We should have started with them first.
Jesus Christ. The first 2 teams on our schedule COMBINED for 6 wins last year. It's unbelievably sad that opening the season against a team that won 4 games the previous year is too steep a challenge for the Longhorns. But gee whiz Maryland is too tough and scary to start the year against. We just suck and it doesn't matter what order we play teams in.

He had a great first game or 2 when defenses had no film on him. Like Ehlinger against USC last year.

I think Helobious secretly wants to start a "which quarterback would you want to have sex with" discussion. nttawwt
No I'm really not, I could never do that to your mother. But maybe she should play QB, she never chokes when it's all on the line.

Explaining the last interception
Holy fuck. Our starting QB thinks it's not even an option to throw the ball away or run on 3rd & 10 in the opponents territory with over a minute left. I'm being 100% serious here, there are junior high QB's that know better than that. Did Sam not hear/understand the question or something? What an incredible answer.
-
Don't want this to sound like an insult, but Sam is just a funny-looking dude. No homo (but NTTAWWT), I legitimately can't think of a good QB that was also unattractive. It's why I don't have high hopes for Rising or Thompson either. We need to recruit better looking people at QB.

WTF does this even mean??
It's not how you start that matters. Or how you finish.

It sure as fuck as. Every coach since him has had to throw true freshmen into the fire at key positions like QB, OL and DB. True blue blood programs are redshirting guys even 4- and 5-stars at those positions and we are just tossing them out there year after year. They lose confidence and desire and then we wonder why they weren't "coached up."
Georgia, Bama, Washington, and others have had success recently with true freshman QB's.
-
We will beat USC, and also finish the year 6-6. Because that's the kind of stuff Texas does now.

You have got to be fucking kidding me. We have better athletes than Maryland at damn near every position. That shit was coaching.
I don't know. That true freshman that scored 3 TD's for them looks like he could make the NFL one day. Certainly looked better than anyone we had on offense. But "recruiting rankings" and stuff I guess.

Will people even play/care about football in the 2020's and beyond? Maybe our great days are forever behind us. Or maybe we're all just bitches.
We'll always have 2000-2009 though. Great memories and such a great time to be Longhorn fan. No ragrets.

He’s an outstanding young man, a tremendous representative of the university, he’s honestly a solid QB, and I highly suspect that he’ll lead a more successful life than I ever will.
However in high pressure situations with the game on the line, he’s just about the last person on earth I want taking snaps. He’s like the anti-Colt McCoy.

Ball came out but it looked like he got it again, hit the ground and it popped out again.

I hope we don’t score too soon
Maryland’s offense can’t score quick. They can’t pass for shit. If Texas scores a TD it’s over.

Sam's elbow was hit. He still sucks but his elbow was hit.
Was a dumb throw anyway, very tight coverage on the receiver.

Dumbest OP of the day?

I'm starting to get more upset now. Maryland had an unreal amount of offseason distractions and a tragedy to deal with. Yet they were so much more ready for today than Texas is.

How much would you like to wager?
I think Texas will win. I’m losing more and more confidence in my “multiple TD” prediction with each play I watch. To be this unprepared for your first game against a shit team is inexcusable.
-
Goddamn that was so stupid by Johnson.
-
I do think he’s overrated. But lol if you don’t think UT is winning this game by multiple TDs. Maryland looks like trash, and Texas is playing with their head up their asses. Completely.
-
The only concerning thing so far to me is that Maryland doesn’t look like a good team at all. Yet it’s still been a struggle for UT.

To be clear, that's Midland Lee that beat Smithson Valley not the San Antonio Lee.
A little surprising to see O'Connor winning the Steele matchup. I saw O'Connor scrimmage SVHS last week and they didn't seem very good.
O'Connor lost a lot but has a really good o-line and running back. Very well coached as well. Steele is the most individually talented team in the area, more than Judson even IMO but since Saenz took over they seem to start seasons sluggishly. Once October rolls around they'll be humming.
Anyone familiar with Tyler John Tyler? I know they were good back in the day but have no idea how good they've been lately. Cedar Hill beat them 57-0 tonight and I'm trying to gauge how impressive of a win that is.

And I've said it before, but Matt Stepp is the only reason to still read DCTF.com:
I did a double take when he mentioned the Jacob Rosales controversy in the Vela-United write-up. That's fucking astounding that he knows about that. Dude must have some deep valley connections or he browses the 956 sports forum, either way that's really impressive journalism.
(tldr; Rosales is regarded as the best QB in the valley. Played for Mission Pioneer for 3 years, tried to transfer to Vela for his senior year. Got denied due to typical valley pettiness and will play for Pioneer again this year. In fairness all the coaches hate Vela down there because they rather blatantly recruit the best kids in the Edinburg/McAllen/Reynosa area to play for them. They do it in all sports)

Just finished ordering a McCutchen Yankee jersey & 16x34 wall poster. World Series trophy a formality at this point with him on the team.

Herman vs. Strong
in Football
Posted
They’re both good recruiters that suck at coaching.
Something I had completely forgotten: Herman finished 5th in AAC the year before he came to Texas. The AAC. 5th place. And for whatever reason no one in charge (or most of the fans on the shag) saw that as a potential red flag.
