  1. Why does bad news for the world economy make you erect?
  2. Hader, Pressly, and Brown having an 0-7 record at this point in the season would not have been something anybody would’ve predicted a month ago; flip that around to something more expected like 4-3 and the Astros are 11-14 and nobody is panicking. Everything else pretty much makes sense. Nobody should’ve expected Arrighetti, Henley, Suero, or Scott to pitch well enough to win games. Hell, 6 months ago nobody would’ve even expected any of those guys to have thrown a pitch for Houston this early in the season. The Astros season got completely derailed by pitching injuries. That might be something to blame on the front office, but I don’t see how any organization absorbs constantly having 5 of their best 7 SP on the IL for the first month of the season. They really needed a lot more out of Hunter Brown and France, 2 guys who were relatively established compared to their other healthy options. And then Brown’s bedshitting got compounded by Hader and Pressly running into horrendous luck.
  3. Astros win loss record by pitcher: Blanco, Javier, JV: 5-0 Arrighetti, Brown, France, Henley: 0-10 Hader, Pressly, Abreu: 1-4 Suero, Scott, Martinez: 1-4
  4. G Pope/Larry G Mark/Weaver G/F Johnson/Pryor/Clark F Kent/Codie/Bott F ???/Shedrick/Onyema They get one more good player they should be ready.
  5. There is so much pent up demand waiting on rates, there is no way the Fed wouldn’t rush in to lower rates the minute it actually looks like the economy starts to turn. And as soon as rates come down, another boom starts. The deficit will come home to roost at some point but it won’t be before the election.
  6. That’s great and all but 17,000 people strewn across Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Phoenix are still gonna decide the election.
  7. Gotta admit I could not stop laughing at the thought of the Republican nominee for president (and a former president) calling a NYT reporter named Maggie “Maggot” multiple times. LMFAO. At this point anyone who votes for that guy is an indefensible piece of shit. Has anybody done a deep dive into the logic he uses to decide which words to capitalize? I am excited to get to ~September when Trump can liquidate his shares.
  8. I’m more surprised that so far 23% of respondents think Trump will die or become incapacitated within 8 months.
  9. I initially had a much longer set of choices but figured I needed to pare them down. I should have changed the wording on the “plea” choices to also include if he’s convicted without jail time. In my mind there’s not much meaningful difference between him reaching a plea or getting convicted. It might matter to his followers or others, but in terms of real world impact, the real barometer for me is how it effects his odds of being president again.
  10. Fwiw here’s how I’d currently handicap the odds of the poll choices: Wins election: 39% Plea deal, loses election: 29% Exonerated, loses election: 15% Plea deal, can’t run: 12% Health problems, can’t run: 5% Prison, can’t run: 0%
  11. Interested in how everybody is feeling about what will actually happen to Trump this year.
  12. All the crypto bros stroking it over the idea of countries being able to get around sanctions. Cool, let’s see how that plays out for everybody.
  13. I agree with all this. My point was that what seems like a logical fix (make it easier for women to have both a career and a family) appeared to have been tried elsewhere and not addressed the full problem. I kinda feel like society has reached a point of ugly truth: having kids kind of sucks. Even if you have the resources to accommodate them, whatever you don’t outsource is still a real pain in the ass. Life has evolved to the point that we don’t need children for work or companionship or religious obligations. So we are left with some pretty narrow benefits of having kids and a lot of people don’t see the value. I say all this as someone whose entire life revolves around my kids; they are my primary source of joy and purpose in life. But I wouldn’t really recommend having kids to anyone and totally understand why more people are choosing to forego the experience.
  14. Studies show that the policies do in fact make it easier for women to have both family and a career; unfortunately, that does not translate into an increased birth rate. So basically, even though it’s easier to have both in those places, those women are still choosing to have fewer children.
  15. Wondering this same thing. Not know king Jack shit, my best case would be a plea to house arrest for 1 year that would effectively make him unable to run or serve. That’s probably asking WAY too much. I consider the chance of Trump going to jail somewhere between 0% and 0%.
  16. Only 2 guys I can think of who are available midseason would be Buck Showalter and Mark DeRosa. Fuck no to Ausmus. After the season they could look at Don Mattingly, Steven Vogt, or Clayton McCullough. None of those guys make me all that excited, but I thought Espada was the right choice so wtf do I know.
  17. Christopher Nolan feature film rankings: 1. The Dark knight 2. Interstellar 3. Inception 4. Oppenheimer 5. Dunkirk 6. Batman Begins 7. Insomnia 8. The Prestige 9. Tenet 10. Memento 11. The Dark Knight Rises 12. Following 1-5 are excellent films bordering on genius. 6-8 are meh. 9-10 are films that people say are good so they look smart or sophisticated, but they’re really just stupid and intentionally confusing. 11-12 are mediocre for very different reasons.
  18. Put a nail in it. Starting to think the real missing link might be Strom. Our pitchers fucking suck all of a sudden.
  19. I think it’s not so much women not knowing the realities of fertility, it’s more they try to thread the needle to have it all by waiting until they’re more mature and/or find the right partner before getting married and having kids. Anecdotally, that’s what happened with my wife and me. We got married when my wife was 29 and had as many kids as we could before she turned 35. That ended up being 2, when she really wanted 3. It’s possible making it easier to have wealth/career goals and still bear children would help. But Im not sure how effective it would be, since similar efforts in other places haven’t yielded results.
  20. I don’t know if you’re a piece of shit or not, but you sure do say a lot of things that only pieces of shit say.
  21. If the situation plays out to give Dems control of the House, they better RAM through every god damn thing they’ve ever wanted. The find out needs to be the most find outtie of all find outs. Fuckin Medicare for all, codified abortion access, massive taxes on the super wealthy, order of magnitude increases in education funding, free universal childcare, massive gerrymandering restrictions on states, and a change in who is eligible for the presidency (no one under current indictment or currently being tried for a felony). FUCK THOSE DUMB MOTHERFUCKERS.
  22. What you said isn’t true, as there are clearly a shitload of ways that you benefit from tax dollars that are not available to everyone. But I’m curious about how you formed this opinion that there’s some meaningful portion of tax revenue going toward deadbeats. Can you cite any facts that might lend credence to your claim? Not just volume of dollars, but also evidence that the people getting them are not “productive members of society”. You’re acting like a low IQ shitbird, and I would be happy if you could give any sign that there’s more to you than that.
  23. Hang on. You think the 2028 Dem nominee is going to be a weaker candidate than Biden???? And you think the GOP nominee is going to put forth a platform that represents a “hard swing the other way” relative to Biden’s milquetoast moderate policies??? And that hard right GOP candidate will actually have a chance of winning??? Wow. Bitch you aren’t rich enough to claim paying for anybody’s college with your measly ass tax dollars. Gtfoh with your middle class ass.
  24. Yeah a non-regarded president would have meant several hundred thousand less deaths. The sad (funny?) part is that a lot of the dead who would still be alive are people that voted for Trump.
