also noted Lemon requested X cover day drinking tabs and fancy massages.
  16. I agree, if Israel hits a hospital, it is a war crime that is attributable to Hamas and the deaths are on Hamas. The use of human shields is a war crime, in a legal sense.
  17. Could be true. If so, it's awfully weird that nobody here has posted a credible link (that didn't come from Hamas or its sympathizers).
