Sen. Feinstein dies at age 90
Possibly, although the term placeholder is loaded. Weber (74) and Lee (76) do not meet the youth turn that is occurring in the Democratic Party. Karen Bass (71) is part of that same group. All are fine politicians and their service needs to be celebrated for the trailblazing they performed and are performing. Newsom created a problem for himself when he promised Joy Reid the seat would pass to an African-American woman. Frankly, it would be easier for Newsom if Feinstein serves out her term, as you suggest. My guess is that Feinstein will serve out the term, with her staff continuing to serve California ably. It is not ideal, but preventing further fracturing of the fragile Democratic coalition should be the goal of all Dems in these perilous times.

Pelosi addressing the House.- Sen. Feinstein dies at age 90
As mentioned above, Newsom promised the seat to an African American woman during his recall election. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/gavin-newsom-dianne-feinstein-california/ Personally, I am not a huge Schiff fan because he is so polarized after his work on impeachment. I love Porter, but her seat is not a blue lock. Ro Khanna is in a safe blue NorCal seat (South Bay/Silicone Valley). And, like Alex Padilla, has a relatively low profile that makes him more difficult to target in a State with the largest number of MAGAt voters. Schiff is an easy target for the MAGAt machine in California. I would love for Kamala to return to the Senate, but I cannot see her giving up the VP role and front runner slot to replace Biden when it is “her turn” in line It is time for DiFi to step aside and has been for some time. Her staff has done a great job navigating the limitations.- 2021 - Is inflation finally back in the conversation?

Good PPI news. Also good news for Fed’s demand destruction plan was household debt rising in the face of high interest rates. Households are running out of money and racking up credit card debt. From the Bloomberg: US household debt climbed at the fastest annual pace since 2008 in the third quarter, with credit-card balances surging even as the interest rates that lenders charge to consumers hit a multi-decade high. Households added $351 billion in overall debt last quarter, taking the total to $16.5 trillion, according to data released by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Tuesday. That’s an increase of 8.3% from a year earlier, the most since a 9.1% jump in the first quarter of 2008. The debt figures aren’t adjusted for inflation. The question is a good one because it recognizes the fiscal tools for combating inflation are far more precise than the Fed’s interest rate hikes, which create massive collateral damage. That said, there is no political appetite to use those precision fiscal tools. And since the Fed has a mandate to combat inflation, the politicos gladly defer to the Fed to do the dirty work.- 2022 Election Day Thread - Midterm Rumble

Beto brought out crowds, but not votes. DFW and Houston turnout was dismal. Some of that is Biden (who was largely neutral in most states aside from Texas and Florida where he was an anchor for Dems). Dems in Texas need a candidate to get out the vote to have a chance at replacing the embarrassingly awful Ted Cruz in 2024. If Biden is at the top of the 2014 ticket, no need to waste Dem money on Texas.- Cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.)
