Unlike you, I don’t care if she’s a political hack or not. Don’t get so offended when her tweet has NOTHING to do with politics.I went and found the full quote. This might seem novel to you, but I don’t blindly accept things people say as fact just because I agree with their ideology:
“On re-evaluation by the National Institute of Health, only 12 per cent of death certificates have shown a direct causality from coronavirus, while 88 per cent of patients who have died have at least one pre-morbidity - many had two or three,” he says.
This does not mean that Covid-19 did not contribute to a patient's death, rather it demonstrates that Italy's fatality toll has surged as a large proportion of patients have underlying health conditions.
There’s no new information in that quote. We know it fucks up people with health problems. This stat might actually make it scarier, because it means there were roughly 1500 people (so far) in Italy that were basically totally fine until they caught this virus and it killed them.
And I know things like research and evidence don’t matter to you, but it’s one guy in Italy saying this. I still can’t find his source. He may be correct, but still I’ve seen no evidence corroborating him.

but i mean... isn't that the economy? aren't millions of people suddenly out of work bc we all stopped this 'unnecessary' spending? what exactly do we all need to 'wake up' from?
I meant more the buying lunch everyday, getting coffee twice a day, getting drinks multiple nights a week every week type of things. Sure it’s good for the economy. Might not be so great for the individual.

All the incredibly unnecessary (former) spending I'm seeing in this thread is making my head spin. Hope this is a wake up call for Americans.

School my wife is working with is designing lessons, etc, with the idea of them switching to online classes, using Zoom, etc. I know they’ve been busy prepping a lot of online stuff.
It would be odd for AISD to shut down everything completely, when area school districts are going fully online, and when it’s screw over seniors, etc. and would put even more kids behind come August.Lolz at online public school. Most people are poor (nobody here). Both parents work (yes they're still leaving the house every day). They may or may not have wifi or a computer. Public school IQs range from 20 to 150. This works for college online instruction, but for the non pre AP type of dipshit this will be a disaster. See you in September kids.
At least several of the school districts in the RGV (poorest region of the state) have been giving every student a laptop or tablet to do homework/projects and what not on for years. Hasn’t noticeably improved student performance much but it definitely hasn’t made it worse. I‘ve heard of other poor school districts around the country doing the same. This is a generation of kids that grew up online, poor or not. Won’t be a huge adjustment for them.

It’s a little ridiculous to say “half the infection” is in NYC. It’s the only place testing in large numbers, so of course it seems that way. This virus is everywhere already.

I really, really thought he was going to go fully into the “it’s no threat, life will go on as normal” direction he stated when this first broke out. I thought we were headed for unmitigated disaster. Now we’re just headed for slightly mitigated disaster. I do applaud him for his change of tone, however brief it may last. Seriously.

Even Esports is cancelled. Never occurred to me that they all had to play from one spot to make sure no one is playing with mods.

Weird that they casually mention he was discovered dead in the hotel room he was self-quarantined in. Hadn’t heard the virus could take you out that quickly.

Media took the straight line estimate, reported it hysterically, and hysteria ensued. It's not hard to understand why it's called the outrage industrial complex. The lie, on purpose, in predictable ways.
The “panic” truly started March 11th. It was a rare specific day you can trace it all back to. That’s when Gombert tested positive, NBA canceled the season, Tom hanks said he had it, and the Nebraska head coach had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance during a game (Not corona related but still). All in a couple hours time. The very next day is when you saw the first runs on the grocery stores. Before that not so much. Blame the media all you want, but all that in one day was an “oh shit” moment for the public.

Doesn’t sound real. What’s the business logic behind this anyway? What would it matter to my company if I won the lottery even?

If they don’t protect the wearer, then why do the healthcare professionals want them? Riddle me that whydontcha?!?
Might have something to do with healthcare workers being in close proximity to the sickest members of the population everyday for hours at a time. But yes please keep your 100 masks to wear on your once a week 20 minute trip to the store, you need it more than anyone. Fuck those piece of shit doctors and nurses.

So what exactly is an essential business? I’m in logistics and several of my customers who deal in raw steel have been excluded from shutdown. We mostly handle plywood and tubing, though.
It seems at least 80% of businesses qualify as “essential” and are free to operate under all the shelter in place orders I’ve read.

Yep. That's the beauty of this whole "shutdown/social distancing" experiment that we are headlong into. The only thing that is assured it that it will shut down our economy. If the virus spread slows down -- the "shutdown/social distancing" experiment will be credited. If it doesn't slow down, we'll all be accused of not appropriately following the "shutdown/social distancing" experiment. Win/win!
No one debates if shutdowns work to slow the spread of disease or not, except for morons like yourself. Of course shutdowns accomplish that. The only real debate is are the shutdowns worth the cost.

So we can also read it as most of us are not essential? Just asking since I did not check it out. Sounds like Hays County is taking that model.
“Exempted businesses” is their way of saying “essential”.

The company I work for already found a way around it anyway. The vague language defining “essential” within they orders didn’t really make it that difficult really.
But yeah glad to see SA is a shitshow...
Lol at “found a way around it”. I read the declaration. I had a very hard time thinking of a job that wasn’t covered under their “exempted businesses” section. The listed virtually every type of business on there.

I have no idea. But I hope not.
A lot of times viruses mutate to something less virulent. That’s eventually how spanish flu ended. So it’s not always a bad thing.

This is definitely not true. People have gotten reinfected at a rate of something like 14% in China from data in late Feb.
I think that was before they realized there’s 2 different strains.

As a natural introvert, I am. Read about this virus in January, gradually stocked up on stuff, got dentist appointment in, got a refill on contacts, and got a way shorter than normal haircut three weeks ago in anticipation for the exact situation we’re in. Mostly been relaxing through the panic. It’s not hard to be prepared for certain things.

If I survive this plague I’m really going to re-think my gym membership. Haven’t skipped much of a beat with these home workouts, and they’re way less of a hassle & time commitment. Can’t imagine I’m the only one.

Doesn’t it encourage hoarding, like those POS’s that bought thousands and thousands of bottles of sanitizer to sell for a higher price?
