    That's the joke.  (I rent.)

Good to know.  I was about to get aggressive.

I'm just glad we've had a couple of weeks of mild temps.  Driveway is completely clear.  Roof is mostly clear.  Still a lot of snow on the ground but whatever. Did manage to get a lot of dog shit cleaned up in the thaw.

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (NewsNation) — Just weeks after a train carrying toxic chemicals derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, some residents say they are being asked to sign contracts they fear could prevent them from suing later on.

Katlyn Schwarzwaelder and her boyfriend Chris Wells live just down the tracks from where the Norfolk Southern train derailed and released hazardous material.

Last week, Schwarzwaelder says, Norfolk Southern came by to test for toxins in her home. But before doing so, she was asked to sign a document.

“We were told they were an independent testing agency, they were escorted by the EPA,” Schwarzwaelder explained. “Before they could enter the premises, they handed us a contract. The contract was essentially to be able to get onto the property, but also at the bottom was a hold harmless agreement.”

The document states that the landowner agrees to “hold harmless Unified Command” from “any and all legal claims, personal injury or property damage.”

Schwarzwaelder says she refused to sign it.

U.S. Sen J.D. Vance of Ohio is outraged.

“I talked to a woman this morning, she told me about an indemnification agreement she was asked to sign, and I looked at it and I was in disbelief,” said Vance. “We called Norfolk Southern and the excuse they gave, which is unbelievable, was that it was an accidental indemnification agreement.”

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Newly surfaced texts showing Tucker Carlson telling the truth threaten to damage his brand irrevocably, the Fox News host fears.

After publication of the texts, which indicate that Carlson knew Donald J. Trump’s claims of widespread election fraud were false, the anchor, concerned that his reputation for mendacity had been permanently tainted, spiralled into despondency.

“Tucker is in a very dark place right now,” a Fox News colleague said. “To be unmasked as an honest person is literally his worst nightmare.”

In an emotional appearance on Fox, Carlson begged his viewers not to “rush to judgment” based on a few “ill-advised texts that give off the unfortunate appearance of accuracy.”

“A couple of years ago, in a moment of weakness, I slipped and told the truth,” Carlson, choking back tears, said. “I plead with you not to judge me by this shameful episode but by my entire body of work.”

  4. George lashed out today against fellow New York congressman Ritchie Torres, who faced some angry constituents at a recent Town Hall meeting.

    OK, but this was yesterday...

Around 25 residents visited his district office in Douglaston, Queens, and asked to speak with the congressman. The protesters were turned away by a member of his staff, who said Mr Santos was in the building but would not speak to a “mob”.

“It’s incredibly cowardly to hide behind his staff. It’s part of his job to meet with us,” Emily Raphael, who was at the protest, told The Independent.

“He’s trying to paint us as some wild-eyed protesters. You could not find a less threatening group of people if you tried,” she said, adding that it was “mostly PTA moms in attendance.”

In a 2017 interview with Canadian lifestyle and culture magazine Skyn, Luna — who at the time went by her married name, Gamberzky — described her biggest revelation in appearing before the camera:

“I’m able to take on different personalities depending on what image I am going for. I think getting into character of what you are selling is super important.”

Meh, that one's a stretch for me. She was at that time a model, being interviewed by a style magazine, talking about posing for pictures.  Getting in to character IS super important.

  6. This new batch of politicians reminds me of aspiring WWE wrestlers.  It doesn't really matter who you really are or where you came from.  Pick a persona that you think will resonate, choose heel or hero, settle in on some tag lines and one liners for the camera, and generate as much attention as you can early(good or bad).

Pathological lying lacks classification per the DSM‐5 or the ICD‐10. The DSM‐5, however, notes that deception is a symptom of antisocial personality disorder and is used as a means of external incentive (i.e., malingering) and when undertaking a sick role (i.e., factitious disorder). Lying also appears in the DSM-V as a symptom or diagnostic criteria in narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, conduct disorder, gambling disorder, and oppositional disorder.

I cant muster any sympathy for anyone stupid enough and/or morally bankrupt enough to apply for work on this fuckstick's staff. In fact, that subset of people are probably Santos wannabes at this point.

I'm mostly with you there. There's one possible exception though who the NYT discussed in a recent article about his office back in Long Island.

On that particular Thursday, Mr. Santos was in Washington, according to Mark Woolley, the congressman’s district director, who arrived in Douglaston shortly after his terse female colleague, and who gave The New York Times a tour of the modest workspace.

Mr. Woolley, 66, gave off the vibe of someone with options in life. A stocky man of medium build, he wore a green sweater, a blue baseball hat, work boots and round, wire-rimmed glasses. He said he spent eight years as district director for former Representative Lee Zeldin, who gave up his seat in Congress to mount a nearly successful bid for governor of New York. He said he had agreed to take the position after revelations about Mr. Santos emerged, and that he was going into it with his “eyes wide open,” as with any other job.

“You look perplexed,” Mr. Woolley said to a Times reporter. “Why are you perplexed?”

“You have to separate politics from government work, and you can,” he said later. “Because this is government work. And it’s got to get done.”

Sure, everyone on Santos' staff is going to use some version of this line.  But this dude is is retirement age, at the local office (not Washington), and has ton of experience in the position.  Hopefully through him the people of Long Island gave at least one dependable person in the district.

  9. I like this one:

This is 2019.  He had settled on his grift but hadn't fully developed his character yet- here he's just a trendy(ish) gay kid from Queens.  He also didn't really understand government speak yet, as he clumsily demanded payment from  the Democrats' "congressional, and Senators, and whatever salaries they get."
