  1. I'm not saying it is legit, I'm saying be prepared for the allegations. Black coach gets CoY and Elite Eight and isn't retained? You don't think the media talking heads won't have an absolute field day with that? I can hear Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless already.
  2. Really? Elite Eight even wouldn't cut it? Be prepared for the racism allegations if he gets CoY and EE and still doesn't get the job after all that has happened this year.
  3. You made me literally laugh out loud with that line.
  4. The million dollar question...how deep into the NCAA's does he have to go to get the job? Sweet 16? Elite Eight? How does UT justify not retaining a CotY, who helped guide the ship through some horribly turbulent waters, and got his team to the Sweet 16?
  5. Yeah, once the playoffs expanded to 12 and the Big 12 was most likely assured their champ would have a spot at the table (barring something really crazy like an unranked champion), I was no longer concerned about relegation. The TV deal calmed my remaining fears. A playoff spot and linear TV. You can recruit to that. In the end, the money and exposure is all about one thing: getting recruits and good coaches. And it should go without saying that a Big 12 school could even sell recruits and coaches on the idea that the path to the playoffs is a little less harrowing than in the SEC and BIG. I'm good with where we are. Wouldn't mind adding the 4 corner schools to help entrench the conference in this position a little further.
  6. Not even sure the Pac 12 fans will fork over the money either.
  7. No, they don't. SMU has more people at the tailgates along the Boulevard than in the stadium. When they have ranked teams come to play, the stadium is still half-empty. Last time I saw that stadium full was when Tech played there years ago.
  8. Exactly. Some of us like the distinction between college football and the NFL...what little is left. It's bad enough the schools are trying to ruin what makes college football distinct from the NFL (jumbotrons, commercials, less band playing and more canned music, etc.), let's not change some of the rules that also provide a uniqueness. With the NIL and the Transfer Portal dramatically changing the makeup of the teams from one year to the next, the distinction in the rules is all we have left of the college football that we preferred over the NFL. The only NFL thing I want the NCAA to adopt is the replay rules. That's it.
  9. They have automatic reviews for turnovers, scores, player disqualifications, and plays that start after two-minute warning and all plays during overtime. Any other review has to be a challenge from the head coach. Each team has two challenges per game, each of which requires the use of a timeout. If the challenge is ruled in the team's favor, the team gets its timeout back. A third challenge is allowed if a team wins its first two challenges. THIS is what the NCAA should be adopting post haste. The current NCAA review process is absurd and is the #1 reason the games are so damn long.
  10. I'm talking number of plays, not necessarily length. Worst thing about college football right now is the amount of time they spend reviewing plays. I would like to see college football adopt the NFL's rules for reviewing plays instead of having the replay official buzz down whenever they feel like they need to interject themselves into the game.
  11. Like Mike Leach always said, "I just don't understand why the powers-that-be think fans want less football rather than more."
  12. So if Tech beats OU on the road, and TCU and Oklahoma State at home, that should give them 2 more quad 1 wins and 2 Quad 2, bringing the total to 7. If they get at least one win in the Big 12 tournament, that should be at least Quad 2, maybe Quad 1. Wouldn't that be enough to get in at that point?
  13. I want you all to know that Bijan last night was as fine as a representative of the University of Texas as I’ve ever seen…this coming from someone who has an inherent bias against all things UT. After listening to him talk last night, and listening to others talk about him, I walked away with so much admiration for this young man and a jealousy of UT for having him be one of your student-athletes. From the charity he started while a student at UT, to his faith, to his long term plans and just simple joy for life, I was just so grateful to have that opportunity to learn so much more about him. And his grandfather, who Bijan considers his only real father and calls him dad, is just as impressive and cool. PAC 10 football official while Bijan was growing up, he was just an absolutely incredible mentor and guide for this young man to emulate. Funny story- his mom has kept everything he has ever broken around the house playing football so that if he ever made it to the nfl, he can reimburse her for all the damages. Got the second biggest laugh of the evening. Just wanted to share. What a special person. You all were truly blessed to have him be a part of your university family. I am a big fan. Now I need to go order some of his mustard.
  14. I’m currently sitting at the Doak Walker ceremony. At the head table Sark is sitting behind Bijan (multi level headtable), and Ricky Williams is sitting beside him. Earl Campbell is in the audience. Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Chris Fowler are all up there. I’m here to see Donny Anderson receive the Legend award. This is a pretty damn cool experience. Happy to see Bijan get the recognition he deserves.
  15. Yeah, I kind of get it and then I kind of don't. The modern era of collegiate athletics and the big money being thrown around really has nothing to do with academics. But I guess if the BIG is making fuck-you money, at some point the money is no longer the factor and now it is about how the BIG will be so much more academically superior to the other Power 5(4) conferences.
  16. I never realized UVA was so coveted for an athletic conference.
  17. Guess I'm kind of curious as to what types of expenses a conference would pay for instead of a school? Branding?
