It was an emotional decision not a rational one by whomever . I called out CDC earlier but reality is probably different. Likely he knew that RT wouldn’t work, but others that sign his checks laid the pressure on and perhaps that wasn’t the hill worth dying on for him. Just my opinion based upon other hires etc. Complete guess.

Again, I may be misremembering, but weren't there a handful of ex players supporting the hiring of RT?  I can understand not wanting to piss them off - to an extent.

That doesn't mean anything. Have you watched this team play basketball? You haven't noticed the glaring holes?

This isn't me defending Terry, by the way. He's responsible for the team that takes the floor either way. But these guys are in serious need of a B12 caliber starting PG because right now they have 0. And that's a bad recipe for winning in this league.

I'm not disagreeing about the lack of a PG. I just think - holes aside - there's no reason this team shouldn't, at least, make the tourney.   I'm already half drunk and old, so my memory may be shitty, but I feel as if Barnes made the tourney a few times w/o a decent PG.  Oh shit.  I just defended Barnes.  Don't tell @shadow_operative

Uh no it isn't. That's an insane statement.

Researching my random statement now.  We were 3rd in the transfer portal 2 years ago; 8th last year.  6th in recruiting 2 years ago; 43rd last year.  I know all sorts of things change from year-to-year, but we're about to not even sniff the tourney with, what seems to be, some decent talent.

I’ll lay the cover fire for you, @shadow_operative.

Normally, I wouldn’t condone anything like this at this juncture in a coach’s tenure. However, there were legitimate concerns from the jump. Well, those concerns seem to be valid.

He is what we thought he was at his prior stops - an average head coach unfit for the University of Texas.

Oh, and for good measure, fuck Chris Beard.

You're being generous.  This roster is FAR better than the results.

    If we don’t

    Jinx!

I saw signs of this right after Terry took over, but I zipped it because, A) most of y'all watch far more than I do and, B) we were still winning.  Getting to the E8 was about the worst thing that could have happened to the program.

I'm speaking long term; not bitching about making it that far.

  6. Not specific to Peacock, but it's getting really annoying to pay for an app, then have to watch several minutes of ads during the show.  And, yes, I realize that I have to watch ads on regular TV for which I pay for (YouTubeTV), but it seems to be getting worse lately.  I'm watching Lonesome Dove.  The ads pop up at random times; not during natural breaks in the movie.  A character will be right in the middle of a sentence and a 2-minute ad break will suddenly appear.

  7. Quote

    1) Bama hires sark and horn has to find a new coach in January.
    2) Horn gives Sark a Jimbo contract and horn falls on their face a few years from now.

Who wants to tell him that aggy is the only entity stupid enough to offer a "Jimbo" contract?

I just finished the book a couple of days ago. Started watching the mini series yesterday. That's one thing that bothered me even in the book - some of the distances traveled in a short period of time on horseback. Also sometimes the geography is just plain wrong - mainly in regards to certain rivers' proximity/orientation to the towns/cities. My guess is that he was liberal in his use of "east" or "west" just as they probably were back then. That's how I justified it to my own brain.

Got it.  I hate when folks pick nits, so I try not to do so.  They just about criss-crossed the state when heading north.

In reading about McMuttry, paint me surprised that he also wrote Terms of Endearment.  I had no idea.  Also, funny side note that you probably already know since you read the book.  The original town of Lonesome Dove was actually located in modern Southlake.  Weird.

  9. Lulz.  I saw this quote the other day on here.  Didn't recall it.  Randomly decided to watch Lonesome Dove for the first time since, oh, 1997.  There it is.  Love this series, but the geography is driving me crazy.  I'm guessing the series had to speed up the book - hence Gus seemingly ending up in the panhandle (Llano Estacado) just after Lane's character gets taken outside of San Antonio.

I have some worries still about what our team is next year. DLine needs a major rebuild, secondary is still a problem, offense needs to find some weapons for Quinn. I hope we win every game but I wouldn’t be surprised if we lost 2-3 with the schedule we have.

Agree, but now 2 losses could get you into the playoffs.  I guess getting there is like the new "Big 4NYD" bowl goal from the past.
