  1. Thanks for the advice. I have such weird physical reactions to medicine, that I'm incredibly averse to taking anything. My doc put me on something about a year and a half ago. It may have been Clonazepam as that sounds familiar. I ended up losing about 10 lbs due to severe nausea that lasted the entire 2 months I took it. As I mentioned, I do consider myself very lucky. Especially after reading some of the other posts. My family life is great. I'm financially secure. Hell, despite my admissions, even my job isn't too bad. I'm just at a crossroads as a teacher, and am worried about being burnt out in a field in which I'm stuck.
  2. I'll try to make this short as it's my first foray into this thread. I feel for those on this thread that are dealing with death and more serious issues. My thoughts and prayers, though I'm not particularly religious, go out to y'all. My anxiety lately has been through the roof, and I cannot explain it. I read somewhere that one is basically set, personality-wise, by the time they're 25. Until about 5 years ago, absolutely nothing would have caused me any stress or lose sleep. Hell, I went through a 5 year custody battle over my daughter and rarely lost a minute of sleep. It kind of motivated me. I'm very, VERY lucky in that I never get depressed. I have extreme empathy for those that do get depressed when things go south. Thankfully, that's not me. When I moved back to the Dallas area 7 years ago, I had an incident which seems to have triggered some sort of non-stop anxiety train. I'm a teacher. Long story short, I had a principal that had given me nothing but high marks for 2 years. In the spring of my 2nd year, my writing students took a "mock STAAR" test to prepare for the real one. In a low income school, our results were 1 percentage point below the district average (suburban DFW). (Side note: both math and reading scores in my departmentalized grade were lower than this.) All of the sudden, I'm considered the worst teacher on the planet. Principal chewed me out. I had a nonstop line of school and district folks in my room to teach me how to teach. Since then, I just cannot handle any sort of criticism. I have extremely good relationships with my students and their families. My test scores are always fantastic. In all honesty, I cannot think of anything that would be a negative mark against me. But, I just can't handle anything that I perceive as criticism. Earlier today I took care of all 3 of the classes in my grade due to illness. I busted my ass and went FAR above and beyond what most would do. I get an email from my principal that has the tiniest hint of criticism, and here I am, up later than normal, drinking bourbon, and typing out personal stuff. Essentially, I sent my class to the computer lab with login codes that didn't work. I didn't need a page-long, fucking email about it. But, JC, how about just mentioning it in passing tomorrow and/or thanking me for taking care of all the extra shit today. According to my new Amazfit watch, my resting heart rate is 53. After receiving the email, it sat at 111 for over an hour. I love teaching, my students, and my families, but this crap is about to make me turn to driving a truck or somesuch. I'll stop the tl;dr now. Thanks for letting me vent. p.s. My doc put me on something 2 years ago for anxiety. it just made me nauseous for 2 months before I finally gave up on it. I'm not sure pharma is the right path for me.
  3. Thanks. I'll have to check it out.
  4. Earl is a badass, but slightly before my time. My first thought was of Butch Hadnot.
  5. Cross posting. I think it's Peacock that not only has ads in the middle of the show, but places them in the middle of a sentence at times. I watched Lonesome Dove last month. The show had ads smack-dab in the middle of Gus waxing philosophical. Really ruined some scenes. I run into the same problem with listening to something on YouTube. Yes, I get it. They make money off of ads, and I'm not paying for the music. I just wish there was a way to watch a really long ad up front, then enjoy the show or succession of songs.
  6. I tried to watch the new movie about the GameStop fiasco and turned it off. I am horrible at ignoring sunk cost. I've turned off, maybe, 10 movies my entire life. Really sucks because I'm fascinated about the subject matter and loved all the similarly themed movies like The Big Short.
  7. Loving this so far. Question. How frequent were the bombing missions to the individual pilot? For example, in EP 1, most flew their first mission. What would be the normal time to Mission #2?
  8. They are 12-8 still play TN twice, at Bama, at Ole Miss, at GA, + a couple of other games they'll be favored, but could lose. They will also incur a loss in the SEC tourney. I don't think 12+ losses get them in. They're currently 10th in the SEC.
  9. True. But as one that doesn't think RT is it, you can't fault going 2-1 against #9, #11(on the road), and #21 on the road.
  10. I still stand by my previous post. Doesn't making the tourney essentially boil down to: 1-6 finish in the Big 12 = in 7-8 depends on the Big 12 tourney. Everyone else out unless they win the auto berth.
  11. Did I miss something about the camper? I thought it was a tryst-mobile to hide the relationship. In an area that probably has .001 people per square mile, he sets it up smack dab in the middle of a trailer park? No 24/7 gossipers there. I guess I'm going to have to watch The Thing this weekend. Oh. And thanks @mdleast for the YouTube vids. Very informative for those that miss the obvious. See Sentence 1.
  12. Heck yeah. I've listened to the really long podcast about WWI and the one about the survivors of the ship that sank during WWII/sharks. I've been thinking about listening to another one, so I'll take your rec.
  13. You took the words out of my mouth. I'm sure most of it - as it applies to me - has to do with age. Other than watching Luka when he's having a game in the zone, it's hard to watch.
  14. Lol. The success of the Rangers (finally) is putting more focus and stress in the other, shitshow, Dallas teams.
  15. Or, what was that 50's or 60's sitcom with the fort and the indians (Native Americans). I used to live that show on Nickelodeon
  16. The first half of 1883 was decent. The 2nd half was some of the worst shit I've ever seen on TV. And I rarely pick shows apart. I I just try to be entertained. I don't mind Yellowstone for what it is - an updated Dallas.
  17. I thought it was weird that Foster showed up at the end of the hockey game her daughter was playing in; however, as the camera panned, there was a giant Christmas tree in the middle of the rink. Also, when does everyone use the bathroom?
  18. I was thinking about this as well.
  19. What's up cuz. I, too, am related to Cynthia Ann. I can take it one step further. Davy Crockett himself (Fess Parker) is in the same lineage. His mother was apparently a pain in the ass at my parents' wedding in 1969.
  20. In being on the spectrum, I have a hard time seeing gray areas. Therefore, I compartmentalize. Here's the way I see it. And, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind so don't @ me. Make it to the Round of 16 - he's our guy. Barely miss the tourney or lose in the round of 32 - he deserves another year. Flame out, finish in the bottom 3 of the conference, no tourney sniffing - make a change.
  21. Don't worry guys. It's going to get better. Political ads are about to start up. 🤮
  22. I've been using AI to train teachers at PDs in my district. I'm astonished at how helpful this tool can be in the classroom. I feel like there's probably something out there that I don't know about that returns better search results. AI? I'll give a couple of quick, specific examples. I worked at a pretty popular Mexican restaurant in Knoxville called Cozymels, while putting my wife and myself through college post-Texas. It was open from about '97 to '05. In the mid 2000's, you could find tons of pictures related to the place. Today, it is damn near impossible to find anything related - even when using very specific terms. There has to be hundreds, if not thousands, of images taken in and around the place. Shouldn't anything within a public Facebook account and pictures tagged with, "Cozymels" in the description show up? Another example. When I was a kid, we used to go to Lake Brownwood frequently as we had family in Brownwood and Comanche. I distinctly recall easily finding pictures of the park at Lake Brownwood which had a huge fort with a multi-story net you could climb. I recall finding multiple pics of this park 10-15 years ago. Now... nothing. I guess I'm just wondering if I'm missing something re: search engines or, perhaps, the dead internet theory is real.
  23. How much time was left per this call? I watched the last minute or so and didn't see it.
